Suddenly math isn't all that crazy. People do go out and buy crazy amounts of watermelons lol

Ugh, pallet tubs of watermelons. Back in my produce department days, these things were like a demonic roulette.

While you may assume that the big rig trucks which transport fruits and vegetables to grocery stores are refrigerated, the fact is that most of them are not. All the time when a truck driver opens his trailer's rear door upon delivery, a burst of hot air escapes.

Said fruits and vegetables essentially bake in the large oven that is the big rig's trailer as its rolling down the highway, and quite a bit of the produce essentially cooks and spoils.

Enter the watermelon tubs. The melons on the bottom are under tremendous weight from the melons on top, and so many of them, during transport, begin to ferment, soften, and collapse. By the time they reach the stores, it looks like a playpen of babies was slaughtered at the bottom of the tubs.

The best part was when the rotten watermelons didn't collapse, and instead oozed through your fingers when you picked them up. The texture and smell still haunt my dreams.

Moral of the story: Go to college.
