I deleted a bunch of facebook "friends" recently. It's a bitter sweet moment, knowing you never have to see their lame status's again, but also the realization of how few friends I care about or want to keep in touch with.

I never understood this phenomenon, that is, people who delete a bunch of facebook friends then post somewhere about it, either on facebook or reddit. It's like, if they're so meaningless, why bother deleting them in the first place? If it provides them with some tiny amount of happiness being friends with you on facebook, what the hell do you care if you're friends with them? Are your status updates that confidential? Do you hope they'll beg you to be friends with them? Is seeing their status updates that annoying that you have to actually waste time removing them from your friends list?

Or do you just want us to know that you have enough facebook friends to delete 300 of them like it's no big deal? Bottom line, is showing everyone how little you care really worth that much effort?

I think unfriending someone holds more weight to some than we think. It is almost like a giant fuck you (ie. the gif) to whoever is on the receiving end that you went out of your way to "officially" cut that person out of your life while also illustrating to them that you couldn't give a single fuck about theirs. For a lot of people facebook has become an "official" record of sorts for who your "friends" are. I've always just hid annoying people's updates; also don't have a bajllion friends.
