I've personally had absolutely zero issues in my city and along the routes I frequent, but there's no doubting iOS 6's maps are in their infancy. Also, I love the humor.

So, an iOS 6 user walks into a bar... or a hotel... or an open field... he's really not sure.

If you live in Canada, a lot of the mapping is actually quite good. Calgary has been one of the best experiences for me, so far.

The level of quality you're seeing in Calgary is most definitely not consistent across the board for the entire country. Canada is just too large. In my neck of the woods, the quality of Apple's mapping data is atrocious. While Google has all of the streets and small towns properly named and in some cases even building outlines and POIs, Apple doesn't even manage to label the towns at all whatsoever, let alone get the streets right. Forget about POIs. When looking up an address for the area, I was geocoded to somewhere in Australia. At least in my rural area, Apple Maps is utterly abysmal compared to Google Maps.

there are small visual changes all over the place. passbook is new but i havent really gotten into using it yet. siri is supposedly rebuilt from the ground up to work better... it does seem to work pretty well but i didnt have siri before so i'm not sure of the difference. nothing is drastically different in a "change the way you do things" kindof way.

as for the maps... the turn by turn directions are fantastic, with an uncanny ability to reroute as you drive in real time. the use of yelp information is also great... if you start typing in the name of a restaurant, for example, you will get live suggestions after a couple letters. this was something that was always missing from the google maps app on iphone. once you choose the location, you'll also get photos, reviews, and all the information you would normally find on yelps page. i haven't run into any of the misplaced locations as of yet... not sure if that was just an overreaction to a few incorrect locations or if it is actually a widespread problem that i have yet to see (i live in a major city so that may help). the 3d satellite maps are pretty cool, though i usually kept my maps in standard map view on google maps anyway. the lack of public transportation maps is a little disappointing, though the apple maps app allows you to integrate 3rd party public transport routing apps of your choice into the app... i have not attempted this yet.

i ordered the new phone right when it became available (i was up for an upgrade and had been holding out) and felt a sense of dread that i had made the wrong decision when reddit shit all over the new maps app. the phone just arrived a couple days ago and I am relieved and more than happy with my purchase. i see no reason to hold off updating a 4 or 4s to ios6 unless you are heavily dependent on the public transportation part of google maps and do not feel like the 3rd party apps will do the trick.

I really have no idea what all the fuss is about... I LOVED google maps... I came on reddit and saw all the posts.I turned it on to do a side by side comparison with google and I was ready to just rip into it and complain about it... But I couldn't. Apple Maps was just as good if not better.

I think maybe they're just pissed because their usual map app got taken from them and they dont want to change? Whatever man... everyone jump on that fuckin bandwagon.

tl;dr- Used Apple maps to find the location of my audition today... works great. You can all return to your lives now.

It really depends where you are. The navigation is good in most cases, but for example in my city it lists a LOT of restaurants that no longer exist or were never there at all and misses almost all of the existing locations. If you search for "cinama", it might take you to a clothing shop or other things...

The app is usable here if you just search for the correct address and it is fast, but it is just nowhere near the quality of google maps.
