Chemical reaction via Youtube comments:

2Hg (SCN) 2 --> 2HgS + CS2 + C3N4

most of the solid product is C3N4 , puffed-up by gas bubbles. The gases come from CS2, which reacts with oxygen in the air using all that heat, like this:

CS2 + 3O2 → CO2 + 2SO2

those two products are both gases, and evolve even more heat seen by the faint flames
