that dog is more useful that all three of my children combined.

[–]Huitzilopostlian 45 points46 points ago

Plus, would you trust them with your debit card and nip??

[–]thehateisstrong 14 points15 points ago

nip?

[–]do0b 33 points34 points ago

OP is probably french.

NIP is PIN in french: Numero identification personnel.

[–]define_44696f6e 27 points28 points ago

Ha! A french guy. Let's beat the shit out of him! :D rofl

[–]Huitzilopostlian 11 points12 points ago

Hahahaha!!! right! sorry, in spanish is called NIP (Numero de Identificacion Personal), not PIN (Personal Identification Number) Sorry..

[–]thehateisstrong 3 points4 points ago

No problemo, thank you for the clarification.

[–]poobly 11 points12 points ago

Racial slur directed at the Japanese around the time of WWII.

[–]thehateisstrong 1 point2 points ago

From Nippon the name for Japan in Jappanese, I assume? Thank you for the response but I fail to see how it applies to the service dog post. Am I missing something?

[–]slothenstein 7 points8 points ago

They clearly typed the word pin backwards by accident.

[–]Ceefax81[!] 5 points6 points ago

That means he's being mugged, send help!

[–]gleenglass 22 points23 points ago

I wish I had a laundry dog. I only have puke on the carpet dogs.

[–]SwinginCrabWhacka 181 points182 points ago

The dog isn't unhappy, actually. Dogs love physical activity. It's also therapeutic for the patient they're assigned to. We got a very well trained female boxer for my brother. She alerts us when he's in trouble, brings him toys to play with, and we have a contraption that he sits on which she spins him in circles with. They both love it. It tires them both out. Also he's learned how to pet her without being harsh. His doctor told us that's it's a very natural way to lower his chances of seizures because it causes the body to remain calm.

You don't get a dog to not do anything. Domesticated dogs were meant to be companions to humans. And that's what they love doing. If you think they're meant to run free in the world, I'm afraid you're thinking of their ancestors, the wolves.

Now get out of here with "OMGZ THIS ANIMAL IS ABUSEDDDDD."

[–]ItsPronouncedTAYpas 58 points59 points ago

You're very right. Dogs, especially certain breeds, LOVE having a job, a purpose, etc. This is definitely not abuse.

[–]Aleriya 31 points32 points ago

Agreed. Anyone that's had a working dog breed knows how much they love hunting, or agility training, or herding, or whatever else sort of "work" they do. They get very bored and antsy if they don't have a job to do, and they like to be active.

[–]ItsPronouncedTAYpas 17 points18 points ago

My Springer Spaniel NEEDS to be doing something or he gets very antsy. He is 12 years old and still wants to run around like a crazy-man and hunt whatever is available, though its usually non-living things like nuts falling from trees. If I could train him to use the ATM and whatnot, he would be happy as hell.

[–]johnjamesjacoby 8 points9 points ago

There's a really good book called “A Dog's Purpose” that's all about this. Hit me in the feels a few times.

[–]indecisivecat 3 points4 points ago

And if you don't give a working dog a "job", they start cooking up their own ideas, like digging up the yard, or sorting the contents of the trash can all over the kitchen, or redecorating the couch with some attractive bite marks.

[–]CaptainVulva 4 points5 points ago

TIL I am a dog

[–]Teaburner 23 points24 points ago

SO true. Actually, to have a working breed and never give them something to do is cruel.

[–]slithymonster 10 points11 points ago

Who thinks this is abuse? It's clearly a service dog. They're trained for this sort of thing.

[–]SwinginCrabWhacka 10 points11 points ago

Some of the commenters said its abuse and dogs aren't meant for that. Saying the woman in the wheelchair is "lazy".

[–]minibouchees 4 points5 points ago

NOT to mention he is paid a huge wage in some of that unconditional love that he gives to her, too.

They are both extremely lucky to have each other in their lives.

[–]namegoeswhere 7 points8 points ago

I have yet to scroll down to see those kinds of comments, but one must be pretty ignorant to think that this dog, or any other service animal, is abused.

[–]SwinginCrabWhacka 2 points3 points ago

I saw a few saying its abuse and all that.

[–]Smilemon 93 points94 points ago

... I'll repost my own comment before someone else does again.

My aunt had a service dog named M.D., and he could do all of these things, plus a few. If you showed him an object, he would remember it, and could retrieve it for you. There was a rag on the fridge door, so he could open the fridge and grab food for my aunt, but my uncle, being the joker that he is, decided to teach M.D. how to fetch beer so he didn't have to get up from the couch.

M.D. seemed to grasp the concept, and could recognize the can, but when my uncle put him to the test later that night, M.D. left and never returned. After about 10 minutes, my uncle decided that something must be wrong, and went to check up on him. M.D. had grabbed a beer from the fridge, but his teeth had lightly punctured the can and he had dropped it. Confused, he had tried again, and again, and again. There were punctured cans of beer all over the kitchen floor, and one very distraught dog in the middle of it all.

I think the thing I loved most about that dog is how he would play fetch. My aunt would tell him to sit, then drive her wheelchair a few hundred feet, and drop a tennis ball. When she yelled fetch, he would run over, pick up the ball, and put it in her lap. A game of fetch might last 30 minutes, with only a few "throws," but M.D. never seemed to mind.

He was the smartest dog I ever met. He, and the person who trained him, are heroes in my mind.

[–]what_no_wtf 16 points17 points ago

and one very distraught dog in the middle of it all.

You made me laugh. Loud. And Long.

Thank you.

[–]mrbooze 10 points11 points ago

Friend of a friend trained their dog to fetch beer also, but he had the forethought to slip all the beer cans into foam sleeve things when putting them in the fridge just for this reason.

[–]jadeycakes 3 points4 points ago

I'm not saying that's not an awesome game, but why couldn't she just stay in the same spot and throw the ball for him to bring back? That's what I do with my lab.

[–]tellevee 16 points17 points ago

It doesn't sound like his/her aunt had use of her arms.

[–]NyranK 3 points4 points ago

Assuming she could throw.

Ohh...I know. Strap an air cannon to her chair!

[–]hyperforce 3 points4 points ago

You had me at air cannon.

[–]dcfcblues 2 points3 points ago

It was a service dog for his aunt, therefore his aunt likely had some form of paralysis preventing her from being able to throw a ball.

[–]queefsteak 2 points3 points ago

Perhaps she didn't have the physical ability to throw the ball, only to drop it.

[–]yoursmartfriend 44 points45 points ago

My dog is so fucking lazy.

[–]grumpyswife 17 points18 points ago

lol, mine, too. Ball? Frisbee? Squirrel? "Don't care. I'll be laying down over here...lemme know when it's dinnertime."

[–]MoreHope 27 points28 points ago

And then we learn that the dog also posted this to reddit...

[–]TerryArchi 30 points31 points ago

Not a cat

You seem to be right. That indeed isn't a cat.

[–]JacobCurry 7 points8 points ago

I think people are under the impression that it is against the rules to post anything but cats.

[–]trmns 52 points53 points ago

A friend of mine has a service dog like this, the dog and I are very good friends, here is us, together: http://i.imgur.com/0EWkP.jpg

I am very happy that this dog is my friend.

[–]blod09 3 points4 points ago

What's written on your shirt? I can't read it and it's bugging me :(

[–]knuticus 13 points14 points ago

I think it is "Die apokalytischen Reiter" a german metal band

[–]Hucken_Fard 5 points6 points ago

I think it's "Die Apostolate" yeah... seems about right.

[–]Bumblebree 37 points38 points ago

Quick thing from a daughter of a man with a service dog:

Please never pet, feed, or make "come here" noises to service dogs. They are working and, while they're having fun and are incredibly smart, are still dogs. What goes in must come out and service dogs cannot clean up their own poop. They are usually on strict diets/feeding schedules and any "tidbits" you give them will end up needing to be cleaned up.

[–]CheekyMunky 11 points12 points ago

I'm well aware of this as a rule, so as not to distract them, but I've always been curious: is it still hard and fast if you're what they're already focusing on? Say, for example, you're the cashier the dog is giving the wallet to in OP's pics; is it acceptable to give him a quick "good boy, thank you" and pat his head? Or is it still strictly hands-off for everyone but the owner?

[–]trmns 6 points7 points ago

its strictly hands off.

[–]DejaBoo 3 points4 points ago

Yep, and no eye contact. Your interaction is to be with the handler not the dog.

[–]mrbooze 5 points6 points ago

This is why you more often now see them wearing something that says "Please do not pet me, I am working".

[–]Banaam 4 points5 points ago

I usually ask the person for permission first.

[–]dearastronomer 2 points3 points ago

Even doing that can get you grumpy responses. Best off to admire silently.

[–]TheOneTrueCripple -1 points0 points ago

What you said.

[–]dr_nerdface 19 points20 points ago

i teared up a bit. what a wonderful companion. dogs are the best.

[–]killerbunny 8 points9 points ago

Love the last photo, it looks like the dog is saying " And what " in an ever productive efficient tone of voice.

[–]CanIGetaHellYeah 8 points9 points ago

After viewing this I looked over at my cat and thought "You lazy sod, I can't remember you ever doing anything that could be considered for my benefit"

Then she meowed and I remembered I am in this for pretty shallow reasons.

[–]BaeGabriela 26 points27 points ago

Wow, if my dog knew how to use my kreditcard I'd seriously freak out... And I'd probably be getting tons of bills from Petsmart.

[–]thegiftedape 5 points6 points ago

Needs caption "Got the skills to pay the bills"

[–]Hit-Enter-Too-Soon 24 points25 points ago

Dang. For once, the phrase "working like a dog" seems inadequate.

[–]whirl_wind29 12 points13 points ago

What a champ.

[–]BeerManBeardGang 16 points17 points ago

What a badass!

[–]The_One_Above_All 5 points6 points ago

How does the dog type in the PIN?

[–]liberterrorism 3 points4 points ago

I was wondering the same thing. Also, how does it know how much money to withdraw?

[–]Ateisti 2 points3 points ago

Seems exaggerated to me. Here's a vid where the owner is shown handling the PIN etc. and the dog just picks up the money.

[–]kevie3drinks 5 points6 points ago

My dog can do half, of all of that stuff.he can grab stuff from the counter, jump onto the ATM, pull the covers, you name it! the only problem is he then just runs off with the stuff.

[–]burlap_pterodactyl 3 points4 points ago

Why do people post photos of dogs as though Reddit only likes cats? The cat thing is kind of a dying trend - r/aww has almost the same number, sometimes, more, dogs on it.

[–]Turdsworth 9 points10 points ago

I WANT A DOG THAT CAN USE AN ATM!!!

[–]Dan_feels_sick 23 points24 points ago

But if he knows your PIN he can go get cash whenever, and buy all the dog treats he wants.

[–]FrumpyWarlock 105 points106 points ago

This dog is better at being human than i am.

[–]Blame_The_Green 74 points75 points ago

keming (n.) The result of improper kerning.

[–]folk10 22 points23 points ago

If I haven't seen it, then it's new to me.

[–]GeorgeTaylorG 3 points4 points ago

That comment specifically has been the near the top every time this is reposted.

[–]cutecutecute 4 points5 points ago

Service dogs make me cry happy tears every time I see them. They're so special!!

[–]woofers02 11 points12 points ago

With $30k in training, your dog can do that too!

[–]Lawlpielawl 20 points21 points ago

It's actually worth it if you have a condition like her.

[–]woofers02 9 points10 points ago

Pretty sure insurance also covers a huge portion of it if you have a condition like hers as well.

[–]Sven2774 1 point2 points ago

What condition is that?

[–]rAtheismSelfPostOnly 2 points3 points ago

Is there a (free) guide for training a dog do these things? I wonder

[–]bahhamburger 3 points4 points ago

sigh and my mom thinks my dog is talented because she can catch food mid-air

[–]alectheman 3 points4 points ago

Not Oc, but a repost

[–]Skybloom 5 points6 points ago

awww so cute! I can feel the love!

[–]odxzmn 8 points9 points ago

But.. but.. a cat can shit in a box!

[–]LipStick_SuckerPunch 4 points5 points ago

So can a dog if you train them to do so. :)

[–]odxzmn 10 points11 points ago

It was a joke, I love all animals to mania! Can't wait to get my own box-shitting-genius to go along with my squirrel-obsessed-couch-warmer :)

[–]ExplodingUnicorns 6 points7 points ago

This is one of the reasons I prefer dogs over cats.

[–]spungie 6 points7 points ago

Thats nothing, I can do all that.

[–]d3cib3l 3 points4 points ago

Question: How does the PIN number get entered on the ATM?

[–]mortaine 11 points12 points ago

You could tell this would never work with a cat.

Cats can't be trusted with your PIN.

[–]sirmegalorddrawesome 3 points4 points ago

at least someone in that home knows a decent beer, i wonder has he been trained to fetch the bods too

[–]UAssHat 2 points3 points ago

Thanks for the Cash, I'm out!

[–]Laureril 2 points3 points ago

My sister is training a therapy dog- not quite the same level, but still pretty intense. He just got his Canine Good Citizen. :)

[–]morriscode 2 points3 points ago

There's something about their eyes, that is just more compassionate than anything I've ever witnessed before.

[–]Thinks_Reddit_Is_RPG 2 points3 points ago

Caption of the last picture:

"Bitch, I can do all that and more. What can you do?"

[–]Brochachoski 2 points3 points ago

Repost

[–]dipset33 2 points3 points ago

No. I refuse to believe that this dog is capable of inserting a card into an ATM, typing in the pin, selecting the desired amount of cash to withdraw and then removing that cash and handing it to the owner.

I refuse.

[–]shm00ps 0 points1 point ago

And PETA whats to band helper dogs.

[–]bungchung 1 point2 points ago

fuck cats. They wouldnt help the lady at all.

[–]streetbum87 0 points1 point ago

I never want to meet the heartless souls who down voted this.

[–]kaliixx 13 points14 points ago

Down voted since it's been posted to reddit 40 times already...

[–]rastapouette 20 points21 points ago

Reddit is not static. People subscribes everyday. I don't think that "downvoting because repost" is worth it.

[–]aj_reddit_gaybi 13 points14 points ago

Sure. but when people post, they could add a comment indicating the source, rather than implying that they are the original source of the data.

[–]icepickjones 8 points9 points ago

EXACTLY!! I have no problems with reposting, really. It's when you don't attribute the original source that bothers me.

[–]formerlylurkinlurker 3 points4 points ago

Yup. Or when people title it as if it's their own. "Look at my cat!" When it clearly isn't. Or the one with the dog and a party hat with a tray of Twinkies and other stuff. The people who posted it made it seen like it was their dog. I get that new people subscribe everyday, and thats fine, but I think they should keep in mind the ones who have been here awhile and be honest about their post and give credit to where it's due.

[–]wishiwasAyla 4 points5 points ago

This right here is why I have little problem with reposts. Ive been here for a few months, and I've never seen this. So if nobody reposted it, I would have missed out on this truly awesome dog.

[–]BigJerd886 0 points1 point ago

I wish I had an awesome animal

[–]s-drop 0 points1 point ago

Amazing!

[–]penelopetheoneupper 1 point2 points ago

And all my dog is sleep and fart.

[–]haveanupvote2424 0 points1 point ago

Imagine....never getting up for a beer ever again.

[–]amesseck 1 point2 points ago

i had a dog that that was SUPPOSED to do stuff like that. thats why we got him went through the training and everything. beautiful GSD mix. he basically forgot everything though after a few years except for sit, stay, etc. he was a great dog but a lousy helper.

[–]therealpoole 1 point2 points ago

that is AWESOME glad my old dog didn't know how to use my atm card .. haha she loved bud lights..

[–]amesseck 0 points1 point ago

i can also speak from personal experience that many dogs are the happiest when they have a job to do

[–]wicketr 0 points1 point ago

So the dog knows her ATM number?

[–]itwasthegoatisay 1 point2 points ago

my dog won't even wake up before 10am...

[–]WhiteGravy 1 point2 points ago

This dog gets better every time I see it. Which is often.

[–]LtlAnalDwlngButtMnky 1 point2 points ago

Who needs thumbs when you have a mouth

[–]Dakota2145 0 points1 point ago

Amazing that dogs are capable of all this.

[–]llcbdavis 0 points1 point ago

what a smart, pretty roommate you have!

[–]pnpbios 0 points1 point ago

When my dog does this I have to chase him down with a news paper.

[–]hallsj 0 points1 point ago

....Who's taking the pictures here?

[–]bahhamburger 3 points4 points ago

the service hedgehog to the service dog

[–]Cole3823 0 points1 point ago

How did you get the link to be purple already...magic?

[–]catcrazylady 0 points1 point ago

Absolutely amazing. What a wonderful creature, puts humans to shame

[–]Loves2Poo 1 point2 points ago

What's even more amazing is that the dog was the one setting up a camera timer for all the pictures

[–]inmate655321 1 point2 points ago

Trying to convince my gf that I need a service dog for diabetes. It's not going well :(

[–]CrossEyed-FishFace 0 points1 point ago

How does one train their dog to help make the bed?

[–]LaunchThePolaris 0 points1 point ago

Wow. That dog does more chores than I do!

[–]ItsPronouncedTAYpas 1 point2 points ago

How the fuck does the dog work the ATM?!

[–]mm025678 0 points1 point ago

He can do all that but he still can't grab bacon because he doesnt have thumbs , likely story!

[–]irjooo 1 point2 points ago

Omgosh. That dog. Its face when he is doing laundry is just so precious!

[–]YanmingYu 1 point2 points ago

Dogs can be trained to use the atm? Mind = Blown

[–]fuckyeah_dogs 1 point2 points ago

This dog has a significantly higher work ethic than I, bravo.

[–]Dexidor 1 point2 points ago

10/10 would pet again.

[–]nightstrike 0 points1 point ago

I bet that dog uses the ATM better than I do. I always stick cards in wrong.

[–]PartyWithTina 0 points1 point ago

This makes me want to take back every upvote that I have ever bestowed upon a post until now.

[–]Tiny-Books 0 points1 point ago

Why the need for "not a cat?" Dog pics get just as much love over here.

[–]WhiteKidFromLi 1 point2 points ago

I've been a puppy raiser for canine companions forever and this makes me very very happy to see. The last dog i raised cooper wound up on the news.

[–]Epolo2012 0 points1 point ago

Hey, that's not my dog.

[–]TheOneTrueCripple 1 point2 points ago

Service dogs are awesome! As a paraplegic, I'm glad they exist!!

[–]BisonHide 0 points1 point ago

Sweet OC bro

[–]importantnameselectn 0 points1 point ago

Yup. :)

[–]hugestcat 0 points1 point ago

Wow. Just wow. I don't 'need', but I need a dog like this.

[–]Diemac 1 point2 points ago

A dog with a bank account. That is pretty cool.

[–]Alexaaaa 0 points1 point ago

I have all the respect in the world for these dogs. That's beyond awesome

[–]Klompy 1 point2 points ago

Dog's know how to use ATM's? Shit that's where all my money has been going....time to change my pin.

[–]accountnotfound2 1 point2 points ago

The last photo the look the dog has is great. I read it as, if you fuck with her, i'll take you off the shelf too!

[–]CreamWafers 0 points1 point ago

Is it me or is the title "Not a cat, but the best dog ever" a little passive aggressive? Yeah this dog is amazing, but what does that have to do with cats...?

[–]sleepypizza 0 points1 point ago

but is it worth dog slobber on EVERYTHING?

it is.

[–]CallMeAnEngineer 0 points1 point ago

I prefer dogs to cats, as cats are fucking doucherockets.

[–]m4ttsson 1 point2 points ago

Try to get your precious cats to do that! God, I hate cats! Yeah, I said it! And i would do it again! Go ahead! push me down to negative karma. But, we all know the cat is as useless as a wasp.

[–]dizzydude1968 0 points1 point ago

i would give anything to have a dog bring me one of the boddington's pub ales in the fridge

[–]Fort_Max 1 point2 points ago

This dog did more in the set of pictures here then my bro did in the 3 months that he lived with me

[–]VidenTheColdOne -1 points0 points ago

3 times in less than a month. I think this is a new record for reposts i've seen recently.

[–]dahabit 0 points1 point ago

I wonder if service dogs get aggressive towards people who are not welcomed.

[–]starcat06058 0 points1 point ago

that's amazing.

[–]sympatheticlink 2 points3 points ago

There is a shortage of puppy raisers in the seeing eye community right now.

For the first year of it's life a seeing eye companion is actually raised by regular people like you and me. All expenses are paid for except food. Crates, leashes, vet care, etc. are all taken care of. The problem is that many don't like to give it up after 12 months.

If this sounds like something that you would be interested in, you should google an agency near you (they are usually localized).

[–]Jonnydishes 1 point2 points ago

I upvoted, but it is kind of like saying 'it's no unicycle, but here is a photo of a MacLaren F1'

[–]blondeezy 0 points1 point ago

I wish I could trade my cat for one. My cat's a fat lazy shit.

[–]littleone5 0 points1 point ago

OH my lord that dog is amazing!

[–]LittlePinkNinja 0 points1 point ago

Why say "not a cat" like it's a bad thing? Dogs are way better than cats.

[–]chakkal 0 points1 point ago

This came to my mind, "When children do it, its called slavery, when dogs do it, its fucking amazing!!"

[–]Tshwizzle 1 point2 points ago

[–]Illquitwhenimdead 0 points1 point ago

That last picture made my feel like he was saying "I can do all of these and rip your spleen out in the blink of an eye, don't fuck around".

[–]JonnyBhoy 0 points1 point ago

Pointless, I only clean my clothes in the first place to get dog slobber out of them.

[–]agilemittens 0 points1 point ago

Touched mah heart O.Q So nice to see animals and humans coexisting so functionally

[–]Joester98 0 points1 point ago

You know what, fuck cats. Look at this dogs' unbeatable assistance. Suck it felines.

[–]somanyvoices 0 points1 point ago

The bank maching was a holy shit moment for me.

[–]Ryche 1 point2 points ago

I see him taking money out of the ATM, but I'm not seeing him making any deposits.

[–]dankability -2 points-1 points ago

Not a dog, but the best slave ever.

[–]boydrh 1 point2 points ago

FUCK YOU. I've seen the Bush's Baked Beans commercials, there is no way in hell I am giving any dog my ATM PIN!!!

[–]cargocultpants 0 points1 point ago

I don't think the dog needs that human

[–]Beerpongg 0 points1 point ago

He does so much I just want to show him some love in return!!

[–]NotoriousDIG 0 points1 point ago

I said it before and I'll get happily downvoted again... Fuck cats.

[–]DraconianCarbonUnit 0 points1 point ago

So... does the dog know the pin number?

[–]Ohyouu 0 points1 point ago

That dog better be SO well loved! Awesome

[–]Kashima 0 points1 point ago

I don't like dogs, but this is awesome.

[–]9ironman 0 points1 point ago

Holy shnikies that dog is awesome!

[–]Nachos47 0 points1 point ago

This is why dogs are better than cats.

[–]RubSomeFunkOnIt 0 points1 point ago

So dogs are able to make withdrawals from ATMs, now, eh? Soon they'll be swiping bank cards and peeking at pin numbers.

[–]jakedfriesen 0 points1 point ago

FEEEEELS!!!!

[–]chiyomihamarulez 0 points1 point ago

I've been thinking about training my golden puppy to be a service dog... It's this kind of thing that keeps me going!

So since I can't train my husband to do these things I need to start working on the dogs eh? I think three dogs could have me a spotless house and dinner on the table when I get in from work, if I play my cards right.

Cool dog but I loved my dog Buster. He was always there for me when I needed him most. Cuddled next to me when I needed someone and went with me on walks. He was hit by a car this past week and I'll miss him dearly. I love u bud!
