This is all speculation on my part but I think the reason for buying said accounts is to be able to spam for longer undetected an account created 0days ago would be quickly spotted whereas an account that is 6-12 months old with a long sub history would need a decent amount of reports to get caught out.

I've come across a couple of people who happily admitted that they bought their account. One worked in marketing for an agency and used it to submit content from clients and the other guy never replied when I pressed him for an explanation.

It happened to me once. I commented "Repost. Downvote." Then she commented that she made it originally. As soon as people saw my comment, they posted links to the original post. Being the idiot she was, she commented on all of us. She said, and I quote:

"That is a fake! The other person reposted because I made this my self. You guys are all just jealous because I made the front page (she wasn't on the front page) and you didn't! Stupid jerks!" She sounded like an 8 year old girl on facebook.

I didn't know redditors could be like that.

Yeah, I got sick of this so I now just force things on people. It's called tough love. If someone's over and we decide to watch a movie I'll show them my collection and let them pick. Then I will disregard that pick and put in something like Arrested Development, Freaks and Geeks, IT Crowd etc etc without telling them. They'll protest for 5 minutes but give up fairly quickly. They then admit it's a great show when it wraps and then inevitably 3 weeks later I hear they've finished the entire series. Works every time.
