      I was at a bar once in Arcata, CA, a very small college town. There are like five bars in town, on the square all in a row. Cops would regularly walk through the bars, just scoping the scene.

      One night it's crowded and two cops get bottled over for a second when some guy sitting down decides it'd be funny to lightly touch one of the cop's gun.

      Cop felt it and the dude got hauled out of there real fast. I was drunk and had no interest in getting a drunk and disorderly for being on the sidewalk, but from what everyone else said that guy went straight to jail.

        My friend is a Sheriff's deputy. A few of us went to visit his small town one time so he took us out at night drinking.

        After a bar or two he spots a uniformed officer standing on the street corner talking to some tourists. He says "that's a rookie over there, he's a dork, watch this".

        We watched nervously as my friend sneaks up to the side of the other deputy and puts his hand on the top of the gun holster and yelled "boo!". The poor guy is startled really bad, but his reactions are good. He puts his own palm on top of the gun to hold it in the holster, and back pedals quickly about 5 steps. Meanwhile one of the female tourists flips out.

        The uniformed deputy quickly goes from an "OMG" to the "you got me again, ass hole" face. You could tell this was a common occurrence.

        I knew a cop who let us try to take his gun out of the holster, It is very difficult, they are locked in in a way that is hard to undo unless you are taught how and have the right angle.

          Absolutely. If you take a cop's gun, (or attempt to take it...) you have just presented yourself as a threat with intent to cause grievous bodily harm/death, then (s)he is LEGALLY justified in using whatever force necessary to remove it from you/prevent you from getting it.

          This typically would mean you are going to get fucked up badly, including dead.

          My cousin told me a story about his friend who was so drunk he cold cocked a police officer in the face. The cop had a huge smile on his face, and then proceeded to beat the shit out of the kid.

          Same story, except; A friend of mine was drinking in a car (17 years old) with 3 other people. Cop comes up, asks everyone to step out. Friend (whose Father is a beast of a man, so I can see where he gets it from) punches the officer right in the jaw and knocks him out cold. My friend got away, initially. One of the girls in the car ratted him out because "They were gonna charge me with assault! durr I'm a fucking idiot who doesn't know police scare people into confessions." I still love hearing that story from him.

          I got the sarcasm about 5 words in. The cop was doing his job. The girl knew what she was doing hanging out with teenagers and drinking in a car. She could have kept her mouth shut and got cited for underage and that would have been it. Instead she ratted him out hoping they'd go easy on her which is just fucking retarded and insane.

                  The holster I had couldn't be "picked" like that. In order to pull the gun from the holster you had to press it inwards toward yourself in order for the gun to come out. You'd expect all police officers to have something like that.

                  Probably. I'm pretty sure a police officer's weapon would be locked into his holster. It's gonna take more than 2 fingers on the grip of the gun to pull it out.

                  If by locked you mean a single snap attaching a small strap of lever. It wouldn't be very effective if a gun was locked into a holster.

                  That looks like a Safariland Triple Break holster. Will require hitting two releases (index finger and thumb simultaneously) then rocking the weapon itself to a vertical position before it can be removed, then only straight up. Very difficult if not near impossible to release from the angle shown. Good way to get your hand/arm broken though.

                  Well the officer whose gun you just took would probably attempt to retrieve it using as much force as necessary. And unless you plan on upping your assault charge to a murder charge you aren't going to be doing anything at all. And you're gonna get beat up pretty badly for your troubles. It's a lose/lose.
