I still demand to know the context of this gif. what is she replying to?

[–]tlrmx 6 points7 points ago

context

I think she's just responding to something someone said in the crowd.

[–]arcainic 1 point2 points ago

Probably: Oh yeah, sure... (sarcastically)

That's funny, considering how the US is implicated in fabricating rape claims to have Britain fork over Wikileak's founder.

[–]BaconCat -1 points0 points ago

u wan bacon sammich?

[–]tobypenter 21 points22 points ago

As a non American I still find it a bit weird that most countries deport people to America if America wants them, but the USA is reluctant to return the favour, it's not a criticism; merely political musings.

[–]hideous-bike 9 points10 points ago

The USA isn't even a part off the international justice courts in The Hague. So i.e. they won't allow for possible American war criminals to be tried.

[–]theoriginalaks 2 points3 points ago

Its one of the perks of being a superpower in an economically connected world.

[–]Vouk73 1 point2 points ago

It should be criticism.

[–]guitarist9108 0 points1 point ago

It was my understanding that America only deports foreign fugitives if the arresting country also does the same for us. And typically, it has to be a crime that is recognized in both countries (murder counts, hate speech doesn't)

[–]Polymarchos 1 point2 points ago

See: Roman Polaski.

Wait...

[–]Pelican_Poop 88 points89 points ago

It's funny because America does the same thing

[–]Netnix 2 points3 points ago

Kim Dotcom?

[–]jonlucc 2 points3 points ago

[–]Deluxe754 8 points9 points ago

Except he actually boke the law in this case, and it had nothing to do with the movie.

[–]publius4 -3 points-2 points ago

To whom?

[–]gambiit 4 points5 points ago

everyone.

[–]publius4 -1 points0 points ago

Example?

[–]Golf16 5 points6 points ago

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-16045737

There you go, they also ruined his life?

[–]publius4 -4 points-3 points ago

Being charged with breaking into government records is not even remotely comparable to being charged with blasphemy or offensive speech.

[–]Fluck 0 points1 point ago

Yes, revealing war crimes to the world is EVIL.

Especially compared to messages that are designed simply to incite hatred!

You are complicit in the war crimes your government/military commits because of the ignorant perspectives you espouse in messages like that. Your ignorance disgusts and frightens the entire world... because you base your vitriol and violent actions on that same ignorance.

Thanks for perpetuating the stereotype, though. It's nice to be vindicated.

[–]publius4 0 points1 point ago

I'm not defending the US's war crimes. No need to fly off the handle.

All I said, is that the charges are not the same. Blasphemy =/= leaking government records. They are two different things, whether you approve of them or not.

[–]Golf16 1 point2 points ago

That wasn't the point he point was that the us demand his arrest...

[–]horrorfetish -2 points-1 points ago

The entire middle east.

[–]publius4 -3 points-2 points ago

That's not an example. Can you be more specific? I.e. a specific incident, involving specific people?

[–]EPIC_RAPTOR 2 points3 points ago

How about a group of randos attack the Twin Towers and so we go fuck 3 countries up for 10 years.

[–]publius4 3 points4 points ago

Yes, our reaction to 9/11 was definitely because we felt "offended".

[–]3lectronic 4 points5 points ago

Just one of many..."Well, for example, the United States happens to be the only state in the world that has been condemned by the World Court for international terrorism, would have been condemned by the Security Council, except that it vetoed the resolution. This referred to the U.S. terrorist war against Nicaragua, the court ordered the United States to desist and pay reparations. The U.S. responded by immediately escalating the crimes, including first official orders to attack what are called soft targets -- undefended civilian targets. This is massive terrorism. It is by no means the worst, and it continues right to the present, so for example... "

[–]EPIC_RAPTOR 1 point2 points ago

What we did in the middle east would be like if the WBC went and did something stupid in Russia, and then Russia decided to invade us because of it.

[–]messrmo 0 points1 point ago

The world boxing council?

[–]accountnotfound2 -4 points-3 points ago

Example please!

[–]ThraShErDDoS 13 points14 points ago

Here. He is ours to deal with, leave him alone.

[–]philldwill -1 points0 points ago

Um, the title of this post says "offend" not steal... not that I'm defending the actions of the US, just pointing out the difference.

[–]Fluck 0 points1 point ago

The difference is that the "THEM" group calls it being offended, whereas the "US" group calls it copyright theft.

You think this blasphemy crap is such a big deal... but the rest of the world is just as disgusted and frightened by America's willingness to defend its power grabs around the world, its influence in international courtrooms, its despicable attempts to censor and punish those who counter the rhetoric of hollywood.

And it's worse because America actually succeeds in fucking up the democratic process in other countries. America actually succeeds in ruining the lives of people who make offensive material copyright violations, regardless of how many thousands of miles from the US border that happened.

You are defending the actions of the US, whether you intend to or not: your comments trivialise these inexcusable violations of sovereignty by pointing out - and, because none exists, trying to make an actual issue of - a pathetically irrelevant semantic difference in the justification used for limiting free speech in other countries.

[–]Pelican_Poop 3 points4 points ago

Just recently some kid in the UK set up a website that linked to sites where people could pirate music and other stuff. The US demanded (and succeeded) in getting this high school kid extradited to the US. or at least that was the case before I stopped following the story.

[–]whetu 0 points1 point ago

ACTA and TPP. Because RIAA/MPAA-friendly copyright legislation belongs in free trade agreements /s

[–]Hot_Beef_Injection 0 points1 point ago

Terrance and Phillip.

[–]burndownthescene 57 points58 points ago

Someone should share this with Julian Assange.

[–]LEEKAYTAR 7 points8 points ago

I was thinking that myself.

[–]Leelu_Multipass 4 points5 points ago

I was thinking Kim Dotcom

[–]Moara7 1 point2 points ago

Or Richard O'Dwyer

[–]publius4 1 point2 points ago

Why?

[–]ttnorac 2 points3 points ago

He didn't offend anyone. He tattled on the government.

[–]Sectioned 9 points10 points ago

Snitches get stitches

[–]VTJP 0 points1 point ago

And end up in ditches

[–]sticky_gecko 28 points29 points ago

But the US can do it to NZ with DotCom?

[–]TheAlpacalypse 0 points1 point ago

If you care and you know it clap your hands.......

[–]Klowned 7 points8 points ago

It's because of our dick size.

[–]rasputin777 2 points3 points ago

The feds just arrested the filmmaker of 'The innocence of muslims" for 'parole violation'...
FYI.

[–]airmind 79 points80 points ago

This is my reaction when i hear that the US is a land of freedom and choice.

[–]BlueberryRapeWhistle 12 points13 points ago

Are you fucking serious?

[–]Regvlas 9 points10 points ago

If you don't like america, you can giiit out.

[–]jaredw 14 points15 points ago

just not your choice.

[–]Intrinsic_Value 3 points4 points ago

Jennifer Lawrence is fucking hot.

[–]koopatroopa92 15 points16 points ago

Jennifer Lawrence, automatic upvote

[–]Rebooturtle 5 points6 points ago

I have been looking for this gif for months! Thank you!! :D

[–]LtCthulhu 1 point2 points ago

[–]Rebooturtle 9 points10 points ago

I couldn't think of her name... Sorry

[–]RedeemingVices 4 points5 points ago

Only works if you know her name. I've never heard of her before.

[–]squishypoo91 0 points1 point ago

She's the hunger games girl

[–]netraven5000 2 points3 points ago

Isn't it kinda hypocritical? Everyone better extradite Assange because fuck him, but if one of our citizens breaks one of your laws then hell no we aren't going to help you punish them.

[–]Lots42 -1 points0 points ago

Because making a stupid movie is exactly the same as spreading top secret info out to all and sundry.

[–]netraven5000 0 points1 point ago

In those countries, that movie is illegal. In our country, what Assange did is not illegal.

Look, you have to admit - it's a little hypocritical.

[–]TheOilyHill 0 points1 point ago

i think the only problem I have with Assange is the way he hold back on the information as he distributing it. Why hold back info? what is else he hiding from us on top of what the government is hiding? is it for blackmail?

[–]TheWorstBro 3 points4 points ago

Damn it, the boner is back.

[–]youareaturkey 4 points5 points ago

Upvote for Jennifer Lawrence

[–]skywalker777 2 points3 points ago

heres an example of me giving a shit:

[–]dirty_fingers -1 points0 points ago

He didn't just offend someone, he's stealing and profiting from someone else's hard work. Not the same thing.

[–]Shortcake_amy 1 point2 points ago

And that's why other people in other countries think the states are full of dicks! (Obv. Generalisation not true of all!)

[–]thefightingmongoose -1 points0 points ago

Not everybody. Just the Republicans, church go'ers, NRA members, reality TV personalities, YOLO'ers, People who don't know what the word socialism means, people who can't find Canada on a map, etc. Those other guys are cool beans!

[–]Beefmotron 1 point2 points ago

kudos on saying this without a hint of irony! also how was school today? did the teacher give you a lot of homework?

[–]ITS540PM -1 points0 points ago

Another country arrest a person that offended them? Sounds like WWI...

[–]grokthol 1 point2 points ago

and you're humble too!

[–]SamMustacheMan 1 point2 points ago

Could someone give me the source for this please?

[–]dubdubdubdot 0 points1 point ago

Might is right.

[–]Gangstasaurus_Rex 1 point2 points ago

Isn't this what the UK does whenever the US asks them to expedite a criminal?

[–]omgitsfall 0 points1 point ago

Jennifer Lawrence.

[–]yumyumpeople 0 points1 point ago

*WHENEVER I SEE THE US DEMAND THE ARREST OF A PERSON WHO HAS OFFENDED THEM - MEGA UPLOAD FOREVER

[–]Riotdrone 0 points1 point ago

And then the US doesn't allow people who really should be tried on an international level that kind of exposure. Elmer Pratt for one.

[–]seeteethree 0 points1 point ago

Oh, yeah. Justice department arrested him today. Yeah, we're sovereign.

[–]HowObvious 0 points1 point ago

Way to fit into the international community.

[–]skywalker777 -2 points-1 points ago

as long as america has the power to do and get what it wants it doesn't have to fit into the international community because the international community fits into us.

[–]angg56 -2 points-1 points ago

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly why you guys are getting worse and China and India are getting better.

[–]Lots42 3 points4 points ago

Yeah. China would totally hand over a dude just like that.

[–]skywalker777 -1 points0 points ago

hey man if the rest of the world wants to step away from the US theres nothing we can really do about it, its just not going to happen anytime soon. you can think it will, you can say china and india are getting better blah blah but we're not going anywhere. we've dealt with economic issues before, we're survived the worst of wars and political disarray and always come back on top.

[–]angg56 -2 points-1 points ago

And you still have people trying to get creationism taught in schools and have a hissy fit whenever someone does something to wrong you. After merrily fucking up Japan and Vietnam, you really have been at the top for too long.

[–]skywalker777 0 points1 point ago

that may be true, in fact it probably is, but whose going to kick us off the mountain? china? india? i'm sure they can try but i don't very much think they're going to want to and if they do, you can be damn sure America isn't going to go down without a fight. we like being on top and if we have anything to say about it, its going to stay that way. if you don't like it, thats understandable, but thats life, it ain't fair.

[–]angg56 -5 points-4 points ago

Yeah you do like to be on top, because you are a bunch of elitist douche bags. But well, we're getting tired of your shit master 'merica.

[–]skywalker777 3 points4 points ago

well tough luck fucker.

[–]angg56 -4 points-3 points ago

well tough luck fucker

And children this was called "Patriotism", of course we have gotten over that now because it only caused problems. -Some teacher 50 years from now.

[–]skywalker777 3 points4 points ago

thats called realism. i'm not saying america is on top because i was born here, i'm saying it because its true. the tough luck part was mostly because you called us douche bags, you reep what you sow. besides, "nationalism" would have been a better term to use, what are you an idiot?

[–]GoTzMaDsKiTTLez 0 points1 point ago

really? and who should be on top? A european country with their inability to stop waring with eachother because someone got butthurt? or should it be china so they can make it globally legal for them to disperse there overflowing population anywhere they want? maybe it should be an african country, because we all know how self efficient they are with their own country. face it, America may not be a great global leader, but there isn't anyone better than us.

[–]angg56 -1 points0 points ago

No body should be on top. Simple as that, give the UN the power or something.

[–]b3stinth3world -1 points0 points ago

That would be the single dumbest decision anyone could ever make. Yeah, let's put the guys in charge that represent absolutely no one and let them make the world's decisions! The UN has such a glorious track record of success and tolerance. As for the nobody should be on top argument... it's fucking nature for something to be on top. Giving the UN the power essentially just created the somebody on top... and it would be even worse than having the US on top, or China, or India, or anyone. Your hatred for the US may be just, whatever, but your idea that no one should be on top is naive and impossible. There's ALWAYS a bigger fish.

[–]HowObvious 0 points1 point ago

America has started most of the modern large scale wars.

[–]Jakio -5 points-4 points ago

Well this is fairly ignorant.

[–]skywalker777 0 points1 point ago

its the truth, its not pretty or moral or upstanding, but its the truth. other countries, even powerful ones, have and continue to bend over backwards for the interest of america and its because of our geopolitical, military, and cultural influence. are you going to tell me i'm wrong?

[–]Jakio -1 points0 points ago

It may be truth, in fact I've no evidence to point to the contrary, but that doesn't mean it isn't ignorant, or a correct way to go about it.

America might not always have the strength behind it that it does now, and then what? Your nation is already viewed (stereotypically) as an ignorant, bordering jingoist set of countries.

At the moment, countries might be bending over backwards, but once circumstances change, you may find that it's you bending over backwards to please them.

[–]skywalker777 2 points3 points ago

tell you what, when that day comes i'll PM you and you can brag about how you saw it coming all those years (hell maybe months right?) ago, but until then you can keep telling me how ignorant our policies are and how bad we are for the world, and we'll just keep on doing exactly what we were going to do anyway. if this pisses you off, it should. its not fair, its not right even, but its real life and theres not much you or i can do about it.

[–]Jakio -2 points-1 points ago

I'm not bragging, and neither would I be petty enough to think of PMing you about it.

All I'm saying is that I found your comment ignorant, and the fact that you represent the people of your country, means that change to these things falls onto you. Want to make more people think America is actually populated with knowledgeable, tolerant and friendly people?

Do it yourself, be an ambassador for your country. Don't get stuck into this "No matter what I do, nothing will make a difference", because that's a fallacy in itself, if you change just one persons opinion on America and it's people to how you actually want to be viewed, rather than how you're currently viewed, then you're winning.

[–]skywalker777 1 point2 points ago

i understand what you're saying and when i say this i want to be sure you know its me saying it, not all of america, not a majority even, just me, skywalker777: what makes you think i care what people say about americans in other countries? what makes you think i "want to be viewed" more favorably? my entire argument has been that america itself does what it wants and gets help from the rest of the world to do it. i'm happy, i live a good life in a beautiful city in a great country, i don't really care if people in paris call all americans fat and stupid because why would i? we as americans don't need the approval of the world populace to continue our lives other than to just make us feel a little better, but i already feel great so no, i don't want to strive to make europeans or anyone else think so much better of us, because in the end its just me anyway, a single person and i bet a lot of non-americans would like me if they knew me and i'm sure there would be some that wouldn't. call americans names, call us dumb, call us whatever you would like, its really not going to make a difference anyway.

[–]b3stinth3world 1 point2 points ago

America isn't in the business of pleasing everybody else. We're in the business of staying ahead through military and political might. Sure, we have some ass backwards people that blindly follow religion, but how is that any different from other countries that have people blindly following a wide variety of other things. America is on top, and will always be on top provided we don't fuck up the one thing that gives us the advantage over the rest of the world... the Constitution.

TL;DR You're right, I don't understand why Jakio considers it an ignorant opinion to state a truth about the world. Ignorance would be not recognizing the brutal ways of the world, and the fact the America has the advantages that make it able to be the world's largest dick.

[–]ttnorac -2 points-1 points ago

I think I did this exact thing.
