Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

For the source, click here! -- lonelywolf2 at deviantart.com . The Norway set is lovely, but the Iceland set is pretty cool, too.

[–]pooprscooper 8 points9 points ago

My favourite shot of Norway

Looks like a great place to go and reflect on life.

[–]aronotrigger 3 points4 points ago

Yea, no.. You see, Ikea's swedish. Norway is not the capitol of Sweden, as some people like to believe. The more you know!

[–]ItWillBeMine 0 points1 point ago

Hrm. Haven't seen this for, say, 3 days.

[–]sturle 1 point2 points ago

I am so tired of this shit!

[–]LurkyMcLurkinson 14 points15 points ago

False, been there in summer.. they only have grey skies.

[–]Yogpod 12 points13 points ago

Agreed, and I live there.

[–]Chippohippo 2 points3 points ago

I disagree! I traveled through Oslo, Hamar, Bergen, and Sogndal (sp?) this summer for a week and it was shorts and t-shirt weather! Sunny and 80 fahrenheit!

[–]JustDandy 8 points9 points ago

If you go anywhere in Norway and it's t shirt weather for a week you can consider yourself lucky lol

[–]Sortech -3 points-2 points ago

You might've crossed over the border to Sweden at some point.

[–]lergnom 4 points5 points ago

Yeah, because Sweden is a veritable tropical motherfucking paradise.

[–]gladoseatcake 2 points3 points ago

No, but due to the mountains that pretty makes up the border Norway catches a lot of the rain from the Atlantic before it reaches Sweden and Finland. Not that it has made any difference in the last two years though... summers has been horrible and winters long (except for the awesome late summer this year).

[–]vsOLID 2 points3 points ago

You were lucky.

[–]Opium_War_victim 3 points4 points ago

That IS IT. I am selling my house in US and move to Norway.

[–]tom957 3 points4 points ago

With the money you have from that you could afford to buy groceries for a few months in Norway.

Just sayin'

[–]gladoseatcake 0 points1 point ago

Except pizza and cigarettes.

[–]Paul_Lazzaro 5 points6 points ago

It's so pretty there during their one pleasant month per year!

[–]Bokstavkjeks 3 points4 points ago

Hahahaha, month!

That is just precious!

[–]Rauthuell 1 point2 points ago

Spot on! But seriously, it's not even one pleasant month..

[–]Fallingdamage 4 points5 points ago

thanks, I needed a new wallpaper.

[–]QuasarsRcool 1 point2 points ago

you have a small monitor

[–]Sortech 1 point2 points ago

It's not the size that matters, it's how you use it. Right guys? Guys?

[–]MonkeyRoyal 2 points3 points ago

Does the Norway Tourist board spam Reddit with these (gorgeous) photos? There must be a pic of the Norway countryside on here every 2nd day. Actually just realised that Norway Tourist board wouldn't have a spam account, it would be a troll account. Ha! I make joke.

[–]panders2reddit 1 point2 points ago

ARE YOU REFERENCING THE NORWEGIAN FILM "TROLLJEGEREN", ALSO KNOWN AS "TROLL HUNTER"?

[–]MonkeyRoyal 1 point2 points ago

Yes! I finally watched it last week. I liked it.

[–]BatTitties 1 point2 points ago

How cool would that look under the Northern Lights?

[–]The_Norwegian 5 points6 points ago

Ain't much northern lights in Hjelle (where this picture is taken).

[–]thirtythr33 2 points3 points ago

Stop ruining our fantasies.

[–]taetimeh 3 points4 points ago

Probably need to go further north for that, unless you are talking about trees.

(The more you know: mainland Norway has a length of approximately 2 500 kilometers or 1 553 miles)

[–]oystn 1 point2 points ago

It would look pretty dark, I guess.

[–]johnsmcjohn 1 point2 points ago

This is what my version of Heaven looks like.

[–]whileyouwereliving 1 point2 points ago

I want to be there so badly that my stomach hurts a little.

[–]wiggie2gone 1 point2 points ago

Hopefully will be visiting Nittedal this summer. These pics of Norway are giving me pretty good idea what Norway looks like. I believe this since the internet never lies.

[–]I-WILL-RAPE-YOU 2 points3 points ago

Nittedal is not much like this photo, but Oslo has really pretty fjords. Why are you visiting Nittedal in perticular? Born and raised nittedøling.

[–]wiggie2gone 0 points1 point ago

I have a sister-in-law there. Haven't met any of my nephews that they have. So we are planning a trip to visit Nittedal and surrounding areas.

[–]I-WILL-RAPE-YOU 0 points1 point ago

Only 30 minutes with the train to Oslo. The woods here in Nittedal are beautiful though. Have a nice trip!

[–]brokenguitarstring 0 points1 point ago

I feel so compelled to piss on the edge and see if the ripples would reach the other side...

[–]infinitevariables 0 points1 point ago

Whereabouts in Norway is this?

[–]SurpriseButtSexer 0 points1 point ago

Hjelle. There is a B&B run by a English couple near there. I'm going next summer.

[–]nyanmeow 1 point2 points ago

It's pictures like this that make me wonder why my great-grandparents left Norway to settle in North Dakota and eventually filter into Ohio. Was it really that bad in Norway at the turn of the 19th century? Or was America perceived to be that much greater? And to think I could have not only lived in a beautful place but I would know several languages, have universal healthcare, and no student loan debt.

[–]Visovari 1 point2 points ago

Because Norway used to be poor as shit

[–]Alkzn 0 points1 point ago

You would still have student loan debt. But it's still a pretty good place to live.

[–]nyanmeow 0 points1 point ago

I thought higher education was already paid for by taxes over there, so long as you were smart enough..?

[–]Bokstavkjeks 0 points1 point ago

Well, there's expenses for books, living, rent, etc.

[–]absolutelynothing 0 points1 point ago

It is, but you need some food and a place to stay.. Most of us do anyway.

[–]WorkingNinj 0 points1 point ago

you pay a small fee each semester depending on the school I'd say around 4-500 NOK. But you still need money for rent and food, this is where the student dept comes from.

[–]SuperSpaze 1 point2 points ago

Norway, Ireland, Albania and to a lesser degree Portugal were dirt poor throughout the 19th and most of the 20th century. Absolutely destitute compared to most other european nations. Starvation, lack of jobs, no real income, no real social mobility, a cultural and technological backwater. If there is one place to live in the world from about 1870 to 1970 it is without a doubt the US. You guys had a pretty good scam going for quite some time.

[–]Niqulaz -1 points0 points ago

Also worth mentioning for the period prior to 1950:

  • Agriculture consisted of more manual labour, as tractors were not widespread at all.
  • Good soil for farming is sparse in most parts of the country, except for the inner parts of Østlandet. Even if you could break land, the soil still used to be quite inferior compared to pretty much anywhere else in Europe.
  • That's not really helped by the lack of sunlight, which is rather important for growing just about anything. Up north summers are short, out west summers are notoriously wet. Which is why most people farming for sustenance, still had to be fishers as well.
  • Fishing, and especially when it's done for the sake of staying alive rather than out of leisure ever so often on the weekends, can be quite dangerous. There are a thousand ways to kill yourself during winter, in a small boat in shitty weather in Norway.
  • Out in the rural areas, you did have access to a doctor, in the nearest town, quite a distance away.

Infant mortality was high. As was mortality after infancy. My late grandmother had three siblings who survived to old age. She started out with eight. But you were almost half-expected to loose a good few along the way. One died from illness, one was lost at sea during fishing, one died while logging, and two went to sea as part of the merchant marine during the war, and didn't come back. And her generation was at the watershed when a whole lot of western civilization caught up with parts of Norway, leading to industrialization, leaps in medicine and so on.

I know jack shit about my great grandfather's generation. The church-books for the area where he lived were burnt by the Germans, so anything not remembered and written down after 1945 is lost to the ages.

So it's really no wonder people decided to GTFO.

[–]tpman9393 0 points1 point ago

How the fuck do they get to their boats?

[–]nicolaimy 6 points7 points ago

There is a rope underwater going from the orange balls floating which is mounted to the mainland. So when you want your boat you pull the rope and reel your boat in. Its to protect it from waves and storm, so it doesnt get smashed up by the dock.

Source: I am norwegian and have had a boat docking like this.

[–]tpman9393 0 points1 point ago

Perfect answer, thanks.

[–]frenkymerlin 0 points1 point ago

How many days in a year is it sunny there like in this photo? 2-3 out of 365?

[–]TomatosauceTheMessia 0 points1 point ago

It might look cool, but it also looks freaking cold at the same time.

[–]hickgorilla 0 points1 point ago

[–]Fallhemor09 1 point2 points ago

Slartibartfast is good at his job.

[–]Bokstavkjeks 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, it can get uncomfortably hot in Norway (90F+).

[–]TomSwirly -2 points-1 points ago

After seeing this photo a bunch o' times here, and nothing else from the same country, my theory is that the whole place is a huge mall/construction zone, but they've preserved just this one view to suck the tourists in.

[–]ninjaface -2 points-1 points ago

So no matter how many times this shows up you guys will upvote it? Hmm...

[–]SpiderDice -1 points0 points ago

Downvote. Seen this posted here wayy too many times.
