Oh hey, that my photo!

Photographer here! (Proof?)

Anyway, I have a blog post about how the photo was made, how we actually were standing that close to lava, and a brightened crop of the image to see just how completely awkward our legs were!

Thank you to DaedalusMinion for posting, and I'm glad so many people like it! It was enough for me to log out of my lurker account and make one in my own name. ;)

Man, all the people saying the image is photoshopped makes me sad because they dismiss that this is possible outright, meaning they'll never even try.

Seeing lava IRL was probably one of the most incredible experiences of my life, and it's one non-believers will never even think to have :(

So much of r/perfecttiming is not timing at all, but instead careful and detailed scene setup and preparation.

Not that that makes this any less awesome of a photo. I love it. Just wanted to share something that bugs me sometimes.
