I flinched exactly the same way they did.

[–]rachel_em 16 points17 points ago

Oh god every time it loops I still flinch...

[–]DeliciousKiwi 17 points18 points ago

I love the hand of God coming from out of no where.

[–]milk_b4_cereal 6 points7 points ago

I know how stupid this would normally be, but it's top gear, it was almost certainly done on purpose

[–]Tkcatch[S,!] 92 points93 points ago

[–]MonsterIt 3 points4 points ago

But where in the episode is it at?

[–]Lov-4-Outdors 6 points7 points ago

On the downloaded version I have it is at 12:40 into the episode. After they arrive in the arctic after the training, and just before they set off.

[–]jpparkenbone 4 points5 points ago

Wait just a moment. So if I understand this correctly, this is AFTER training? So they trained him but neglected to mention never to point a gun at your own face?

[–]Lymah 6 points7 points ago

He IS Captain Slow...

[–]xadz 14 points15 points ago

It was probably a scripted joke like much of the show.

[–]nitefang 2 points3 points ago

shhhh, you are ruining the fake reality I built where these people just naturally come up with hilarious things to say and everything on the show is real.

[–]thatbigguynamedjosh 0 points1 point ago

These people are pretty brilliant. If read some the stuff that each one has written and it's pretty good to say the least. They usually have a pretty big spread on the Top gear magazine as well. No amount of tv is "real". Literally cause real is boring.

[–]PhoneDojo 3 points4 points ago

Just watch this instead.

[–]benstillerfaggot69x -2 points-1 points ago

Nowhere, there's nowhere to be found. Which is kind of weird.

[–]yezplz 3 points4 points ago

This is what i came here for, why am i at the bottom of the comments.

[–]GoodguyGerg 1 point2 points ago

The Clip

*It has another language talking over but its the only one i could find

[–]maskote11 0 points1 point ago

Thank you kind Sir!!

[–]lockstock_teardrops 1 point2 points ago

You do know about r/TopGear, I hope?

[–]SerDelta 25 points26 points ago

Jesus this is like rule #1. Only point the barrel at something you are willing to destroy.

[–]jbredditor 48 points49 points ago

That's rule #2. Rule #1 is "Every gun is a loaded gun."

[–]K1dn3yPunch 19 points20 points ago

In that case, I never need to buy ammo!

[–]birdnerd 4 points5 points ago

Then I don't need a jacket.

[–]semiqolon 8 points9 points ago

I highly value and appreciate the four rules, but if you follow them at all times it is impossible to clean or maintain your weapon.

[–]NavyDavie 11 points12 points ago

The rules help prevent "that guy" from sweeping the range when he Clint Eastwood's how many rounds he has left.

[–]semiqolon 5 points6 points ago

I hate that guy!

[–]heyheyitscaturday 194 points195 points ago

Reposting

Cake Day

How is this shit making it to the front page

[–]ACBrownie 188 points189 points ago

Cause it's funny and some people haven't seen it.

[–]BigStare 165 points166 points ago

[–]Lupinefiasco 61 points62 points ago

In the year that I've been on reddit, I have never noticed a repost. I do, however, notice the people whining about reposts, which annoys me to no end. To those people, I say this.

[–]percafluviatilis 4 points5 points ago

Clearly you are not addicted enough. I prescribe 7 hours more a day: you look like you are getting plenty of sleep.

[–]IHateTape 1 point2 points ago

Have not seen this GIF yet. Sorry everyone...

[–]Marine54 13 points14 points ago

It's the cakeday shit that bothers me..

Nobody cares.

[–]ViridamAmici 4 points5 points ago

I care...

[–]FartsFTW 3 points4 points ago

If ViridamAmici cares then so do I!

[–]jdr393 1 point2 points ago

If fartsftw cares. Well, I'm not sure.

[–]FreeToEvolve 1 point2 points ago

Reddit is made by its users. If the users want to see something again then it's there again. If a lot of people haven't seen it before, then it makes it back to the front page. If people want an excuse to post something because they are Internet shy, then they are gonna wait to post on their cake day and play it super safe with their favorite gif to avoid that bastard blue arrow because downvotes hurt in the feels. It doesn't cater to the 10 hour a day redditor with posts of only OC. It doesn't cater to the poster who checks it twice a week with all nice comments. Reddit is the culmination of millions of brains in time wasting mode. The reason it doesn't cater to any individual because it can't have an individual preference. It's a mental organism built on all of us that can sustain thousands of opinions and preferences all at once and even focus them individually into more concrete ideas. That's why I love the Internet. Our minds are to it, as our cells are to us. : ) [4]

[–]twenty-four -5 points-4 points ago

tl;dr

[–]Alymae -1 points0 points ago

I seen these already! How dare you post them again!!!

[–]LunaPicker -4 points-3 points ago

I want to upvote you for the first one. But i also want to downvote you for the second one... What a dilemma..

[–]therobotjeff -1 points0 points ago

Just like everything else in your life, you don't know what you want to do and you're going nowhere. Oh it's Mom by the way, call me back love you.

[–]SalZoRz 12 points13 points ago

This is exactly correct.

[–]BunnyPoppit -1 points0 points ago

I concur.

[–]mcape6 1 point2 points ago

because he admited what he did wrong.

[–]Mike1994 6 points7 points ago

You must be new here...

[–]White_Luigi 0 points1 point ago

I thought he was saying that reposting your favorite gif on your cakeday is like pointing a loaded gun at your face.

[–]neomatrix248 4 points5 points ago

What is the context of this? Sometimes it's perfectly ok to look down the barrel, like when cleaning a gun. I've looked down the barrel of my M4 plenty of times after taking it apart.

[–]WilliamHealy 0 points1 point ago

it was after training. Its from Top Gear: Polar Special

[–]semiqolon 28 points29 points ago

If you yourself verify that the weapon is not loaded first, this is the proper way to check barrel rifling and ensure there is no foreign material present.

[–]isofat 79 points80 points ago

Actually most guns allow you to check from the other end. Not only that, but it is generally a good rule to just keep the gun from pointing at things you do not want to shoot. All it takes is for your brain to fuck up once and forget to check that the gun is unloaded first and you can shoot your head off.

[–]asshatnowhere 37 points38 points ago

imagine a gun is a water hose that is always constantly shooting out water and you don't want you nor anyone else to get wet.

[–]Pixelnator 18 points19 points ago

Aka. "Laser rule".

[–]jawillde 15 points16 points ago

[–]semiqolon 13 points14 points ago

I generally prefer to render the firearm mechanically unable to fire first (by removing the firing pin or something along those lines), but sometimes it's just easier to get a good view of the barrel by looking through the muzzle end. It's good to follow the rule of never pointing the gun at something you don't want to destroy, but breaking this rule for things like maintenance does not automatically make you a bad/dangerous gun owner.

e: basically my point is that guns should be respected, not feared

[–]CountDunkula 12 points13 points ago

I respect my guns by never pointing them at my face.

[–]dead_reckoner 3 points4 points ago

Like he said, if you yourself verify that the weapon is not loaded, you can do whatever the hell you want with it.

I respect my guns by never pointing them at my face.

Even when it's essential for maintenance? How come whenever a gun-related post is made on reddit, everyone is suddenly a gun expert?

[–]DYKTMM 5 points6 points ago

How come whenever a gun-related post is made on reddit, everyone is suddenly a gun expert?

Because people who know about guns are going to check out a gun related post?

"Why are all these stoners on /r/trees?!"

[–]Nocturnhabeo 3 points4 points ago

You sir are an internet detective.

[–]CountDunkula 2 points3 points ago

I didn't say he couldn't do what he wanted. Personally I'd rather just pull the firing ping. If you don't want to you don't have to, but considering there are probably a ton of people reading this that have no respect for for what a gun can do and have never handled one I figured I'd throw that out there. Yes, if you aren't an idiot you can you do whatever you want with it after making sure it's not loaded. However, there are a lot of idiots that don't realize they're an idiot until they shoot themselves or someone else so I don't think emphasizing caution when we have no clue who the audience reading this will be is a bad thing.

[–]semiqolon 6 points7 points ago

And I respect your right to make that decision for yourself, as I hope you respect mine to do the same.

[–]Dayman1 8 points9 points ago

Everyone is very respectful. This can't be the internet.

[–]SadlyIamJustaHead -2 points-1 points ago

As I value your opinion and don't wish to infringe on your previously held views I would like to respectfully add:

"fuck you, that's a stupid opinion."

[–]semiqolon 0 points1 point ago

We are being the change we want to see!

[–]jbredditor 6 points7 points ago

Not entirely up on your four rules, are you?

[–]semiqolon 4 points5 points ago

The four rules are absolutely essential for developing a strong sense of respect for firearms and keeping yourself and those around you safe. I would never do this at a range or any other time I am shooting. However, this kind of fanatic devotion to the four rules inspires fear of firearms, not respect of firearms.

[–]jbredditor 0 points1 point ago

Makes sense.

That said, if you're checking for barrel rifling on a shotgun you've got a whole slew of other problems...

[–]semiqolon 2 points3 points ago

I am not familiar with that particular shotgun, but it is not outside the realm of possibility for a shotgun to have a rifled barrel.

[–]Drainbownick 0 points1 point ago

dodge, duck, dive and dodge?

[–]DildoDave 0 points1 point ago

You forgot dip.

[–]swrrga 0 points1 point ago

gas, brake, dip

[–]workpuppy 0 points1 point ago

For all those rifled shotguns out there.

[–]workpuppy -1 points0 points ago

Uncommon as hell. For the discerning hunter who wants to buy a special gun to shoot solid bullets, but not a rifle.

[–]Redlyr 2 points3 points ago

They are actually very, very common. Many localities do not allow rifles for hunting as the round can travel too far should the hunter miss.

Rifled slug barrels and shotguns are often the preferred choice as they are extremely accurate out to their max range of 125 yards or so.

[–]semiqolon 0 points1 point ago

I'll grant you that!

[–]Saasaan 2 points3 points ago

You can't look at it from the other end?

[–]BBEnterprises 5 points6 points ago

On some guns you can, but on many it's impossible.

[–]wildey 0 points1 point ago

That's a shotgun he pointed at himself, which means rifling conditions in the barrel are either nonexistent or not worth checking like that. Shotgun barrels are ridiculously easy to remove as well. Even without looking down the barrel, you can shine a flashlight into it from the muzzle and check the light coming up from the chamber. This will let you know if there is a blockage. Alternatively, with a large bore weapon, you can drop something down the action like a .22 casing or dime.

[–]semiqolon 0 points1 point ago

Everything you said is absolutely correct (except shotguns not having rifled barrels), but you can also check the barrel by doing what the guy in the gif did, provided you emptied the magazine and cleared the chamber.

[–]Xuuxij -3 points-2 points ago

This is one of the directives in ensuring the firearm is safe before handing it off... If that's what he's doing, then he's doing it properly.

[–]mytake 0 points1 point ago

Apparently nobody with him agrees that it's safe and proper.

[–]Cromiell -1 points0 points ago

I don't care whether or not it's loaded. It's generally not safe to point a gun at yourself or anyone else. I don't care whether or not it's illogical.

[–]semiqolon 0 points1 point ago

I would never do this around people who are not comfortable with firearms, so the posted gif is a pretty bad example of when it's acceptable to look down the muzzle of a gun. At least he pointed it at himself only and not anybody else!

[–]mytake 1 point2 points ago

Almost everyone who shoots themselves (and we keep hearing these stories) thought their gun was unable to fire. People apparently often are wrong about having unloaded their gun or put the safety on or not pulled the trigger. Not pointing it at something you don't want to shoot basic safety and common sense.

[–]nihilite 3 points4 points ago

Why do you enjoy this?

[–]MxDaleth 9 points10 points ago

I think it's probably the reactions from Clarkson and Hammond that OP finds funny.

[–]Z3roH3ro88 10 points11 points ago

am I the only one to yell "NOOOOO!" at the computer screen??

[–]Legit_GFX 0 points1 point ago

I am sorry your other reply got deleted. I will try to give you a better reply. Hello. How are you?

[–]gnomemania 2 points3 points ago

I love James May. When he drives the police car is probably one of my favorite things on TV ever.

[–]OMGLX 0 points1 point ago

Humorous, but I still don't know if anything can trump the Reliant Robin. I nearly died that episode.

(I know it's not a May segment, but still!)

[–]gnomemania 1 point2 points ago

Oh my gosh. I don't know why I hadn't seen this before. You made my Saturday!

[–]angelsklutch 2 points3 points ago

I fuckin' love Top Gear.

[–]MO_owl 1 point2 points ago

The longer i look at it the better it gets. That facial expressions.

[–]gnovos 0 points1 point ago

It's dangerous to look down the barrel, but it's also quite dangerous to jerk a weapon away from someone's hand, especially when it's pointed in such a dangerous direction.

[–]PlayMyDoh 0 points1 point ago

I feel kind of stupid, but why exactly is this upsetting?

[–]I_FISTED_MY_GRANDMA 1 point2 points ago

See, i thought someone edited in the gun as his dick. As in, from a guy not seeing this before, i thought he whipped his dick out. Try watching it as if he did, makes sense. Except for the guy going to grab it...

[–]Redlyr 0 points1 point ago

He was actually doing that correctly.

Open the action and clear any cartridges. He placed his finger in the chamber to make sure there are no cartridges. Then he viewed the bore to be sure there are no obstructions.

[–]Randomlooksee -1 points0 points ago

Maybe I don't understand, but I simply don't like. Ick.

[–]nymphaea_caerulea 0 points1 point ago

It's the Top Gear guys. You kind of have to know their personalities.

[–]DropkickMorgan 0 points1 point ago

You are a grade A bellend

[–]raffytraffy -2 points-1 points ago

That's funny - I am hitting my favorite downvote button for you cake day.

[–]malicestar 1 point2 points ago

Moments like this in Top Gear are exactly why it's better than the US version. I try to like the US version, but it's too scripted. The "characters" are written to have moments like this, and it fails.

Just look at Hammond's and Jeremy's faces. That's a legit reaction. Sadly Tanner, Rut and Adam don't have this chemistry.

[–]mjln -2 points-1 points ago

Happy cakeday, man!

[–]Androidify21 -1 points0 points ago

Happy Cakeday, mjln!

[–]Rambit -2 points-1 points ago

Shotgun boner

[–]ecancil 0 points1 point ago

Oh great another ridiculous post about trigger discipline ensues

[–]Gaeius -2 points-1 points ago

Not sure if GIF is favourite GIF reposted for Cake Day, or to show what happens when someone reposts their favourite GIF for Cake Day...

[–]kittykatvicious[!] -2 points-1 points ago

Dammit, today is my cake day and that is my favorite GIF!
