That homeless guy is dressed in DERELICTE

[–]thehiveminded 44 points45 points ago

came here to make DERELICTE comment... saw this post. All i can say is you can Derelicte my balls!

[–]musicalsteve 13 points14 points ago

I can derelicte my own balls, thank you very much.

[–]paulderev -2 points-1 points ago

Go on...

[–]paulderev -2 points-1 points ago

Oh, Madison Ave

[–]UberDrive -1 points0 points ago

Mercer Street in Soho, actually.

[–]paulderev -2 points-1 points ago

That was what I typed first. Shoulda gone with my gut.

[–]whiskeytango55Prospect Heights 0 points1 point ago

They actually had a Derelicte Show too.

It was in Brooklyn, done ironically (the cool kind, not the douchey kind), and sounded fun.

[–]paulderev -1 points0 points ago

OMG that sound hilarious.

Still I'd be reluctant to go cuz I'd feel like it's kinda making fun of homeless ppl :(

Yes, I'm a guilty PC liberal :( x 10

[–]ohv 9 points10 points ago

I work right near there and see that guy ALL the time. He doesn't seem to beg and is always at least that filthy.

I once watched him drop a handful of dollars on a windy day. It was the least reaction I've ever seen from a human being to losing money, just calmly puttered after them. A hotdog stand guy helped him gather it all up (I would have but was far away and it was over quickly). Odd.

[–]electrickp0ny -1 points0 points ago

I loved your (tag) you added for safety from the NYC trolls looking to give you a bad time :)

[–]slipstream37 -1 points0 points ago

Do you work to the 'right' of this picture, because I work there too!

[–]ohv -1 points0 points ago

nah a few blocks away but I step out of the subway to the right every day. you're in 4penn or the stagedoor cafe? haha

It was hilarious to see a place as I scroll along reddit that I see every single weekday. twice.

[–]MediocreJerk 10 points11 points ago

Ain't that the truth

[–]GeruvahUpper East Side 15 points16 points ago

Those girls likely don't even live here anyway.

[–]theruins 42 points43 points ago

No one lives in NYC, they only die.

[–]GingerbreadmancanProspect Heights 9 points10 points ago

mmm, preach it sister.

[–]drewbic 13 points14 points ago

yes, they do. They are all in the fashion industry. Stylist, publicist and publicist from left to right. And on the far right is Linda Fargo, head buyer for Bergdorf.

[–]Canuhandleit 1 point2 points ago

Nice! How the fuck did you know that?

[–]drewbic 1 point2 points ago

I'm a photographer who shoots Fashion Week every season. The industry is fairly small, meaning you see the same several hundred people over and over.

[–]electrickp0ny 3 points4 points ago

We live in New York, duh. I mean, like, anyone who's anyone in NYC knows that...

/s

[–]AlphaHotel_94 3 points4 points ago

I tried to click the arrows on the sides...

[–]R88SHUNLower East Side 2 points3 points ago

Juxtaposition.

[–]daned 10 points11 points ago

[–]paulderev -1 points0 points ago

This is one of the most brilliant bits Cross has ever done. Good call linking this.

[–]AhoffNYCUpper East Side 8 points9 points ago

Reminds me of Louie

[–]CatfishRadiator 0 points1 point ago

That skit is seriously my favorite depiction of the New York Subway from any show or movie. So surreal.

[–]Dawggoneit 7 points8 points ago

Nothing screams Fashion Week like the Post Office!

[–]almondmilk 1 point2 points ago

Only one of these people would stand out in a crowd.

[–]qdpb 19 points20 points ago

Wait! Is that a homeless man next to models? That's deep!

[–]snoharm 11 points12 points ago

They're not models, just girls showing up to fashion week. Conspicuous consumption is deeper than professional advertisers.

I mean, it's still not deep. But deeper than that.

[–]potatoliciousMidtown -2 points-1 points ago

Now we just need a black and white shot where a single tear rolls down the homeless man's face, falls off his cheek. Cut to a close-up slow-motion shot of the ground as the tear hits the ground.

Where's my Oscar?

[–]wroteit 0 points1 point ago

He's a trend setter. By that mean, in few years, those chicks will think he had it better...

[–]emkayL 0 points1 point ago

hey, i see this guy all the time on the penn downtown CE platform

[–]pujuma 0 points1 point ago

they couldn't smell him i guess ?

[–]keethantom 0 points1 point ago

Haha at my driver in the background.

[–]booblebumOzone Park 0 points1 point ago

That's basically what all of Manhattan looks like to me. It's everywhere.

>I think it's the juxtaposition that is the issue. They don't appear to >be posing with him, it's just a coincidence.

[–]sometimesimweird 5 points6 points ago

This picture upsets me.

Edit: Not sure why I am getting downvoted by being upset by a picture of models next to a homeless person, but okay.

[–]Ody523 2 points3 points ago

If those women are models, then I'm Brad Pitt.

[–]Noel_S_JytemotivUpper West Side -2 points-1 points ago

Why?

Non models are used in shoots all the time.

[–]SirDerpingtonThe3rdBillyburg 4 points5 points ago

Who let that hipster in the frame?

[–]joculatorQueens 2 points3 points ago

Says it all.

[–]bexpert 2 points3 points ago

Did anyone else try to click the arrow on the side of the image?

[–]PincushionAffairRidgewood 3 points4 points ago

Sums up Manhattan pretty well, I'd say

[–]caamando -1 points0 points ago

Damn, this recession has really hit Santa hard. :/

[–]SteveUrkeljerk -1 points0 points ago

This has the making of a wonderful pornographic film.

[–]BearLeft -1 points0 points ago

good ol NY

[–]ClayburnSunnyside -1 points0 points ago

[–]reddit-culous 1 point2 points ago

I know that homeless guy. He hangs out in 1 Penn Plaza park across from MSG and the Farely Main post office on 34th and 8th. The post office is in the backgroung in the picture.

[–]mporco511 1 point2 points ago

i see this guy all the time - smells really bad

[–]electrickp0ny -2 points-1 points ago

...ly

[–]JAILBOTJAILBOT 0 points1 point ago

Wrong, would-be Grammar Nazi. Adding "ly" would make "bad" an adverb, indicating that the man has a poor sense of smell. That could also be true, but it seems like a dumb thing to get all uppity about.

[–]petroleumnasbyManhattan -1 points0 points ago

...and an Iggy Pop photobomb (looking fabu in his Klaus Nomi smock & open toe heels)

[–]neerdowell -1 points0 points ago

Can anyone give me the credits for this picture? I'm doing a thesis on urban inequality, and I can't remember a picture that illustrates it as viscerally as this one does.

[–]Wicked223Brooklyn 0 points1 point ago

New York City in a thousand words.

[–]lancequ01College Point 0 points1 point ago

holy shit i saw the guy on the right( in the black dress, white hair) just last week by my school

[–]Canuhandleit 2 points3 points ago

[–]Elxnder -1 points0 points ago

Guy in the black dress?

[–]lancequ01College Point -2 points-1 points ago

yes "she's" a guy

[–]booblebumOzone Park -1 points0 points ago

It's a small island, yo

[–]CorkyKribler -1 points0 points ago

This is a very powerful photo.

[–]kategardiner -2 points-1 points ago

That girl in the blue dress looks so much better in it than I do. Sigh.

[–]cfern -4 points-3 points ago

It's so hapocratical :/ like dis if u cry evr time

[–]PostPostPostIronicGreenpoint 0 points1 point ago

Who is he wearing?

[–]quest78Jamaica -2 points-1 points ago

I've seen that guy. Always thought he'd make a great photograph one day.

... hipsters?

[–]MrWorms 18 points19 points ago

Every time someone writes the word "hipster" on reddit you can just mentally add "PS I live in the suburbs" to the end of their post.

[–]Scarsdale_Vibe 6 points7 points ago

It's like yolo. The only time I hear the word is on reddit, and I live in greenpoint!

[–]johnnybluejeansPark Slope 2 points3 points ago

I met a girl on the LIRR with yolo tattooed on her ankle. She was from Jersey.

[–]redCatNYC 1 point2 points ago

I overheard a girl say 'yolo' unironically to a friend on university pl. and 12th st last week. Kids these days...

[–]brancron -1 points0 points ago

Where exactly was it? I'm around there all the time and I'd prefer to avoid forever the square foot of sidewalk above which it was uttered.

[–]qadm -1 points0 points ago

It's like Justin Bieber

[–]standupdouble -1 points0 points ago

i love greenpoint

those of us that were living in shitholes like red hook and greenpoint in the 90's on a budget looked that way out of necessity

Skinny jeans, flannel, and thick rimmed glasses were necessary for survival in the hood?

[–]mullse01 -1 points0 points ago

Yeah man, less denim, less money, you know?

[–]therubberchickenman -1 points0 points ago

lol, we were carpenters, riggers, artists and machinists-- that's the perversion i'm referring to. it was about living a frugal, practical lifestyle- a knit cap to keep your head warm. rolled cigarettes. decent, inexpensive beer. good food from local vendors. i think you get what i mean. when kids that didn't get the why behind what they must have perceived as a 'look', how workign class people dressed became fad. like timberland boots and carhart jackets got co-opted by hip hip back then. and for the record, skinny jeans make no sense on a man.
