    It's happened more than once. I usually freeze as it wanders around my glasses. Then throw them off and run to make some distance between me and my glasses. Then when I think it's safe I tiptoe back and pick up my hopefully not broken glasses. To someone looking on from a distance, I probably look like I'm on drugs.

    I just learned this yesterday that such a reaction comes from a sudden activation of the amygdala in the brain that mediates fear (along with other emotions, part of the limbic system). The sensory input from your eyes goes (in such situation) directly to the amygdala before it reaches the vision centre in the back of the brain. It causes a quick, almost like a reflex, respons too make you avoid potential danger.

      There was a set of zoos in the Baltimore/Washington area that had a habit of stealing each others animals as a playful game of sorts. This was probably in the late 80s when this occurred. This kept on for many years until the mid-90s, when new management in one of the zoos wanted to call this off. However, the other zoo kept the practice up. In order to identify the animals that belonged in the Baltimore zoo, the zookeepers would cut the tigers tails short. There were even threats of prosecution when this still didn't cease. Things got ugly really quick. I'm just kidding, I don't know shit about tigers or zoos.

        As stated in most of my comments, I use the Deshaker filter/plugin with VirtualDub to stabilize .gif images. It is a fairly quick and mostly automated process.
