Wtf? I've been back in school for about 3 weeks, how are you in MID terms?!

[–]Wesside 9 points10 points ago

My bet is repost?

[–]zeug666 3 points4 points ago

Or a school on trimesters.

[–]augustbandit 3 points4 points ago

I'm at one, term hasn't started yet.

[–]zeug666 2 points3 points ago

True, OP would have had to of started around mid-August for it to be mid-terms already, maybe they are at a school on a "block" schedule.

[–]smcedged 1 point2 points ago

I started school August 20th.

[–]MissPiggyDoodle 2 points3 points ago

I haven't even started yet! UCLA doesn't start until the 27th. wait.. thats tomorrow. shit

[–]smcedged 0 points1 point ago

Well, I'm not me. I is my girlfriend. My actual school, who beat you guys 50-0, started August 27th.

[–]Cloud7654 0 points1 point ago

I started school the week after that, but I definitely don't have midterms next week.

Or maybe I do and I'm just screwed.

[–]Kotaniko 0 points1 point ago

Seriously, it's not even fucking October. Maybe OP's semester ends in mid November?

[–]SurreabralReef 5 points6 points ago

My profs call all their tests midterms, so, maybe that's the deal here?

[–]Kotaniko 0 points1 point ago

That makes absolutely no sense. A midterm is supposed to be a test given at the mid point of a semester, generally on all of the material covered up to that point.

[–]SurreabralReef 0 points1 point ago

vOv I don't know why they do like they do, but it is.

[–]ShadowX22 0 points1 point ago

That's what it should be. Then some classes began to have exams 4-5 times a semester instead of the 2. While they are technically now exams, some people still call them midterms.

[–]smcedged 0 points1 point ago

A test cumulative in the middle of the term is called a midterm exam. A test that is not cumulative in the middle of the term is an exam. And the last test, regardless of cumulative-ness, is the final exam.

/bullshit

[–]MyWorkHereIsDone[S] 1 point2 points ago

That's it. It's a bad habit that all of the professors have taught me. I guess a more appropriate description would have been "the first round of exams".

[–]DreamoftheEndless 1 point2 points ago

IDK but for some reason the word 'midterm' lost meaning, where I went, typically there were three tests, two of them were 'midterms' and one the 'final'. I understand this is the case in many schools as well.

[–]TheWhiteShadow42 1 point2 points ago

Yep. For me it happens to be three midterms (just exams) and one final. I actually have a chemistry midterm at 7:00 tonight and i had a calculus 3 midterm last night.

[–]DreamoftheEndless 1 point2 points ago

Must feel good that those are over!

[–]TheWhiteShadow42 1 point2 points ago

Well, for me they were fairly easy, but it still feels nice. Now for a super easy midterm: intro to psychology. 3 exams in 3 days kind of sucks, but luckily I know the material well enough that they should all be easy.

[–]DreamoftheEndless 1 point2 points ago

Nice yeah intro to psych is a fun one!

[–]TheWhiteShadow42 0 points1 point ago

Aaaand it was super easy. I finished in 30 minutes of the allotted 75 minutes. There were even a few people that finished in about 15-20 minutes.

[–]barbaroonski 1 point2 points ago

Could be an accelerated term?

[–]TokesAndJokes 0 points1 point ago

At my school some classes have two or even three tests that the teachers call midterms, I have some this week and next week.

[–]h3p 0 points1 point ago

Accelerated, 7-9 week courses.

[–]BurrDurrMurrDurr 1 point2 points ago

It's common for faculty and students to call any test a midterm. I don't know why but my Virology professor told us we have "3 midterms and a final." They're just tests

[–]SofisticatdIgnorance 1 point2 points ago

My professors called every exam a midterm, even if we had 3 of them in a semester. It always frustrated me.

[–]andrewhood125 0 points1 point ago

I was thinking the same thing. We start early for USA and I am on week 6 of 20. He is not a smart man....

[–]TheWhiteShadow42 0 points1 point ago

I've already been here for almost 4.5 weeks already. I had a midterm last night, I have one tonight, and I have one tomorrow as well.

[–]zublits 0 points1 point ago

I know some classes have two "midterms" that are actually closer to 1/3rd and 2/3rds of the way through. The usual

[–]ziggyfooled 3 points4 points ago

Its entirely about pure time spent studying....

[–]smcedged 3 points4 points ago

That's... not necessarily true...

My thermo tests last year were around 35%, with a stdev of 12%. The point, the prof said, was to show much you don't know vs how much you do know. There was one guy who got a 90%, and a whole lots of 0%.

My point? There are the kinds of tests that make you derive equations and generate new ideas on the spot. And you can study all you want, but it's not gonna make the ass-raping any better (Open notes, open book, with supplemental equations given on the test).

[–]Umkhombo 1 point2 points ago

Don't stress too much mate. I've always found that the exams that worried me I did best at. The ones I felt were easy tended to kick my ass. Backwards I know, but it seems to be a common thing.

I'm being reminded that I don't miss those days as well as being reminded of how long ago college was.

[–]astralvortex 0 points1 point ago

...but you know what love is?

[–]Lemonyfrogs 0 points1 point ago

Not with that attitude.

[–]AdaroTeiji 1 point2 points ago

My college doesn't even start until tomorrow :D

[–]CapatinAhab 0 points1 point ago

OP, it's more about knowing what's going to be on the exam and going in fully knowing what to expect before you get there. If you ask the professor what to focus on and get past years exams (they post past exams in some of my classes) then you should be fine. Know the hell out of the review problems/readings.

One piece of advice my academic advisor gave me was "study until you can go into every exam knowing with 100% confidence you are going to get an A",this was from a man who went from failing orgo twice to a Phd so it really stuck with me.

[–]StutteringJohn 0 points1 point ago

I'm in week 5. first tri-mester.

[–]Spring_Break 0 points1 point ago

midterms is september?!?!?!

[–]MandyzFelix -1 points0 points ago

Downvote for a title that is surely FULL OF LIES.

[–]JonnyGalt 0 points1 point ago

Just honest advice, you probably should get off reddit for a week or 2 :)
