Dude, this is beautiful, not wtf at all.

[–]deimosbarret 11 points12 points ago

OP pic way better than other pics i've seen :3

[–]syphon3980 2 points3 points ago

You obviously dont have Trypophobia

[–]ArgonGryphon -5 points-4 points ago

Nope. I don't think anyone does. That sounds like a bullshit phobia to me.

[–]UlisesGirl 9 points10 points ago

You son of a bitch... I clicked. I fucking clicked. Fuck.

[–]ArgonGryphon 7 points8 points ago

You're on /r/wtf and Lotus Boob is what freaks you out?

[–]UlisesGirl 0 points1 point ago

Yep. Gimme necrotizing fascitis any day, but Surinam toads? FUCK NO.

[–]ArgonGryphon 3 points4 points ago

But those are adorable...

[–]UlisesGirl 2 points3 points ago

Fucking babies hatching out of their backs! NOT RIGHT.

[–]ArgonGryphon 4 points5 points ago

But babies coming out of vaginas is better somehow? That's way more disgusting to me, and that's my own species. My own type of genitals, too.

[–]UlisesGirl 1 point2 points ago

Childbirth is a hot mess, I'll agree. But unless you're octomom, there aren't a whole bunch of them coming out all at once.
Not to mention you can see them wriggling about. Generally, you can't see human babies wriggling in the womb. Moving, yes, wriggling no.

[–]Beast_and_the_harlot -3 points-2 points ago

Is that a real thing? Or Is that pic shopped?

[–]ArgonGryphon 2 points3 points ago

Google it.

[–]NZthrowawaysis 0 points1 point ago

I think the idea is that those pictures are faked to bring out the scare in people with Trypophobia,

thats what I took from it anyway, they'd freak out if they ever had anything like that that the thought of it is just too scary for them.

[–]ArgonGryphon 5 points6 points ago

No, I think they were faked just to gross people out in general.

I'd be more concerned about fucking WORMS in my nipple than the holes.

Are there any clinical studies about this phobia? I mean, without peer review it just sounds like bullshit to me.

[–]PKfireice 4 points5 points ago

People with true Trypophobia are usually freaked out by things like honeycombs and those candy bars with bubbles in them (Just as they are, not even shooped)

[–]AnAlternativeName 1 point2 points ago

I haven't been clinically diagnosed, but I get shivers and I feel like avoiding holes in general. I get obsessive with my pores, I don't like honey combs or Shirley poppy pods (I would actively destroy both as a child after my fascination with how weird I felt looking at them was over) and fuck I got the crawlies looking at that pock-marked boobie.

I don't know if this condition exists. But I should also tell you that I have issues with people eating loudly. I forgot the condition name but a theory behind it is that your brain can't really distinguish things correctly, in the sense that smell/sound are somehow linked to the part of your brain that gets repulsed. I'm just making a link between the two disorders, I'm sorry for the lack of scientific names and links, I'm so awfully tired.

So, in short, it could be just something made up to scare the masses into buying more pills. But, I think with enough research, we could also really help the people out there who are sufferers, understand and cope with phobias. People like me, who has anxiety issues as well as avoidance issues (not sure if respectively? They go hand-in-hand almost).

[–]syphon3980 0 points1 point ago

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck why did i click that

[–]TrolLCD 0 points1 point ago

ITS A TRAP!!!

[–]violentacrez 140 points141 points ago

It's the cocoon of the Bumelia Webworm Moth (urodus parvula).

[–]violentacrez 7 points8 points ago

[–]pang0lin 12 points13 points ago

Huh, I really think the website should ask foxtrot666 if they can use his image instead.

[–]ArgonGryphon 3 points4 points ago

It's all user submitted content, so they could submit it if they wanted, assuming its his own work.

[–]Genericrelish 2 points3 points ago

I live less than an hour away from there and I've never seen this before.

[–]yabacam 6 points7 points ago

awesome cocoon, ugly plain and boring moth. (unless google images is wrong)

[–]stphni 25 points26 points ago

Do you think he gives a shit? Motherfucker built himself a badass moth hammock.

[–]donpapillon 2 points3 points ago

So that moth is a...

(•_•) , ( •_•)>⌐□-□ , (⌐□_□)

badass mothammocker.

[–]Trunks777 0 points1 point ago

Metapod is evolving!

[–]violentacrez -1 points0 points ago

Yeah, it's not very noticeable.

[–]jasontimmur 3 points4 points ago

oh so you're a fucking entomologist too, huh?

[–]shoulderdestruction 1 point2 points ago

Nice try, Buffalo Bill.

[–]NinjaStain 0 points1 point ago

It's clearly a hammock for insects, they buy them at their local barkmart

[–]jhutchi2 60 points61 points ago

This should be in /r/pics

[–]Journalisto 16 points17 points ago

I guess op tried there first and deleted it ... I checked earlier with karma decay.

[–]Hakaku 3 points4 points ago

[–]Moparman396 7 points8 points ago

This would also get some love on /r/natureporn.

[–]MrGiggleParty 9 points10 points ago

"What a strange cocoon." *poke poke poke poke

[–]Genlsis 18 points19 points ago

Crack. Crumble. "Crap"

[–]cchurchcp 12 points13 points ago

Rice Crispies' earlier, failed slogan.

[–]mansiontax 14 points15 points ago

Zero comments? What is this! It's cool.

[–]SpheresEdge 5 points6 points ago

What're you talking about? This is the Honningbrew Decanter.

[–]brb9911 3 points4 points ago

Awesome Cocoon is more like it.

[–]LimpyDan 0 points1 point ago

It's a good thing you were pointing at it. Otherwise I wouldn't know what to look at.

[–]piccini9 5 points6 points ago

Too bad you put your finger in there. I wanted it to be eight feet long. The cocoon that is, not your finger.

[–]MmIoCuKsEeY 0 points1 point ago

How do you know their finger isn't ~30ft long?

[–]Differentdog -1 points0 points ago

That is awesome.

[–]cl3ver 1 point2 points ago

Ah the majestic Cage Dancing Moth. How rare and beautiful.

[–]astonishing1 0 points1 point ago

The rare golden testicle moth?

[–]ExistentialEnso 1 point2 points ago

It almost looks like one of the mesh bags that chocolate coins come in.

[–]DonDimelo 1 point2 points ago

Don't touch it, asshole.

[–]Nunganunga 0 points1 point ago

I NEED A LIME LAPSE, NOW.

[–]fuzzyshorts 0 points1 point ago

perfect pic!

[–]sravll 0 points1 point ago

That. Is an awesome cocoon!

[–]StarcraftMethod 1 point2 points ago

your finger is pretty

[–]MasterBob52 1 point2 points ago

How is this in /r/wtf put this in /r/pics

[–]maynardftw 1 point2 points ago

Seems like the least effective cocoon protection design ever. I'm surprised this species hasn't been Darwin'd out.

[–]Cayshin 1 point2 points ago

I actually think it's pretty good. The net design allows for good structural support and prevents the cocoon from getting blown away when it's windy. Secondly, although it's hanging out in the open, the bright orange color is an almost universal symbol of "poisonous" in the animal kingdom (ex. monarch butterfly, poison dart frog, etc...); most animals will instinctively avoid eating it.

[–]musephotos 0 points1 point ago

Very cool!

[–]musephotos 0 points1 point ago

Took basket weaving classes apparently.

[–]lynxlairliar 0 points1 point ago

Loving the big ass finger in the picture. If it wasn't there I definitely would not have noticed the only object in the picture. :P

[–]Mazgelis626 0 points1 point ago

Oh my god... Two weeks ago my friend and I were discussing the legendary Spider Bee, as he called it... is this in New England?

[–]AsInOptimus 1 point2 points ago

That is beautiful.

It also reminds me of one of those hanging pod chairs from Pier 1.

[–]Crowlz22 0 points1 point ago

It looks like one of those things you get clementines in at the supermarket.

[–]talitus 0 points1 point ago

Would have taken me ages to find without that finger pointing it out.

[–]AquaShrimpp 0 points1 point ago

"Awesome cocoon" FTFY

[–]karma756231 0 points1 point ago

I found one of these today. Very minuscule cocoons.

[–]MTRsport 0 points1 point ago

Is there a time lapse video of the transformation inside this thing?!

[–]blackbright 1 point2 points ago

Looks like elven jewelcraft.

[–]fandette88 1 point2 points ago

I'm glad you pointed to it. I couldn't find where it was till I noticed the finger.

[–]nickthecreator 0 points1 point ago

[–]jedionda 1 point2 points ago

The cacoon is awesome...but your finger there leaves me unsettled. So did you touch it, or not?

[–]redditsuxdicks 0 points1 point ago

That's not a cocoon that's a fucking hammock

[–]MediocreBadGuy23 0 points1 point ago

By "strange cocoon" do you mean fucking awesome cocoon?

[–]Lulwut_ 0 points1 point ago

Ok, how is this WTF. That is beautiful.

[–]TailSpinBowler 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me of a Cane Swing

[–]SneakyNightman -1 points0 points ago

Rather beautiful if you ask me, IMO this and pics of colorful bugs that occasionally get posted don't really belong here. But to each their own!

[–]beef2134 1 point2 points ago

Not really wtf.

[–]jermzdeejd 1 point2 points ago

Nothing strange.... that is a work of art. Nature is awesome.

[–]UltimateLemon -3 points-2 points ago

Thanks for pointing it out with the finger OP, otherwise I'd have been searching for it all night

But in all seriousness, that is fucking cool.

[–]splitSeconds 4 points5 points ago

It helps with scale.

[–]musicguyguy 1 point2 points ago

Maybe he has fat fingers.

[–]chirpychirp 0 points1 point ago

Do you know what species it's from? I've got a picture of something similar from South America. I never found out what it was.

[–]vocalyzer 0 points1 point ago

It looks cool but doesn't seem like a very good protective barrier.

[–]Bandit1379 0 points1 point ago

I agree. Water, wind, small insects, etc all seem like they could pose a threat. I wonder how it works out for them so well.

[–]imherenowwhat 0 points1 point ago

[–]Draskiller 2 points3 points ago

I'm not a moth expert, but yours looks a bit different. Could there be multiple moths that do the same type of cocoon stage?

[–]violentacrez 3 points4 points ago

His moth (wockia asperipunctella) and the one OP posted (urodus parvula) are both in the Urodidae family.

[–]Draskiller 1 point2 points ago

Thank ya acrez.

[–]imherenowwhat 0 points1 point ago

You're right, it is different but it is similar.

[–]southernbelladonna 0 points1 point ago

That's sort of beautiful.

[–]asdfghjkl92 0 points1 point ago

wait, is this the whole cocoon? so could you watch the caterpillar metamophasise (sp?)?

[–]MT_Flesch 0 points1 point ago

doesn't IKEA sell those?

[–]cyberslick188 -2 points-1 points ago

Is that a built in toilet?

[–]TechTwista 0 points1 point ago

It's a cocunt.

[–]ElectroFlasherFilms -1 points0 points ago

You went too far, OP. /r/mildlyinteresting was a few lights back.
