More appropriate title would've been, "You're god damn right."

Op is Gomie.

Nothing wrong with Dexter (if we only look at the first few seasons), but between these two shows there is no choice at all. you couldn't pay me to rewatch everything after trinity on dexter, and even the season before that was meh.

1,2, and 4 were great. The rest were not.

[–]avickthur 0 points1 point ago

The most recent season has been the worst so far.

[–]Ub3rpwnag3 0 points1 point ago

I thought season 5 was the worst. Season 6 wasn't much better in my opinion though.

I'll be honest I watched Dexter for a bit. It was the first TV Drama I found myself actually able to enjoy.

After the Season with John Lithgow it took a downhill leap REALLY quickly. It started to feel like Lost, in the sense that the writers were continuing it for no reason.

Another aspect that bothered me was that Season 1 was all about detail. The careful planning and the perspective of a serial killer who also lives as a blood splatter analyst. It was fascinating. In later Seasons however, Dexter is breaking in houses without gloves, strangling people on the beach, killing people in truck stop bathrooms.

The writing just became EXTREMELY lazy. And it really is unfortunate because the premise of Dexter is a very interesting concept and I feel that it actually can relate to Breaking Bad in a real way.

Essentially both shows push the viewer to question morality and what it means as well as where they stand.

Dexter is a Serial Killer, but he only kills people that 'deserve to die'. Harry trained Dexter how to kill, but he was cop, and was only doing what he thought was right for a child with murderous tendencies.

So on so on.

However this is EVERY character on Breaking Bad and the ways that they interact are simply incredible.

Ultimately Breaking Bad showed up Dexter in every way imaginable.

I do however plan to watch Season 7 of Dexter, but with very low expectations and only as a temporary fix until Breaking Bad comes back ;D

did you ever consider that the recklessness of dexter in the later seasons may have been intended to show how he is losing control?

[–]Colostomy 5 points6 points ago

That's exactly how I interpreted it and that's exactly what's happening. It's not lazy writing at all. Dexter is slowly developing feelings and thought that are getting in the way of his usual behaviour. His relationship with Rita and the kids, Rita's death, Lithgow's family, his moments of breaking the code are all disrupting his perfect routines and it's the only way the show could ever move forward and not become stale.

While it makes sense for him to "fall down a slippery slope", aside from some of the things you mentioned, hes not just acting like theres no consequences, hes acting like he knows theres no consequences. at one point, he sends a video, OF HIMSELF to a wanted murderers phone. What if they suddenly caught him? theyd be awfully confused why the guy had a video of dexter threatening him on his phone. stuff like that just pulls me out of the show and has me rolling my eyes

[–]Colostomy 0 points1 point ago

Sorry, which murderer are you talking about there? I can't remember that happening, everything about Dexter blended together in my mind after watching Breaking Bad.

But yeah, you're right. At times it feels like Dexter just washes over consequences. It reminded me of Drangonball Z. In Dragonball Z, a lot of actions had little tension, because whatever happened they could use the power of the Dragonballs to reverse the bad things. With Dexter, whatever happens, he knows he can get out of it with simple manipulation or as a result of the incompetence of his coworkers.

When he was the "false prophet" with travis

[–]malevolent_mooseA little tweak of chemistry 0 points1 point ago

I still love the show. But I would like for them to blend Dexter's desire to kill with his personality a bit more. I wouldn't mind a scene showing him killing La Guerta or Quinn, only to show that it was just a daydream. I feel there's too much of a clear line between his desire for murder and him restricting himself to killing bad people.

[–]Zalamander 0 points1 point ago

I loved the show all the way trough season 4. Season 5 was OK, if not a bit lazy. Season 6 lost me after 2 episodes. I think it was the scene of chasing a bleeding perp while spraying luminal that had my eyes rolling and made me give up.

If we were rating Dexter before season 5 against BB before season 3, I'd say there is a close fight. But it's no contest now.

[–]Jambz 0 points1 point ago

That's funny, I actually found that chase scene to be the most exciting moment they had that season (season 5). It did pick up a bit after that, but it felt like they just went with the easiest ending they could possibly think of - everything works out and nothing outside what you expected happened. But, consistent with you and everyone else, it was a fun show through 4 seasons, but the shows formula has been getting old the past 2 seasons - Dexter questions himself, targets some big baddie, finds someone he can confide in, takes out big baddie, forced to break relationship with the one he confided in, feels he's resolved something about himself, repeat.

[–]molten_mushroom -4 points-3 points ago

i personally think Dexter is way better than breaking bad but i still love breaking bad. this last season of breaking bad is been so horrible so far and i feel that none of the seasons of Dexter have been as bad as this last season of breaking bad.

[–]Lampmonster1 1 point2 points ago

I like Dexter and all, but not even fucking close.

[–]jackedup388 3 points4 points ago

i would have either. neither show finished yet, so being the first to see the unseen episodes before everyone else... let's just say i would do what the main character does in the show.

which show? yes

[–]stasz92 0 points1 point ago

I'm surprised it was that close.

[–]TrevDoggeh -1 points0 points ago

I would rather have dexter, because i've already seen breaking bad...

[–]grimlobster 1 point2 points ago

I would rather have dexter, because I already own the first four breaking bad blu rays...

[–]ID10T_er 0 points1 point ago

I started to get into dexter, it was a pretty good show. But due to HBO's Showtime's bitching its not on instant stream anymore so after season 2 i found myself to the greatness that is breaking bad

[–]ErikaeBatayz 1 point2 points ago

What does HBO have to do with this?

[–]ID10T_er -2 points-1 points ago

fuck me, showtime.....see how little fucks I give about the show anymore?

[–]Relient-J 1 point2 points ago

YOU'RE GOD DAMN RIGHT

[–]jcbneunerI won 1 point2 points ago

[–]Scubetrolis 0 points1 point ago

i love breaking bad, but i think that dexters best seasons were better than breaking bads best seasons....dexter has 2 really bad seasons though.

[–]hooizyooWalt's a scientist. Scientists love lasers. 0 points1 point ago

Dexter was my favorite show for the first two seasons, and season 4 was also great, but Breaking Bad has been consistently great and gotten progressively better with each season. That being said, I'm pretty psyched for the new season of Dexter. I just think they should have cut the entire series down to about four or five seasons total. Basically cut out all of the fat.

[–]Canadia86Do you really want to live in a world without Coca-Cola? -1 points0 points ago

Well, a third of Dexter is complete garbage, so yeah, I guess BB. But they do both have the same amount of good (complete) seasons.

[–]der1xWipe on this 0 points1 point ago

I need both. Anyone care to donate?

[–]ch4dr0x 0 points1 point ago

To those who are saying "I can't believe it's even that close!"... you have either never seen Dexter or forgot about the three awesome seasons that show has had. In the end, Breaking Bad still wins for me.

[–]AndrewChenevert 1 point2 points ago

Dexter is to Breaking bad what a Michael Bay film is to a Martin Scorsese film.

[–]jethroboom 0 points1 point ago

I'll just leave this here . . . the Dexter books (6 of them so far) are insanely better than the show . . . Breaking Bad is far superior to Dexter.

[–]cursed_deity -2 points-1 points ago

id pick Dexter for shure!
