He started by taking classes in college because he retired from teaching. He took a behavioral class or philosophy class or something, anyway they had a project about environmental behavior. The question was, "Can someone change their behavior if their environment is changed?" Feeney argued yes but was proven wrong when he acted like a teacher and shushed his own professor. He then realized his argument was wrong and he decided to teach again at the college level, thus becoming one of Corey's professors.

I do not know if this was intentional by the creators of the show, but I was reading some comments in another posting that proposed this idea (If it wasn't blanant enough, this was not my idea, I would credit if I remembered who said it) That the show was always through the eyes of Corey, so when he was young, he always saw Eric as being the "cool," although slightly jerky (what big brother isn't?) big brother. But as Corey got older he started seeing his brother as he truely was all long, girl crazy and a bit slow. Although I do believe Plays with Squirrels was a bit full retard, even if it was one of my favorite messages.

Actually, Eric never changed, he was always the same. The thing that did change was Cory's understanding of him. First he looked up to his big brother thinking that he was all cool and adult like. As Cory aged and matured he realized how immature Eric was and this played out on the show.
