Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Rockford IL? You should head on over to Elgin. We got all the Mexican food you'll ever need.

[–]clumaho 4 points5 points ago

mmmmm ElFaros steak burrito. yum

[–]Han-ChewieSexyFanfic 4 points5 points ago

Elgin, IL? You should head on over to Mexico. We got all the Mexican food you'll ever need.

[–]scoobyduped 3 points4 points ago

California's mexican food is almost as good, and you won't have to worry about getting beheaded by those pesky cartels.

[–]linearcore -1 points0 points ago

In some ways California's Mexican food is better. We invented the California Burrito (and the current "burrito" America is used to anyways).

[–]L0que 4 points5 points ago

Or Sycamore. ROSITA'S...

...is slightly above average. But their margaritas are amazing!

[–]ccsmd73 1 point2 points ago

ENCHILADA STACK MOTHER FUCKERS.

[–]HotSauceInTheEye 1 point2 points ago

Where is the best Mexican food in Elgin?

[–]the_hd_easter 2 points3 points ago

El Paraiso. That is so damn good. Also I found out my town sucks a little less due to the presence of other redditors!

[–]FordSVT1 -1 points0 points ago

Redditors are everywhere!

Like herpes!

[–]TreeFittyZ 1 point2 points ago

And a casino where all of the area's aristocrats hang out!

[–]ChaosJohnson 1 point2 points ago

aristocrats? not sure that's the correct word...

[–]Ogrik 1 point2 points ago

AristoCATS. Pff...

[–]tehsusenoh 0 points1 point ago

I've always thought about undocking the casino and just cruising down the Fox.

[–]soderna 10 points11 points ago

Born there - I hope I never have to return. I will say, however, Lino's pizza was pretty awesome and Maria's was once a bright spot in an otherwise rough area. Stockholm Inn is great. Lived in Chicago for 18 years and it is nearly impossible to compare the variety of restaurants in the city versus a town just 90 miles away (now 2 years in the 'burbs and I have to say I miss access to many of the smaller joints - less so the high end places). I've always said "the best thing about Rockford is that it is close to Chicago - the worst thing about Rockford is that it is close to Chicago." Since it is close, people somehow think it is almost the same. It's not.

[–]nrepay 2 points3 points ago

Exactly, easy to get into the city. But the fact it's so close to the city takes all culture and business away from Rockford, in favor of Chicago.

[–]Enoch84 0 points1 point ago

No, Rockford's shitty ass ghetto folk and terrible schools do that.

[–]Uses_Nouns_as_Verbs 2 points3 points ago

The best thing about Rockford is the Rathskeller.

Edit: spelling

[–]tehsusenoh 2 points3 points ago

I am truly surprised that nobody has mentioned the Machine Shed. I love eggs.

[–]ironically_hip 2 points3 points ago

Aw man...I was born in Rockford, but haven't been there in about 5-8 years. I haven't thought about the Rathskellar in so long. The nostalgia!

[–]Tramontana 0 points1 point ago

I love that place.

However, apparently they are planning to make a roundabout on the road like right there. I think if that goes through, bye bye Der Rathskeller.

Roundabouts are fucking dumb for the most part anyway.

[–]Uses_Nouns_as_Verbs 0 points1 point ago

Why would that get rid of Der Rathskeller? It's been there since 1931. That would be a travesty!

[–]Tramontana 0 points1 point ago

Because the rest of Rockford is retarded.

[–]soderna 1 point2 points ago

come into Chicago and try Laschet's Inn www.laschetsinn.com 2119 West Irving Park Road and (across the street) Resi's Bierstube 2034 W Irving Park Rd... both awesome dives with killer german food... legit. Haven't been to Rathskellar is a long time, so it is hard for me to compare.

[–]TheSignPost 0 points1 point ago

I thought the best thing was Cheap Trick

.

[–]poetryslam 1 point2 points ago

Lino's is where everyone went for homecoming when I was in highschool.

[–]espifer 0 points1 point ago

I am from this Rockford... Now in Milwaukee (8 yrs). Lino's Pizza is good but John's Pizza on 11th St. and Pino's Pizza on Main St. is better...

[–]poetryslam 0 points1 point ago

Good to know. Lisa's on N. Oakland and Zaffiro's on Farwell are the best pizza I could find in Milwaukee, but that was a few years ago.

[–]ParadiseTech 0 points1 point ago

Let's not forget Thai Billiards on Broadway. That $5 Pad Thai is still the shiz. And the have Centipede.

[–]neoslickstep 8 points9 points ago

Come on guys. Think outside the bun.

[–]TheCannon 13 points14 points ago

Taco Bell? Mexican food?

I think not.

[–]Pykoh 4 points5 points ago

Restaurant?

[–]Sobek -1 points0 points ago

yeah it's defiantly not food

[–]thehappypill11 8 points9 points ago

defiantly: in a rebellious manner; "he rejected her words defiantly".

definitely: without doubt (used for emphasis): "I will definitely be at the airport to meet you".

http://www.d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y.com/

[–]smarmosaur 2 points3 points ago

Most likely Sobek spelled it as "definatly". Most spell checkers, for some reason probably relating to edit distance between "defiantly" and "definatly", assume you mean "defiantly". Microsoft Word even auto-corrects "definatly" to "defiantly" by default, probably based on the assumption that it's a simple transposition rather than an inability to spell "definitely".

[–]Sobek 2 points3 points ago

Whoops, clicked the wrong fix after a typo. Don't distract from the point that taco bell isn't food and if it was, it would be Mexican

[–]bored_man_child -1 points0 points ago

defiantly works better. don't fix what isn't broken. Taco Bell is rebelliously not food.

[–]rasputine 0 points1 point ago

"Taco bell, I want food!"

"Fuck you chalupa."

[–]lasermancer -1 points0 points ago

At least 60% food!

[–]nrepay 3 points4 points ago

El Molcajete in Belvidere, a few minutes from Rockford but the burritos are to die for.

[–]Uses_Nouns_as_Verbs 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for the tip. I will check that out. The name certainly bodes well.

[–]scyther1 3 points4 points ago

as much as i enjoy taco bell......what the actual fuck.......

[–]Uses_Nouns_as_Verbs 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, it's not really Mexican food. It's kind of like it's own food group. Delicious (especially the Dorito Loco tacos - where was this idea when I was a kid?), but not Mexican.

[–]scyther1 0 points1 point ago

yah the first time i got anything besides a taco was when i got a $5...i died from overdose of deliciousness...and baja blast no words

[–]mikeMODESTO 1 point2 points ago

Gotta go to Beef-A-Roo instead. I'm from Minnesota and my sister and bro-in-law lived in Rockford for several years. God I miss Wing-Ding at the Rockford Speedway. Much love for Rockford and Machesney Park.

[–]espifer 3 points4 points ago

I am from this Rockford... Now in Milwaukee (8 yrs).

Lino's Pizza is good but John's Pizza on 11th St. and Pino's Pizza on Main St. is better...

[–]spagnitz 3 points4 points ago

there are at least 100 Mexican restaurants within a 5 mile radius of here

[–]spagnitz 0 points1 point ago

and I hate Mexican food

[–]januszeal 3 points4 points ago

I like that you broke this into two posts for some reason, but I am only upvoting one of them, because Mexican food is the shit.

[–]spagnitz 1 point2 points ago

well it's an allusion to the duality of comedy, in essence I am my own comedic foil, ex spagnitz is the straight man and spagnitz is the funny man, it's really quite simple

[–]bearvivant 2 points3 points ago

I fucking hate Rockford. I used to have to go there for Jehovah's Witness conventions. Easily the most boring city I've ever been to. The highlight was a fucking Quizno's.

[–]Tramontana 2 points3 points ago

It isn't boring when you head over to the West side with some KFC.

[–]clumaho 1 point2 points ago

and the strip clubs.

[–]Prosperity 2 points3 points ago

Come to Naperville for some El Burrito Loco!

[–]Ogrik 2 points3 points ago

I've lived in Rockford for 5 years... I miss civilization. =/

[–]electrodrop 3 points4 points ago

[–]Enoch84 0 points1 point ago

You know what I don't get? People that grew up in Rockford, legitimately think it is the best town ever. How can you literally live less than 2 hours away from one of the greatest cities in the world ( Chicago) and think that?

[–]the_hd_easter 2 points3 points ago

Which Rockford? Illinois?

[–]jd3302 1 point2 points ago

Taco bell is delicious. Suck upon my genitals.

[–]Fast2Move 5 points6 points ago

That is sad.

[–]slutuin 2 points3 points ago

still better than mexican food in North Dakota!

[–]Uses_Nouns_as_Verbs 2 points3 points ago

Both sides of my family are originally from North Dakota, so I can confirm this. Taco John's potato ole's are a sin against god and nature.

[–]MegNrox 2 points3 points ago

Fiesta Cancun! Los Reales!.... wtf rockford...

[–]nurfbat 1 point2 points ago

i know, love these places.

[–]Uses_Nouns_as_Verbs 1 point2 points ago

Fiesta Cancun is pretty lousy Mexican food. My in-laws eat there and I went with them. I was not impressed.

[–]bgarlick 2 points3 points ago

I am so sorry man, good Mexican food is probably one of the few NICE things about my town, thanks for making me thankful for what I have.

[–]Pheeshy 2 points3 points ago

Seriously, being in a place with a lot of hispanics, you get some kick-ass Mexican food. I've had "Mexican" food in other states and have been thoroughly disappointed.

[–]Pykoh 1 point2 points ago

Where do you live?

[–]bgarlick 1 point2 points ago

Columbus Indiana. A boring town, just fancy architecture, factories, corn fields and good Mexican food.

[–]Nanite 2 points3 points ago

My parents once took some friends of their's to a Taco Bell that had just opened. This was one of the first Taco Bells in Connecticut, and most people there (late 1970s) had never had Mexican food before. They went through the drive through and my parents handed back a few burritos to their friends who were sitting in the back seat. Soon they started complaining that the burritos were not very good, and wondering why anyone would eat these things. My parents looked back and realized that they were eating the burritos with the wrapper still on it, and had no idea that they were eating paper.

[–]teusz16 2 points3 points ago

Did they vote on 4/20?

[–]element3media -1 points0 points ago

move. there are lots of town.

[–]ucecatcher 1 point2 points ago

That's democracy for you. Still better than any alternative we've got so far.

[–]HotSauceInTheEye 1 point2 points ago

Ha. That's where my hubby is from.

[–]Uses_Nouns_as_Verbs 1 point2 points ago

My wife's parents live in Rockford so I have been there a lot. Sadly, there really isn't a decent Mexican restaurant in town.

Now Chicago, on the other hand, has the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been to (Topolobampo), and I am from California so that is saying something.

[–]Danroulette 1 point2 points ago

It must be like my town... only "mexican"

[–]rayhem 1 point2 points ago

I remember seeing one of those shady dentists that offer extremely cheap crowns, dentures, etc...Anyway on their billboard it said they were voted "#1 office in the state*" and in the disclaimer section at the bottom

*As voted by our staff

[–]itryanditryanditry 1 point2 points ago

Now imagine living in a town near by where if you want to do or buy anything related to civilization you have to go to Rockford to find it. Jesus Christ on a bicycle I want out of here. Oh and Beef-a-roo FTW!

[–]dsn0wman 1 point2 points ago

I am guessing Rockford is somewhere far away from the Southwest.

[–]sushixxxxx 1 point2 points ago

Let them eat their chimichilangagorditas. Meanwhile, I'll be in San Diego eating this:

http://s3-media3.ak.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/S792umZF-kJl1EGmZsilhA/l.jpg

I bet Rockford has kick-ass Chinese buffets though!

[–]solzhen -1 points0 points ago

You have to go to Southern California for really good Mexican food.

[–]Oldasdirt 0 points1 point ago

My parents are both buried in Rockford, all four Grandparents too. They actually grew up in Winnebago. I've been a few times, but I'm much happier to visit the memories my parents had of growing up there in the 20's and 30's than I would ever be with today's Rockford, I'm sure.

[–]pedrobcruz7 0 points1 point ago

ROFL !

[–]otac0n 1 point2 points ago

I love Taco Bell. I would probably be one of the people that voted for it. I'm not, since I don't live there, but I would.

[–]Dunknugget 0 points1 point ago

its the only mexican you can afford after property taxes.

[–]burgabunz 0 points1 point ago

Similiar issue: every year View Magazine (free paper circulated in most large Ontario cities, possibly elsewhere) has a viewer's poll for the best restaurants/services etc.

Every city I live in has voted for Mandarin as best Chinese Food, Staples as best Office Supply store etc. I want to know about the local shops, not the damn franchises!

[–]KuraiTsuki 0 points1 point ago

Grew up in Rockford, now live in Iowa. I was just in Rockford this past weekend visiting my parents. Glad I missed this sign. Ugh. So glad to be out of there.

[–]analog_roam 0 points1 point ago

Why stop at the town? I hate the whole state and I'm only in it 8ish days a month.

[–]NevermoreNeverless 0 points1 point ago

Well it's Rockford, so makes total sense! Different standards.

[–]nunyah 0 points1 point ago

Move to Texas. Immediately.

[–]publius4 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, I hate it when people like restaurants that I don't care for.

The nerve!

[–]ipna 0 points1 point ago

Yup, seems about right... hate this area

[–]Enoch84 0 points1 point ago

Man I used to live in rockford. I fucking hate that town. I'm glad I didn't grow up there. Everyone's fucking illiterate.

[–]WizzardLevelEcon 1 point2 points ago

come to western Kansas, we got actual Mexican food on every street corner

[–]cheezgear 1 point2 points ago

In my hometown McDonalds won the award for Best Coffee.

[–]Seraph781 1 point2 points ago

Rockford actually has a morning news program sponsored by McDonald's Coffee.

[–]5c0779373 0 points1 point ago

I cannot, in good conscience, upvote this.

[–]SourCreamWater 0 points1 point ago

As a San Diegan, I am so, so sorry.

[–]mrcloudies 0 points1 point ago

My town has about 150 restaurants, about 6 of those are Mexican restaurants.

May be a small selection compared to the Asian, Mediterranean, Italian, French and pub restaurants we have, but they're very good Mexican joints.

I live in a big foodie area. (Northwest Michigan actually)
