Ah I would love to go back and play multiplayer with all my friends back when it came out..

I don't think I'll ever stop missing this game. "Were it so easy".

[–]DTroll 32 points33 points ago

BTB is usually full still!

Sincerely, I returned reach and now i'm lonely

[–]JamesLiptonIcedTea 10 points11 points ago

As someone who hasn't so much as turned on my Xbox since last September, have people really flocked away from Reach?

[–]jezmaster 28 points29 points ago

Reach matchmaking is still busy enough

[–]SMB73 16 points17 points ago

And far, far busier than Halo 3.

[–]DarrowS 8 points9 points ago

hardly ever over 100k most nights top out at 70k players. really bad

[–]JamesLiptonIcedTea 4 points5 points ago

What did it used to be?

I just haven't played in so long, I've forgotten nearly everything. I'll probably have to relearn controls when Halo 4 releases.

[–]Niquey 14 points15 points ago

When Halo 3 was out it still raked in 150-200k on a bad night at two years

[–]StealthNadeStealth Nade 10 points11 points ago

In all fairness there are more GOOD games with a decent online community now, so I expect numbers to be lower

[–]ROFLBRYCE 11 points12 points ago

MW2 kinda wrecked it. When Reach came out, numbers were back cause it was new. Then Black Ops came out and it was "old" again, and boom there goes the 400-600K matchmaking numbers. I hope it doesn't happen again with release dates being so close.

I remember going to my friend's place every day after school to play Halo 3, 5 years ago to this day. Fuck that was fun.

[–]Autoimmunity 10 points11 points ago

You guys need to understand though, Halo used to be the ONLY game people played on XBL. When Cod 4 came out we started seeing the wheels turning, but it took until 2009 for it to really change because WaW sucked.

Halo still has one of the biggest communities out there, it cracks 100k quite a bit, and not many games ever do that. Gears of War 3 is only a year old and it barely gets 30k on a weekend. Halo 3 even beats it out sometimes in matchmaking numbers. So while Halo isn't as big as Cod (because Cod is super easy and has a new game every year on all platforms) it's still a big game.

[–]ColCyclone 13 points14 points ago

I was a really big fan of WaW.

[–]Autoimmunity 5 points6 points ago

I was as well, I meant "sucked" as in that was the average person's opinion on it. The time of the WWII shooter was over, and with Cod 4 and the taste of Modern era, nobody cared for WaW that much.

[–]weatherwar 1 point2 points ago

That was my favorite as well.

[–]YouareInsufficientX507 0 points1 point ago

I don't play Call of Duty.

[–]samsaBEAR 0 points1 point ago

You don't but millions of others do.

[–]jimmyyaesu 2 points3 points ago

I saw that number hit the 7 digit mark a few times in 2008

[–]iDareToDream 1 point2 points ago

On bad nights max 200k. But it was rare. Usually you got a lot more on weeknights even, and weekends? Man it hit 400-500k easily. Didn't matter what playlist you went into, there was always enough people to find a game instantly.

[–]DTroll 15 points16 points ago

Well, considering I don't have the game anymore, I wouldn't know. All I know is, after playing Halo since 2001...Reach was absolutely unplayable, and i ended up selling it for Halo 3's Complete Edition instead

[–]jWalkerFTW 7 points8 points ago

I never understood this. I realize reach was less than desirable, but "unplayable"? Returning the game? Seems like an overreaction

[–]jimmyyaesu 2 points3 points ago

I kinda agree that that is a little rash but they really fucked the mechanics of the game a bit when they added armor abilities. Still a fun game though but I personally find that to be the least appealing Halo so far. Also, Halo 3 looked alot crisper and more vibrant than reach's grainy graphics that are kinda unappealing.

[–]AnUndEadMonk3y 1 point2 points ago

Classic slayer? Anyone? no...ok.

[–]Raidenbobalay 0 points1 point ago

Classic Slayer was all I played because I detested the armor abilities but once my friends all traded the game and I had nobody left to play with I traded it away too.

[–]tmoss726 1 point2 points ago

Yeah there's usually 60k-80k

[–]illuminaytrix 0 points1 point ago

There was 70000 players an hour ago. It's still very much alive.

[–]MasterCactusSS Nash 1 point2 points ago

I play BTB every day, add me?

[–]Sinc0 0 points1 point ago

Sorry for asking, can't recall. BTB?

[–]MasterCactusSS Nash 0 points1 point ago

Big Team Battle.

[–]ductape47 3 points4 points ago

Really? I will gladly play with you if this is true.

[–]jimmyyaesu 3 points4 points ago

everyone in r/halo this weekend on Halo 3 in all playlists. As many people as possible. Sound like a decent idea?

[–]9ninjasxHeadxHunterx11 0 points1 point ago

xHeadxHunterx11 please ad me. Any1 else, feel free

[–]jokrsmagictrick 5 points6 points ago

Damn. that is my favorite quote to this day from the whole series and my life. As much as Master Chief is the man, I always felt The Arbiter was so wise and always had valuable quotes.

[–]somethingred 3 points4 points ago

"were it so easy" - Arbiter..I see what you did there. http://i.imgur.com/DVu1e.gif

[–]THEsolid85 1 point2 points ago

put the goddamn game in your xbox and play it, then. all you people do on this forum is talk about how much you miss it. you can still get a game on any playlist, so go play if you really want to.

[–]ColCyclone 4 points5 points ago

We talk about missing the experience we had back when it was new. And actually no I can't, for some reason, my halo 3 odst multiplayer disc doesn't load any maps and I have no clue why.

Question for you, why are you getting so butthurt over people talking about a game you have interest for?

[–]jimmyyaesu 7 points8 points ago

ColCyclone is right. Why do people bitch about how they miss Halo 2? Because it was the thing that made us stay up allnight, talked about in school, and had the time of our lives on. As someone who was sort of socially challenged, Halo 2 and Xbox Live opened up a world for me and changed my life forever. The same goes for Halo 3.

[–]DementedHeadcrabmrsaturnjr 1 point2 points ago

I miss halo 3 ;_;

Nothing like that feeling when a complete stranger picks a map you made during custom games. Or playing campaign, legendary, 4 players, all in one sitting, then playing custom games for another 4 hours. Now everyone I played with is onto GoW, mw3, and or else traded in their copys of halo 3.

[–]ColCyclone 0 points1 point ago

It truly is the worst feeling in the world, knowing that people reject the Halo universe

[–]illuminaytrix 0 points1 point ago

I think you need to get out more. I would figure a death the family or a divorce. To each his own I suppose. ;)

[–]FireFoxMcCloudFyreFoxMcCloud 0 points1 point ago

I quit Reach for Halo 3. Every time we go back to play we rage. I can play and get my ass dogged in Halo 3 and come out happy majority of the time.

[–]GadvMike 59 points60 points ago

Halo 3 was the first game I bought for my 360. I will always love this game. So many great memories staying up late playing custom games with friends.

[–]cleaveland_gCleaveTwins 49 points50 points ago

I bought and Xbox FOR Halo 3.

[–]fckjoshsowrongitsjosh 20 points21 points ago

Same here. Would have never invested into a 360 if was not for Halo 3. Long live Halo 3.

[–]I_RAPE_PEOPLE_II 4 points5 points ago

I remember my Dad going to every store in the city looking for Halo 3 on release night, finally coming back with the last copy he could find after hours of searching. With school the next morning I woke up at 04:30 to play the campaign -- I just couldn't wait. Easily one of the best memories of my childhood.

[–]walla515 6 points7 points ago

It's so weird to hear this. I was 17 when it came out. I remember finding out about Halo CE when I was 11 and playing it with my brother on one of his breaks from college.

I then figured out about Xbox Connect (before xbox live this was a way to play xbox online, it pretty much made your xbox think you were lanning but you were connected through XBC on your computer). My friends and I played every day. We made tons of friends. I even remember playing games with Ogre 2 and TSquared on there.

I got so into the game and glitching I started making videos of all the shit we would do in game. I used to frequent many forums and even had my own section on High Impact Halo at one point. I remember feeling so cool when I was the 2nd member to join the site (name was Walla).

Sorry. Just nostalgia'd pretty hard and I'm a bit high, which always makes me talk more. Anyway, yeah, it's weird to hear hear halo 3 and childhood together.

[–]I_RAPE_PEOPLE_II 3 points4 points ago

Everyone always told me I was full of shit when I said that I played Halo:CE online. Thanks.

[–]bobinder22 1 point2 points ago

I used to use two tunneling software programs to play Halo online. The first was XBConnect and the other was XLink Kai. Oh man, the problem was that my computer and Xbox were not in the same room so if I wanted to chat with the people in the game I had to run back and forth from room to room.

[–]Andrew9mb 1 point2 points ago

Oh god, Xlink Kai. The memories of crazy foreigners...

[–]Jayewalk 1 point2 points ago

Probably because they figured you were too busy raping people.

[–]itsjh 3 points4 points ago

I bought an Xbox just to play Call of Duty with my friends, and I bought Halo 3 later because I heard it was pretty good.

So technically, I can thank Call of Duty for introducing me to Halo... lol

[–]Jayewalk 1 point2 points ago

My first job in high school was with the sole purpose of getting an Xbox and Halo 3. Didn't get my next game for another year. Hell, I STILL play H3 more than any other game. The balance and competition is just so freaking solid.

[–]CrazyAuron 1 point2 points ago

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Saw Halo 3 was coming out, so I picked up as many shifts as I could a month prior so that I could afford the Halo 3 Xbox, and then BAM Halo 3. Man, that game was awesome. It essentially brought back all the fun of Halo 2 for me.

[–]ProjectD13X 6 points7 points ago

I think I may have well over 2000 custom games played on that game...

[–]Jakio 1 point2 points ago

I have well over 2000-3000 matchmade games played on that game man, I spent so so much time on it. I miss vanilla halo 3, before TU2 :(

[–]ProjectD13X 6 points7 points ago

TU2...?

[–]Jakio 1 point2 points ago

Title update 2. It's when they introduced EXP into seperate playlists... I hated that, I enjoyed going in with my general stars and being a boss. Whereas I'd have to get hundreds of experience to get that back in every playlist.. I dunno man, guess it was more of an ego thing than it was an accomplishment. I'm a bit of an overachiever when it comes to gaming.

[–]Roobinsky 0 points1 point ago

I had well over 11,000.

[–]Al-Capwn 0 points1 point ago

same here, bro.

[–]jake239 -2 points-1 points ago

Same here bro. Miss those days. Know it's cod =$$$.

[–]MitsosGate13MitsosGate13 35 points36 points ago

hey, the years when halo was the king and call of duty was the competitive opponent...

[–]SnoopyChicken 25 points26 points ago

Fingers crossed Halo 4 tips the scales back the other way!

[–]Fleudian 5 points6 points ago

It will. Just watch.

[–]Paradox 35 points36 points ago

It wont. Halo just doesn't have the bro factor. Its too intellectual

[–]Fleudian 3 points4 points ago

The campaign definitely is too complicated for most CoD players to enjoy. That's what I like about Halo, and it's why I enjoyed 3 and Reach the most. The story is the important part. Yeah, it's cool to have a streamlined, balanced matchmaking system and all that, but the story is what makes it unique and truly awesome.

[–]Paradox 6 points7 points ago

Personally I hated reach for this same reason. Reach threw out all the campaign and structure from the previous halos, saving ODST, for a formula campaign with no significant events, no connections between portions of the story, and characters that came out of every scifi trop everywhere.

[–]Fleudian 6 points7 points ago

Okay. I liked it because it was totally different, and I'm a huge fan of a straight up war story with heroes fighting against impossible odds. I felt like Hector, Aeneas, Sarpedon, Paris, and all the rest, fighting to defend Troy, even when I know all is lost, and the enemy will surely crush us. I just looked at it as a totally different story, and as a piece of the Master Chief origin story.

[–]Paradox 5 points6 points ago

I had read every other piece of halo lore to date, and the way it retconned some things really pissed me off. Little things, such as PoA being on the planet (PoA was not rated for atmosphere!) to big things such as the Halsey-Cortana origin bullshit

[–]K2TheM -1 points0 points ago

Reach has on OK campaign, but it just starts and ends on bad notes. The opening and closing missions are really weak (I consider the PoA mission to be the final mission and Lone Wolf to be part of the credit sequence). If you remove those and just play from Sword Base through New Alexandria (and maybe The Package) it's actually a decent story.

[–]MitsosGate13MitsosGate13 -2 points-1 points ago

Bungie did a huge mistake, it copied some elements from cod, probably because microsoft asked them to and the whole campaign experience was inadequate.. At least, they've made a very good game engine and as far as I know, Halo 4 will be using that. And it looks stunning! It's up to 343i to revive the glory of the old Halos and their team is capable to so

[–]samsaBEAR 0 points1 point ago

There's no foreseeable way that any FPS can beat the latest COD in sheer sales and player base. Activision have ensnared that casual gaming market perfectly, I'd love to play Halo 4 online with my buddies, but none of them like it because 'it doesn't have killstreaks, you can't aim down sights, etc etc'.

Games like Gears and Halo are games where you have to play to get better at, yeah you may have bad and awesome days, but generally speaking if you have been playing longer and more skilled, you will win nine times out of ten. On the other hand, COD is designed for anyone with half a brain cell and basic motor functions to play, being constantly rewarded with killstreaks/new unlocks keeps you playing in a game where literally anything can happen.

[–]machete404 13 points14 points ago

Halo 3 is the reason why I own a 360, and it's why I play games. I love this game.

[–]SoloIsTheRightWayDestructiveHope 13 points14 points ago

Everyone, let's all play this game today and repopulate the servers!

[–]3poundshit 4 points5 points ago

Occupy Halo 3!

[–]PoK3R_FaC3DPoK3R FaC3D 23 points24 points ago

The only reason I bought a 360. Such a great game. Happy Birthday Halo 3!

[–]buyaccount 2 points3 points ago

Same! To think I almost bought a Wii instead for Red Steel...

[–]drunkenmonkie2 10 points11 points ago

Five years. Five long years. That's how long ago we thought we had finished the fight.

[–]Talonspyre 10 points11 points ago

So many good memories with this game. My favorite of those memories has to be when Halo 3 came out, I was living with 3 of my friends. We all had our own XBox, and we played the 4 player campaign on Legendary.

[–]NYR513 7 points8 points ago

I remember getting up at 6:30 AM like it was Christmas morning and waking my mom up to drive us to Gamestop. Having my friends stay over and playing split screen matchmaking and customs until we were too tired to stay awake. At that time it was easy to make lasting friends on Live. The whole recon armor craze, all the Easter eggs and glitches, the funny post game arguments where you can't get a word in because every one is yelling at each other. When Halo 3 came out, it became the cool game to have. Whether you liked it or not, most people had a copy of of it, much like COD today. This game is most likely one of the best games to ever hit the shelves, and I doubt I'll be as excited for another game as I was with Halo 3 again.

[–]aftrunnerDecadentmercy 20 points21 points ago

God tier!

Even the Cortana level cant drag down what is the best FPS campaign of this gen.

Thank you Bungle. <3

[–]brofistin 7 points8 points ago

upvote for "Bungle"

[–]Grant638 1 point2 points ago

[–]shadowofmeadowShadowofMeadow 6 points7 points ago

I loved the Cortana level. It was impossible to hate anything about that game.

[–]Mansonmansonmanson 13 points14 points ago

First video game I ever played. I owe my entire gaming experience to this one game.

[–]P4LE_HORSE 10 points11 points ago

First one EVER?? I suddenly feel very very old.

[–]manaiish 12 points13 points ago

No, he's just very young

[–]Mansonmansonmanson 1 point2 points ago

A bit in between.

[–]manaiish 1 point2 points ago

How old are you?

[–]ewic 18 points19 points ago

Looks like there's a lotta love for this game, but I always felt that H3 was the weakest of the Halos. Maybe I'm just an old man, but I had much more fun with H2 and H1. I actually felt pretty good about reach because it felt very H2-like, but nothing beats the original.

[–]mongerty 10 points11 points ago

I remember when the community hated 3 and only wanted 2 back. The Rose tinted glasses are strong, or all of these posters are way young.

Hell, I remember when 2 was supposedly terrible and it was CE or bust for a huge section of the community. Nostalgia affects everything, and even Reach will be remembered fondly at some point.

[–]WhyZen 20 points21 points ago

When Halo 2 was fully patched and in full swing in mid/late 2005, I think that was easily the most fun I've ever had on Xbox Live (to this day). But Halo 3 is a close second. The ranked matchmaking, jumps, tricks, tactics, grenades, maps, playlists and the overall competitive cut-throat vibe was just so addictive. I also loved how gameplay styles and tactics evolved from month to month.

I never got in to Reach. I gave it my best shot, achieving Brig Grade 1, with over 7000 games, but it just didn't grab me like Halo 3. I didn't much like the colorless forge maps, I didn't like the lack of a decent ranking system, and the whole social/guest/casual vibe of matchmaking didn't keep my attention for more than a few months. It wasn't a bad game, but it just wasn't to my liking.

Halo 2 MP>Halo 3 MP> CE MP>Reach MP

I'm hoping Halo 4 can reignite my passion for Halo Multiplayer. And I hope it has something in there for Reach fans too, because at the end of the day Halo is for all Halo fans - not just old fuddy duddy Halo 2/3 fans like me.

[–]FisherKing22Chiii Penguin 3 points4 points ago

I agree with you 100%. I've never had more fun playing a game than I did with Halo 2. I got so incredibly engrossed in the competitive matchmaking- once they cracked down on modders/bridgers. Reaching level 44 actually felt like a real accomplishment as opposed to the much easier ranking systems of halo 3 and halo reach. With that being said, however, Halo 3 introduced a lot of new stuff that, I think, will stick around in the Halo franchise for a long time.

[–]DrumstickVT 1 point2 points ago

44 O.o I remember low 30's being difficult. High 30's was absurd. Anybody over that I assumed was bridging.

[–]FisherKing22Chiii Penguin 0 points1 point ago

I boosted in TS to get a 44, but that was before the reset. I also had a completely legit 39 in snipers and a 42 in rumble put. I played entirely too much haha

[–]IveGotaGoldChain 1 point2 points ago

Loved 2. I miss bxr bxb and double/quad shots:(

[–]deuterosAtomicThumbs 0 points1 point ago

I felt like Halo 3's story was the weakest. Halo 2 was my favorite campaign. I don't care what anyone says.

[–]ForeverDownvoted 9 points10 points ago

It's been 5 years already. Goddamn where has the time gone. The feels...

[–]playsultimate 15 points16 points ago

These comments show how young the r/halo community really is. It sounds pretty ignorant to say this is the best game when you're also saying its your first.

[–]tivo17 10 points11 points ago

My thoughts exactly. I expect Combat Evolved or Halo 2(my favorite) to be the best Halo game.

[–]Vongman 5 points6 points ago

I agree; while CE was great fun for killing my buddies.... Halo 2 was what really solidified it for me. Absolutely amazing online play.

[–]Facade1228lFacade 1 point2 points ago

I just love all the Halo games :D I've been playing CE since I was the ripe age of 7 when it first came out.

[–]fireinthesky7 0 points1 point ago

CE: Anniversary was so freaking good, especially since I fully expected it to be a sucky remake with major changes.

[–]HoLyyyy 4 points5 points ago

I agree with this if it was your first I don't think you can have an opinion, because you guys didn't play the other games in their prime.

[–]YawnSpawner 2 points3 points ago

Halo 2 wins if you've played them all, the multiplayer was awesome and untainted. Halo 3 was good, but equipment changed the fights considerably and then armor abilities changed it even more.

[–]Accidentus 0 points1 point ago

Lanning Halo CE > all. Halo CE was released in 2001. So say you were 14 or 15 at the time of release, you'd have to be at least 24-25 years old minimum to remember Halo CE in it's prime. I would guess 90% of the subreddit is younger than that.

[–]ProjectD13X 1 point2 points ago

I don't know if I can say it's the best game ever but I can say it's my favorite. Certainly wasn't my first game though, I started out gaming on the N64

[–]buddahman 17 points18 points ago

I really didn't think H3 was all that good compared to CE and H2. Let alone one of the best ever made. I'm prepared for the nukes, just wanted to say what I thought.

[–]B_Boudreaux2 11 points12 points ago

Halo 2 was revolutionary. Nothing they could've done to be up to par with H2. But hey Halo 3 was fun... would play it (online) over reach any day.

[–]djloredditDJ Hawkes 1 point2 points ago

and it was great for the story

[–]theubernoobmadmanmathews1[!] 0 points1 point ago

At least 3 was still a lot of fun and a suitable replacement. I've tried to get reach to grow on me, but it just doesn't happen.

[–]LiverhawkN7 2 points3 points ago

Progression should be : H:CE H3 then H2. The ending for H2 soured the whole experience for me.

[–]sinamor 1 point2 points ago

I sorta feel the same way. H3 wasn't bad by any means, but it just couldn't stack up to the first two Halos. Halo CE sold the Xbox and Halo 2 sold Xbox Live. They were both juggernauts, and, by the time H3 had come out, there was plenty of competition out there or on the rise just in the 360 market alone (Gears and CoD).

[–]ace_boogie 4 points5 points ago

Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, and the first Gears. That was the peak of Live. It's been downhill since then.

[–]Drink_Clorox_and_Die 7 points8 points ago

How many of you ditched reach to go back to this to get ready for halo 4? I'm starting it up again tonight. Send me an invite and lets play. Thatwhichuhate is my gamertag.

[–]mahi29 0 points1 point ago

Haha, I've just started playing H3 again. I forgot how much fun and exhilarating it was to 4-shot someone again. When H3 was in full-swing me and my friends would have 5-10 hour marathons on TS/Doubles. I miss those days.

[–]joshmccrillis 18 points19 points ago

THE best. IMHO

[–]messer 3 points4 points ago

I was still of the opinion that Halo was for 'brogamers' when this came out, but when I found out that it comes with an instant replay feature I got off my ass and purchased it. After playing the game for an hour I realized that 95% of Halo hate was superficial and that I have just happened upon a goldmine of gaming.

Can't wait for 4.

[–]MiniPenguino 4 points5 points ago

Funny how at the time, everybody shit on Halo 3. "The BR doesn't work" "WTF why does it have spread?" "Too much lag in this game!" "The sword is overpowered!" "Fucking campers everywhere"

[–]trompete 3 points4 points ago

That just sounds like gamers on the internet on any given day.

[–]tubabacon 6 points7 points ago

Ah, the most anticipated night of my young life. I was a college freshmen, and the month leading up to this me and my friends while passing each other in the halls would simply nod and say "Halo 3!" in the days leading up to launch.

The night of the midnight launch we wait in line for hours, playing games with the workers from the local gamestop while listening to the Halo 2 soundtrack. We finally get in, I pay for my game and grasp the metal casing of my limited edition. My friends and I each race home, I pound the power button on my 360 and immediately look down to my glorious case. I take the wrapping off, pull off the sleeve, take the unblemished disk out of the casing and go to put it in....

To see my 360 flashing 3 red rings. I was devastated. I had spent a solid year pumping myself up about this game to not be able to play it (on my own console at least) until a month later. Worst case of blue balls ever.

[–]Facade1228lFacade 5 points6 points ago

I go back to me running to my mom's car after school telling her "go go go go" back in 8th grade, I said "Don't worry about the fifth graders, just run em' over, we get new ones every year!" "Billy! Don't say stuff like that" was her reply, I still remember to this day. After the short drive to the gamestop I'm now employed by. I excitingly bring my Mom into the store, and asked for the Halo 3 Legendary edition I saved my allowance for. After taking out the trash, washing the dishes, walking the dog and getting good grades since the middle of seventh grade, when I heard of Halo 3. I walk into the store, and the GA who is now my manager said "We ran out of Legendary editions! Sorry" to which I replied "You don't get away with messing with a man's Halo". He chuckled, did the usual 'do you allow your son to get an m rated game, it has shooting blah blah' that I now do. It got home and excitedly ran up to my Xbox 360 and packed it up. Tonight, I play on the 60 inch tv. I brought it into the guest room above the garage and unpacked the xbox. I plugged everything in, and it was all good to go. As I heard the Gregorian chant I was practically hopping with excitement. When I got to the menu I didn't know what to do. Finish the fight? Hop into multiplayer, and start owning noobs? Check out forge? I was practically over whelmed. I went the campaign route I played the campaign through to the level Tsavo Highway. Then my best friend got his copy in the mail. We played team slayer and BTB until dawn the next day. Literally. I fell asleep in Mrs. Leach's math class the next day, and when she woke me up with a ruler strike on my desk, and asked while I was asleep, I looked over at my sleepy friend EJ, and simply said "Halo...3". Next thing I remember was waking up in the principals office, explaining to my fairly young principal, Mr. Sperazo, that I fell asleep from playing Halo 3 last night. He actually understood, because he called in sick on Sept. 25 to play the game for 24 hours straight! We talked Halo for 20 minutes before he let me go back to class. I can say, that while I didn't go to the midnight launch, I have damn fond memories of the release of Halo 3. Sorry for the wall of text guys, but when I saw this thread I just started typing, and didn't stop.

[–]xCITRUSx 0 points1 point ago

BEST PRINCIPAL EVER!!

[–]Facade1228lFacade 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, he's a great guy. He was early 30's by the time 3 came out, he said he played a lot of Halo at college.

[–]thunderwolfomega 2 points3 points ago

I thought i was the only one who saw sept 25 as a halo holiday

[–]NocturnalPleasure 2 points3 points ago

Best. Game. Ever.

[–]bokimble 2 points3 points ago

I still play Halo 3 multiplayer a few nights a week online with my buddies. There's a decent amt. of people still playing, and game play is and always will be topnotch. Greatest Halo game ever.

[–]SeriousMoad 2 points3 points ago

I remember the night my uncle died, I brought this over to my cousin's house and we played for like 10 hours until he got sleepy the next morning. I knew the dude wasn't going to sleep. My cousin and I were never too big on expressing emotion to each other and we never had too much in common, but one thing that held us together, and still does today, is video games. Both of us have had some pretty shit deals in life, but when we get on this or Battlefield 3 or whatever game we decide to take on together, we're a force to be reckoned with. We've got each others' backs even hundreds of miles away. Whatever, just sharing. Thanks.

[–]WhereWaldoWas -2 points-1 points ago

TL;DR: Uncle died, repressed sadness by shooting aliens in face.

[–]Facade1228lFacade 1 point2 points ago

Hey man, when my Uncle Rick passed away in 2009 I played Halo 3 with my cousins and dad for a whole day. We did it to bond.

[–]HoLyyyy 1 point2 points ago

This was the best. No question.

[–]BadBrothers2012 1 point2 points ago

I remember getting off my bus and awaiting my legendary edition when I walked through the door, good times

[–]aledog 1 point2 points ago

amen

[–]wedgewood_perfectos 1 point2 points ago

i remember how hyped i was over this.

[–]Fleudian 1 point2 points ago

IMO, this game had the best storyline of all of them. Before the release of 4, I'm going to go back and play the campaign through on 1, 2, and 3 on Heroic, just to get ready. Looking forward to this one the most.

[–]bichiliad 1 point2 points ago

Wow, Halo 3 is 5 years old already? I still remember playing the original Halo in my friend's basement. There'd be four or five of us and we'd use his projector and have awesome multiplayer games. Naturally, he'd wreck our shit because he owned an xbox and we didn't.

[–]one4jj 1 point2 points ago

I hope a Halo 2 vs Halo 3, nostalgia, karma fight breaks out, this sub just might explode...

[–]ShoTaRA 1 point2 points ago

i got my 360 because of this game and this was the only game I had for it for a while, and my internet was bad at the time but i really wanted to play matchmaking so i'd go online play parts of games then disconnect, leading to around -200 xp... eventually it got fixed but i still had tonnes of negative exp so on teams in voice chat people would always be like "LOL Recruit scrub we're gonna lose" then because i've played so much i always beat their silly assuming asses... good times

[–]ltnite 0 points1 point ago

I still remember that midnight release, one of the best I've ever been to. This game is just so amazing, and I still play it regularly with a friend of mine, it will never get old for me, it's just so damn good.

[–]OneFinalEffortAlzode 1 point2 points ago

Stop reminiscing and get your asses on Halo 3! I can't find a damn match!

[–]THEsolid85 1 point2 points ago

Anyone who wants to celebrate, or gear up for Halo 4...we're still here. /r/halo3players or add me on XBL: THEsolid85

[–]EndDrugAndOtherWars 1 point2 points ago

Social Slayer still has 4-5k at a time playing You can find a match pretty easily. I played yesterday.

[–]chaotiiic 0 points1 point ago

even though that game was a downgrade from halo 2, its still a shit ton better than halo reach.

[–]Apollo7Taktical Pinata 0 points1 point ago

Were it so easy.

[–]WhereWaldoWas -1 points0 points ago

For a second, I thought to myself, "Are people here actually agreeing this is one of the best games ever?"

And then I realized I was on the Halo sub.

[–]Dark_Vulture83 0 points1 point ago

And still not on PC.

[–]Nilo27 2 points3 points ago

ah, halo 2 will always be the best halo imo

[–]WARSinRIOTS 0 points1 point ago

My favorite game of all time...So many memories. Good, bad, and downright amazing. I still miss the times I had on Halo 3 nearly every day. The game changed my life and my opinion on video games.

Happy birthday you glorious bastard.

[–]James311 0 points1 point ago

I feel bad for the people who've only ever gotten the chance to play halo3 or later online.

[–]PileOfClothes 1 point2 points ago

Holy shit 5 years... Time really does fly.

It also struck me really bad when halo: reach hit it's 2nd anniversery this year, had thought it was only one then I was like WHAAAAAA-

Not long till halo 5 is out and we're looking back at halo 4 thinking damn how good this was online haha!

[–]iiSaviour 0 points1 point ago

I wouldn't say one of the best video games ever.

[–]ZigZagLagger 0 points1 point ago

WOOP WOOP! HAPPY BIRTHDAY HALO 3!

[–]Grant638 0 points1 point ago

What's with those ellipses?

[–]Lytoclolreach 1 point2 points ago

7000+ games, Fuck I miss it...

[–]Baykey123 0 points1 point ago

My fav game of all time

[–]Connor6 0 points1 point ago

One of my favourite games. :)

[–]ElMayordomo 0 points1 point ago

Hard to believe it's already been five years (almost a third of my 16-year-old life). I remember standing in line for it at the local gamestop. My first midnight launch ever.

Nostalgia everywhere.

[–]theweatheruphereKristoba 0 points1 point ago

Wow, I was 16 when I got Halo 3 on launch. That's crazy, time seems to have flown by so fast.

[–]klanus 0 points1 point ago

I bought a pc just for halo 1 and and xbox 360 to play halo 3 and reach. I had to do alot of shit to play halo 2 on windows xp thanks to modders and stuff but i only did enough to do the campaign

[–]shifty_coder 1 point2 points ago

That means that 90% of the people who play this game turned 13 this year.

[–]kirk27 0 points1 point ago

Agreed!

[–]MyYodaBeHighAsFuck -1 points0 points ago

<3

[–]Conor419Conor 419 -1 points0 points ago

Game of the generation, FPS of the century.

[–]CHAMPANERIA 0 points1 point ago

stood in line and remember it like yesterday. Got free swag too.

[–]DavidJFarrar 0 points1 point ago

went online and played Halo3 MP. Had more fun than can remember having while playing Reach in current memory

[–]wildtaco 0 points1 point ago

Halo 3 was amazing and definitely stands out to me as far as the series goes, but I'll always remember playing Halo: CE at the launch party, jaw dropped, seeing exactly where video games were going. One of the games that essentially allowed the Xbox to succeed, paving the way for the Xbox 360 and Halo as the juggernaut franchise it is today.

[–]DrLogic 0 points1 point ago

And on that Christmas, my favorite days of gaming were born and 2 years later it slowly began to die off.

[–]Mansonmansonmanson 0 points1 point ago

Mid way through high school.

[–]shazam432 0 points1 point ago

i have every limited editon for halo apart from halo wars money well spent

[–]radiumxxx 0 points1 point ago

I sold my H3 a little after Reach... Just bought it again last week to get ready for H4 :)

Fuck Reach, piece of shit game

[–]Dekanuva 0 points1 point ago

Best game ever.

[–]EmperorofKingsWaiting for Halo 4 0 points1 point ago

I love Halo, and will be getting H4 Limited this Nov. I remember playing H3 campaign for hours with my bro when we would put our money together to rent it from blockbuster. I was 11 at the time, and holy hell that was fun!

[–]Lunarios 0 points1 point ago

All hail

[–]radius55 0 points1 point ago

You know, coincidentally, I started replaying this campaign today in preparation for Halo 4. I didn't even remember it was the anniversary until you reminded me.

[–]deuterosAtomicThumbs 0 points1 point ago

Vidmaster: Annual (along with Endure and Deja Vu in ODST) was one of the best times I've ever had in online gaming. I'd love to see Halo 4 have something similar.

[–]MrTuddlesKefwi 0 points1 point ago

I remember my cousin brought it over for us to play. Easy difficulty was really hard for us at the time, but we had a lot of fun. He forgot to take it home and I built things in forge and I tried to get some more missions done. The very next day, my mom got me halo 3 as a gift (since she saw that I really liked it). To this day, halo 3 matchmaking is still the best matchmaking experiences Ive ever had. Made a lot of friends too. Something that most games today don't seem to be encouraging.

[–]Reaper505 1 point2 points ago

This game was the sole reason I bought an Xbox 360, best game ever!

[–]mahi29 0 points1 point ago

Just started playing again. Came home tipsy/drunk one night and decided I wanted to play. Created a new gamertag/account and fired up Halo 3 for the first time in years. So much fun. I love not dealing w/ bloom and armor lock and what not. And games are still reasonably fast to find. A few minutes tops. Maybe I can get that brigadier rank that so eluded me when I played this a lot a few years ago.

[–]littleGringo 0 points1 point ago

HALO 2

[–]dannyboy15 0 points1 point ago

Damn. That long?

[–]salty_john 0 points1 point ago

I midnight released the game and after closing my store i went to Gamestop to pick up my copy and raced home to play. My roommate was there laughing at me because he was a sports gamer and never played online shooter...he thought they were lame. He watched me play two games signed in as a guest played a couple matches and created an xbl account we didn't stop playing for years until we moved away with work...we still play that game often to catch up.

[–]NimbleeNimblee 0 points1 point ago

Halo 2 was still the best, with clans and the amount of customs. H3 was amazing too though.

[–]Dasey_Cunbar 1 point2 points ago

Five years from now people won't be saying this about Reach.

[–]kinofpumps 0 points1 point ago

My friends and I still get together about twice a year to just play halo 3, watch movies and eat pizza all night. Been doing it for years, and it's always been Halo 3. Such a good game.

[–]Big_E33 0 points1 point ago

everyone who says they "miss" h3 realizes there is nothing that can stop you from playing it right?

you have the right to miss h2, not halo 3

[–]chris10023Chris10023 0 points1 point ago

Just got done playing the campaign again to celebrate

[–]Freezing_Balls 0 points1 point ago

Still waiting for this to come out on PC.

LET US PC USERS FINISH THE FIGHT

[–]ductape47 1 point2 points ago

I miss the 1-50 ranking system so much. Encouraging skill instead of pointless credit gathering that awards everyone all the time for every game for no particular reason.

[–]ninjarxa -2 points-1 points ago

That's not Halo 2.

[–]Paradox 0 points1 point ago

Been playing Halo since CE days. 3 is still the best

[–]Piff_Daddy -2 points-1 points ago

Oh you waited an hour for a game ? Let me match you up against the kid who will embarrass the shit outta you

[–]conman577 0 points1 point ago

You must be 12.
