This is a photo by Naoya Hatakeyama. The photo is real, it's a housing showcase in an old stadium.

[–]the_red_scimitar 1188 points1189 points ago

Whew, I thought it was an iOS 6 mapping bug.

[–]Pandaburn 174 points175 points ago

Is it free to go and watch people live?

[–]amazingessessjay 42 points43 points ago

As long as they don't shoot themselves.

[–]phone_guy 21 points22 points ago

Somewhat soon

[–]Skee_Ball_Hero 24 points25 points ago

Geddoffit. Geddoffit. Geddoffit. Geddoffit. GEDDOFFIT. GET OFF IT.

[–]Original_teeg 2 points3 points ago

I like to think of Sheppard Smith saying this in bed.

[–]monkette 0 points1 point ago

Shep is gay but that's ok.

[–]Original_teeg 0 points1 point ago

Still not impossible.

[–]demos74dx 5 points6 points ago

blammo

[–]TheOneTonWanton 6 points7 points ago

Does Bing even "bing" when you search?

[–]SugarPlatypus 11 points12 points ago

No. And the search results pages looks a lot more like google's now, too.

[–]xXSushiSanXx 3 points4 points ago

[–]pilvy 8 points9 points ago

[–]SugarPlatypus 4 points5 points ago

The first results here with bing...lol

[–]pilvy 0 points1 point ago

Roadhouse!

[–]autobots 1 point2 points ago

You know, I have found google to be really great at finding things when you don't know the name and just type in a small detail.

[–]UrbanDryad 0 points1 point ago

Google won for me.

[–]UrbanDryad 3 points4 points ago

Know why? They have a hired a consulting company to improve their search results. Thousands of people are paid to test queries put into Bing and rate them for accuracy.

One of the steps in this rating process involves doing a side search that shows you the results from...you guessed it, Google.

((I went through the training process but didn't actually end up getting the job. So, fuck their NDA.))

[–]hilarioussagittarius 1 point2 points ago

The image search sure doesn't. It's terrible.

[–]WhitePootieTang 0 points1 point ago

What you don't believe me? Bing it!

[–]CheapSheepChipShip 3 points4 points ago

Apple Maps on Bing. . . best combo ever.

[–]padmadfan 4 points5 points ago

It makes me hungry for some reason.

[–]Your_Post_Is_Metal 12 points13 points ago

Not shitty enough.

[–]kevkevmacattack 2 points3 points ago

well played

[–]HansGrub3r 2 points3 points ago

Instead of fixing the program, they're going to fix the world to match their maps. Then they just say they'll come out and claim that it's Google Maps which is inaccurate, and thus why they dropped it!

[–]nightrida 1 point2 points ago

I thought it was a huge reality TV show.

[–]osakaichbanya 52 points53 points ago

THIS is what the site looks like now.

[–]snappiness[S] 17 points18 points ago

Wow...it doesn't look any less surreal.

[–]PeanutButterChicken 6 points7 points ago

I walk by that mall every few days... it's so normal to me now that I always get confused when I see redditors in awe by it.

[–]meangrampa 7 points8 points ago

It's the intricacy of it. The volume of steels and concrete that it took to make must have been huge. The plantings do help blend it to the surroundings, so it's not all just concrete and steel. it's a very unique and intricate design. Usually I find many modern buildings to be cold stark and foreboding. But not this one, I find it quite beautiful for a modern building.

[–]BillTheCommunistCat 4 points5 points ago

As a landscape architect I am very envious of the people that created this design. It manages to be incredibly modern while not have that tacky futuristic look.

When someone looks a a city from afar, whether subconsciously or not, they see various levels and depths which are usually very cubic.

The designer escaped the regular, sometimes boring, yet very practical use of cubic designs in cities. They did all of this while still tieing it into the identity of the surrounding city.

TL;DR - This place is fuckin awesome

[–]osakaichbanya 1 point2 points ago

It looks cool, but the canyon inspired design creates a wind tunnel. In the summer it's OK, it cools you off, but in the winter it's brutally cold. I personally think this is a huge design flaw. The wind can be so strong at times that I've seen people struggling to walk against it. I've also seen shopping bags blown out of people's hands as the exit the stores.

[–]kebukai 0 points1 point ago

seems as if they confused the construction plans with a paper table sheet full of coffe stains and they said "yeah, I can do this even with my eyes closed.

but yeah, pretty awesome

[–]arsenale 1 point2 points ago

"Namba Parks is an office and shopping complex located in the Namba district, Osaka, Japan."

http://www.akademifantasia.org/east-asia/amazing-eco-design-of-namba-park-in-osaka/

[–]street567 1 point2 points ago

Wow. How expensive is it to live there?

[–]dredawg 12 points13 points ago

Thanks for the context.

[–]nathism 3 points4 points ago

I was kinda hoping it was some crazy Japanese reality show, along the same vein as the Truman Show.

[–]danrennt98 5 points6 points ago

It's like having a little version of suburbia inside the city.

[–]moufestaphio 2 points3 points ago

I live right near where that WAS (been gone for a long time) , it's a cool shopping mall now(namba parks) . Also there's a building shaped like a PS3. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parks_Tower_(Namba_Parks)

[–]bilboballbagins77 2 points3 points ago

Good morning, and in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!

[–]Apk07 6 points7 points ago

2nd link is NSFW

[–]wazoheat 4 points5 points ago

Sometimes. I got naked ladies in the top banner, but it seems to change to a few different things when you refresh.

[–]pilvy 0 points1 point ago

Refreshed multiple times and only got motorbikes :(

[–]RizzoFromDigg 11 points12 points ago

If you work in a prude factory.

[–]hotairballoons 7 points8 points ago

I knew it. I knew prude factories weren't a myth.

[–]kormavibes 2 points3 points ago

What is this? A factory for prudes?

[–]Bipolarruledout 1 point2 points ago

Where do you think Romney gets his underwear ?

[–]seriously_joking 0 points1 point ago

From the Mormon church, but we're not supposed to talk about it.

[–]thefugue 1 point2 points ago

I thought it was a professional stickball stadium.

[–]EVJeevy -1 points0 points ago

The floating "football pitch" is even cooler.

[–]troubleshot 0 points1 point ago

I was going to guess 'Movie set'. Close.

[–]jimlandau 83 points84 points ago

I love this. I would live there.

[–]FakeWings 117 points118 points ago

And I would sit in the stands and watch you through your windows while eating popcorn...

[–]jakemyers7 58 points59 points ago

prepare for endless hours of masturbation ಠ_ಠ

[–]jimlandau 8 points9 points ago

and I would be the star of Ed TV

[–]Osnarf 4 points5 points ago

And stolen forks.

[–]Highest_Cactus 0 points1 point ago

you too

[–]SaMoSetter 2 points3 points ago

Naw, you'd probably get stuck in the concession line and just miss the 'home run'

[–]shoziku 0 points1 point ago

You'd have a home run every night after work.

[–]Jduga 28 points29 points ago

This would be incredible.

[–]Moe-Name 3 points4 points ago

Would?

[–]dd_123 3 points4 points ago

Be?

[–]Skaft 2 points3 points ago

Incredible?

[–]suppernjonn 3 points4 points ago

This?

[–]Jduga 0 points1 point ago

yes. would

[–]IndyDude11 62 points63 points ago

Bush Stadium, old home of the AAA Indianapolis Indians, is being redeveloped into an apartment complex. The old bleachers now are apartments, with a second apartment building added in the old outfield.

Rendering:

http://www.coreredevelopment.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Bush-Stadium.jpg

[–]mountainfail 17 points18 points ago

That's actually kinda cool

[–]collidge 11 points12 points ago

Arsenal FC in London did something similar with their old ground, Highbury http://www.highburysquare.com/index.html

[–]Quaternions 4 points5 points ago

I bet those cost a pretty penny.

[–]ElRed_ 2 points3 points ago

Pretty cheap to begin with. Something like 90k. Decent part of London. It will always be a well maintained site. I guess for 90k the downside is that the flats aren't really that big. I thought about investing and then remembered I'm poor.

[–]Quaternions 0 points1 point ago

Haha, I'm with you there. Oh, and the fact that I'm married with 4 kids is another reason.

I doubt any one of those apartments would be big enough for me. Oh, and the fact that I would hate living in a city like London. Ipswich is on the larger side of my taste.

[–]Generalhjort 0 points1 point ago

Are you married with 4 kids? That's sick dude.

[–]Quaternions 0 points1 point ago

Yup, will be 18 years this December. :)

[–]colinodell 0 points1 point ago

Nope, just a few ugly ones

[–]pagodapagoda 3 points4 points ago

Whaaaaa...

I live in Indy and I've never even heard of this. How far along is the project? Is anybody living there already?

[–]IndyDude11 1 point2 points ago

I believe they are almost complete with the construction of the outside of the main building. Not sure when it, or Building #2, actually opens, though.

[–]thisfaggotcatfish 2 points3 points ago

Can you play baseball on the field still?

[–]IndyDude11 2 points3 points ago

Yep. I mean, you can't right now because of all the construction, but if you live there when it opens, the baseball field will be there as a common area feature.

[–]TChuff 2 points3 points ago

I think a lot of windows will need replacing over the next several years.

[–]IndyDude11 1 point2 points ago

Hopefully they are made out of plexiglass, or something. :)

[–]-TinMan- 28 points29 points ago

I suppose this is the neighborhood you would want to live in during a zombie apocalypse.

[–]sir_zechs 12 points13 points ago

I thought about that too when l saw it, although its location right in the middle of a city has its obvious downfalls, also if it has entrances big enough for cars, zombies won't have a problem getting in. But l guess like any castle-turned-tourist attraction in Europe, as long as you can fortify and defend it, it could work.

The houses look like they're close enough together to build bridges between too, so a fall back of just living on the second floors is possible.

[–]JoNightshade 3 points4 points ago

There's actually a zombie book where they do this - Warm Bodies. I didn't personally care for it but it was very highly reviewed. :)

[–]sir_zechs 2 points3 points ago

Nice, although reading World War Z was enough to get me sleeping with the lights on everynight, l hate myself, so I'll probably pick that one up sometime, although l hear the movie will be terrible.

[–]JoNightshade 1 point2 points ago

Warm Bodies isn't scary. It's a zombie remix of Romeo and Juliet. Started out cool, went downhill at the end. Totally cannot see it working as a movie though. Ew.

[–]THE_APE_SHIT_KILLER 0 points1 point ago

Long term survivability is something most people don't think about. If there was a way to dig up that parking lot you could grow food in the stadium. In a castle, once you are out of food you are fucked, trapped in a tight enclosed space.

[–]snappiness[S] 103 points104 points ago

Couldn't help but think of The Truman Show.

[–]jhc1415 6 points7 points ago

Is this where Elwood got the idea to fake his address as Wrigley field in the Blues Brothers?

[–]Shinden9 3 points4 points ago

We need Jim Carrey now.

[–]rbar1 7 points8 points ago

Airsoft in there....

[–]TheRoachOn12 0 points1 point ago

[–]IRSoup 24 points25 points ago

This is pretty friggin' cool. Not /r/WTF worthy.

[–]WeldingMouse 3 points4 points ago

Looks like a well-fortified NPC village.

[–]NameIsNotImportant 2 points3 points ago

Am I the only one who thinks that it's fucking awesome?

[–]Tundrun 7 points8 points ago

Can't tell if Apple maps or weird architecture.

[–]AerialBreakfast 8 points9 points ago

why is this in /r/wtf

[–]JohnCanada 4 points5 points ago

I agree. Should be in r/pics

[–]TropicalAmerican 6 points7 points ago

Should be in r/shutthefuckupandenjoythepicture

[–]JohnCanada 0 points1 point ago

This subreddit has lost its touch if THIS is considered wtf.

[–]TropicalAmerican 0 points1 point ago

Its hit or miss, nothing was "lost"

[–]JohnCanada 0 points1 point ago

got it. thank you for being civil. Were you in a bad mood 15 hours ago?

[–]TropicalAmerican 1 point2 points ago

Little biy

[–]JohnCanada 0 points1 point ago

Did you delete your comment because you felt bad? Did I just witness humanity on reddit? Let's hug

[–]TropicalAmerican 0 points1 point ago

ha no I didn't, I'm pretty sure I didn't. But yeah I was mad earlier

[–]senorwysocki 1 point2 points ago

i think it's because it's a sitcom in a stadium. I'm really weirded out by the stands.

(not weirded out as much like by a man eating period blood... well I don't know anymore)

[–]r1ckyh1mself 2 points3 points ago

This is sick. Imagine the zombie apocalypse happened and this was how people were living. The only safe way to live would be in artificial environments mimicking normal living to keep you somewhat sane..

[–]Karunamon 0 points1 point ago

If the zombie apocalypse ever happens, Japan is screwed. So many people in such a small space..

[–]indite 2 points3 points ago

[–]MrChittles 9 points10 points ago

i want this to be the field for a new sport were useing paintball guns a team of survivers battle the infected score based on time lasted and style lived judged by an audience vote

[–]Wompus 44 points45 points ago

it hurts to read this

[–]RageGodReed 6 points7 points ago

Dae le zombies?!?7

[–]koolaidface 1 point2 points ago

That's why I up voted it.

[–]NolanRoss 6 points7 points ago

Suburban zombie survival game? Yes please.

[–]wozawoza 0 points1 point ago

[–]spacealien69 5 points6 points ago

OH MY GOD. WTF! THIS PICTURE IS TOO MUCH FOR ME TO HANDLE!

[–]Nazoropaz 3 points4 points ago

this is in the header for cityporn

[–]explainittomeplease 5 points6 points ago

I could never live there. If I was getting intimate I'd have to keep checking to make sure people aren't sitting in the bleachers watching and cheering us on.

[–]frontseatdog 12 points13 points ago

I refer to my hands like they are other people too.

Welp, we're off to the kitchen to make a sandwich now.

[–]explainittomeplease 0 points1 point ago

Oh god!!!! I didn't even think of when I was perfecting my DJ skills!!! Although I do it under a blanket so that ghosts can't see it. Just in case.

[–]WNJohnnyM 4 points5 points ago

People in the stands could start doing the Wave.

[–]explainittomeplease 0 points1 point ago

What if they started booing? "Heeeeeey batter batter batter!!!"

[–]Coolbreezy 3 points4 points ago

Don't forget to check to make sure you turned off the stove and the iron also.

[–]explainittomeplease 0 points1 point ago

No, that's what the bleacher people are for.

[–]Belial88 1 point2 points ago

Why are people so worried about people watching when getting intimate? I never understand that. I mean obviously about families and a reasonable expectation that you can bring your kid's around aside.

[–]explainittomeplease 0 points1 point ago

Yeah... not the way I get down. Its a workout, there's hair missing at the end, and the guy always cries. It's best if no one watches.

[–]Androne 1 point2 points ago

Because houses don't have doors that close and blinds are impossible to operate...

[–]explainittomeplease 0 points1 point ago

I don't think they have blinds in japan.

[–]rollinfree 0 points1 point ago

Japanese Truman show?

[–]I_Am_Canadian_Sorry 0 points1 point ago

I would most definitely live there.

[–]DoktorNauk 1 point2 points ago

It's stadium village!

[–]snickerpleez 1 point2 points ago

paintball.

[–]crash7800 0 points1 point ago

Just curious - is the an expensive-by-comparison place to live?

[–]Havokk 0 points1 point ago

I don't fucking get it...

[–]Goeagles 1 point2 points ago

I would totally live there! That's awesome

[–]ChineseDonkeyQueef 1 point2 points ago

Reality tv?

[–]lonesome_god 1 point2 points ago

"To what end?"

"You know, it's like the baseball movie. You build it, and they will come."

"Who will come?"

"The jewish people"

.................

............................

A short while later............

Singing *They'll come, they'll settle and I will win the prize!!*

[–]Stemage 0 points1 point ago

This the new set for Battle Royale?

[–]gladstonehq 0 points1 point ago

love those movies!

[–]originul 0 points1 point ago

That on ramp in the lower left hand corner would have been a sick place to film a drifting scene for Fast and the Furious..

[–]xBlackbiird 0 points1 point ago

That's a very exclusive neighborhood.

[–]radiochild420 0 points1 point ago

Why are there cars parked on the outside, when there are plenty of open spaces inside?

[–]slimeqslimedog 0 points1 point ago

I flew a bunch of the aerial survey for apple maps. The contractors were super excited about it coming out assuring me that it would blow everyone's mind. Not so much I take it.

[–]murderbum999 1 point2 points ago

They should have turned it into a massive market- Tons of room for growth, parking, and expanding by building up the centre.

[–]mohsman 0 points1 point ago

This may be in Osaka, Japan. Our hotel room in Osaka looked down on an old stadium like this.

[–]datboi1d 0 points1 point ago

There goes the neighborhood...

[–]the_dutchmaster -1 points0 points ago

this isn't what the fuck.....

[–]mffman 1 point2 points ago

The new Sim City is looking pretty awesome!

[–]howtokillanhour 0 points1 point ago

The championship Sims finals!

[–]nalaak 0 points1 point ago

nice place for doomsday fortress

[–]luvnwar23 0 points1 point ago

The hunger games?

[–]AndyLame 0 points1 point ago

I'm thinking if the chairs would be replaced with solar panels that would make it more awesome.

[–]xanthus12 2 points3 points ago

Finally, a good use for a stadium.

[–]tychormthorp 0 points1 point ago

MUPPETS. IN. SPAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!!!

[–]sfacets 0 points1 point ago

Big Brother 2013

[–]chadathin -1 points0 points ago

This reminds me of the baseball diamond apartments that are being built in Indianapolis right now

[–]squeemc 0 points1 point ago

My son's John Deere tractor says this when you press a certain button for awhile. Creepy as hell and made me say what the fuck.

[–]chadathin 0 points1 point ago

This reminds me of the baseball diamond apartments that are being built in Indianapolis right now

[–]AnomalousX12 0 points1 point ago

This is awesome... I'd want to live there.

[–]Shirtless_Guy 1 point2 points ago

OH! I can totally imagine having arena fights or big airsoft games or tag or hide and seek in that arena! That would be so cool! With audience on the spectator rows of course!

[–]Supernaturaltwin 0 points1 point ago

Who does the upkeep to the stadium?

[–]Lore86 0 points1 point ago

A very absent minded Truman Burbank must live there

[–]CookieAndMilk 0 points1 point ago

Who will come?

[–]erikmcginnis 0 points1 point ago

the sims taken to the next level

[–]SatchelBuck 0 points1 point ago

the future of candlestick

[–]rand_a 1 point2 points ago

This would make for the best monster truck show ever.

[–]thenordicthor 0 points1 point ago

they built it... I came.

[–]TomSelleckPI 0 points1 point ago

I'm willing to bet that this is also the scene of some wacky stunt/fetish/pooping/porn/humiliation/cooking-themed game show.

[–]taisha2640 0 points1 point ago

Fuck yeah Osaka

[–]trappar 1 point2 points ago

[–]charko14 0 points1 point ago

It looks like a great stronghold for The Walking Dead

[–]astonishing1 1 point2 points ago

Orimpic Veeridge.

[–]GreenPhoenixLight 0 points1 point ago

The area looks really cool, though, I have to say.

[–]Carville90 0 points1 point ago

and never leave..

[–]Cueball61 0 points1 point ago

Honestly, I'd much rather see this as the result for the London 2012 Stadium than it being sold to the highest bidding football team.

[–]Nuclearcodes 0 points1 point ago

Great for surviving a zombie outbreak!

[–]ifeelstabby 0 points1 point ago

Being Japan the houses sink into the ground and a field slides out on game day

[–]rgeguypic 0 points1 point ago

It would make me a little nervous, thousands of people watching me cut my lawn.

[–]A747CHICK 0 points1 point ago

This is the 3rd time I've seen this pic on here.

[–]Afa1234 0 points1 point ago

It looks like a zombie setting Colosseum

[–]spiderobert 0 points1 point ago

This is where they hold their competitive burglary competitions

[–]zdealT 0 points1 point ago

Gives me a great idea on fortification during zombie apocalypse.

[–]zacher89 0 points1 point ago

To think they could have had a whole city to themselves...

[–]Smooovies 0 points1 point ago

Would I like to live in fort badass? Yes I would.

[–]Aesthete 0 points1 point ago

Made me think of baseketball.

You know. How the stadium looked like their driveway.

[–]iamsofakingwetodded 0 points1 point ago

Prototype for The Truman Show?

[–]Mr_jack13 0 points1 point ago

I would so live here.

[–]Channe1 0 points1 point ago

... And build something else.

[–]FreshAuthentic 0 points1 point ago

New LA stadium?
