Beware of trading scammers!

A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports).

"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

Submission Rules

Is your post not showing up? Do not delete it. Wait 5 minutes to give AutoModerator a chance to look at it; it approves most submissions automatically. If it hasn't shown up after more than 5 minutes, simply message the moderators and ask us to let it through.

Apparently all the maps in Pic are off scale and not right

[–]PaigeTheGreat -1 points0 points ago

Why do you say that? The estimate of LotRO does seem a tad high.

[–]doctorcrass 3 points4 points ago

because this gets posted every week and it is re-proven to be completely wrong every week.

Not really you have all of Eregion, Moria, soon Rohan, Isengard, Its pretty big man IMO

[–]Ohilevoe 0 points1 point ago

Considering that Middle Earth is supposed to be EUROPE, I don't think it's too far a stretch, if the Shire is supposed to be southern England, Mirkwood is central/western Europe, and Mordor is somewhere nearish Turkey.

They are. They only count one map from Farcry 2 which had 2 maps of the same size.

[–]DitDer 0 points1 point ago

Oh I see what they did there. Full map is ~10 x 5 sq. km, or about 19 sq. mi. Herp.

How could a game like Daggerfall possibly have a map that big? I understand it is not near the graphics of today, but that seems like a lot for an older game.

[–]ThereIsAThingForThat 2 points3 points ago

Because 90% of that game was randomly generated iirc.

[–]DitDer 0 points1 point ago

Yep...a whole lotta randomly generated generic terrain.

[–]Waffleman20000 0 points1 point ago

What about daggerfall?

[–]aik3n 0 points1 point ago

its on the right bar

[–]xandan 0 points1 point ago

When technology can handle it they should remake daggerfall.

[–]DitDer 0 points1 point ago

So the largest non-random single-player game is...Fuel?

[–]Pickledsoul 0 points1 point ago

so how big was the great sea in WW?

[–]boley 0 points1 point ago

It has already been made clear that this is a repost, which I don't care about, it is really neat. But honestly there are many flaws in this. For starters some of those games have had massive updates that have made their size quite larger - Aka, World of Warcraft has had 4 expansions now, and 3 of them have added new areas that made the game HUGE, and I am sure other games have had new stuff added.

so are you trying to tell me that the width(east to west) of each island in GTA3 is the same size as the ships in Burnout Paradise. Stupid argument I know, but something seems off. Might help if you realize that not all of these games let you roam around in the 'filler' areas. Wow for one, doesnt let you fly across the ocean, but Just cause 2 does. Oblivion seems to actually fill only about half of the map. San Andreas, Far Cry 2, and Just Cause 2 seem like the only ones that are actually accurate. I could be way off too. And I've never play Daggerfall, can it really be 248 miles wide? Even with a car going 60MPH, thats still a 4 hour drive, let alone walking to the other side.

Sorry, its 1 am here, so ignore the rant.

[–]jigsaw9471 0 points1 point ago

arma 2 is pretty big

[–]VerneAsimov -2 points-1 points ago

If this is true (and it's supposedly not), I could walk across Cyrodiil in two hours.

[–]aik3n 0 points1 point ago

you should be able to, cyrodil is not big at all. i believe morrowind is actually bigger. and of course, daggerfall is bigger than those.

[–]DitDer 0 points1 point ago

Two hours in-game? I doubt it, that's like 4 minutes. If you mean, "If it were a real place and I were really there," then I think we'd have to reference the lore for "actual" area, which I'm guessing is significantly greater.
