Not sure if anyone is watching this Packers Seahawks game, but shit's getting out of control

[–]normanthesquid 51 points52 points ago

Good lord, this ending is a comedy. Slash tragedy. Tramedy.

[–]The_Abe_Froman[S] 21 points22 points ago

What's that restaurant with the goofy shit all over the walls??

[–]stniesen 32 points33 points ago

You mean Shenanigans? You're talking about Shenanigans, right?

[–]CushCush91 22 points23 points ago

I swear to god, I'll pistol whip the next guy that says Shenanigans.

[–]shanahanigans 91 points92 points ago

[–]___Redditor___ 4 points5 points ago

Hey Farva what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy shit on the walls and the mozzarella sticks?

[–]uhmerikin 3 points4 points ago

[–]Brohanwashere 11 points12 points ago

Shenanigans. Bring it.

[–]the_dehumidifier77 11 points12 points ago

[–]xStimorolx 6 points7 points ago

It annoys me "Guys" is capitalized..

[–]kjevo 2 points3 points ago

So Guys apparently this Guy doesn't like that sort of stuff.

[–]xStimorolx 0 points1 point ago

Cringe

[–]RepublicofTim 0 points1 point ago

It's a freaking calamity, wrapped in a travesty, and sprinkled in irony!

[–]HowsItBeenBen 0 points1 point ago

It's a traveshamockery

[–]SeepingGoatse 2 points3 points ago

That sounds like a black persons name.

[–]PatAunces 0 points1 point ago

What happened with the refs now? I wasn't able to watch the game, but I saw what was going on sunday during various games with them.

[–]cdlight62 4 points5 points ago

Its complete garbage. I'm gunna have to stop watching games for a little while because I don't think I've ever raged so hard at a game in my life.

edit, sorry for the shitty quality: Seahawks obviously have full control of the ball. Not to mention the blatant pass interference right before the catch. Good fucking job refs. http://i.imgur.com/hOrH7.jpg

[–]Ugbrog 1 point2 points ago

You mean Packers have full control?

[–]wabbajackoff 2 points3 points ago

...no. it was written like that on purpose.

[–]cdlight62 1 point2 points ago

I tried to make the sarcasm pretty obvious

[–]wabbajackoff 0 points1 point ago

Valiant effort. I just tried harder to be oblivious. Gotta get at it, son. I just wanted it more.

[–]Unclecavemanwasabear 0 points1 point ago

Dear god yes. Ugh.

[–]Pour 0 points1 point ago

Yes, yes I fucking did. Fuck.

[–]Packers91 0 points1 point ago

sob

[–]NonViolentWar 0 points1 point ago

Ok, I have been out of the country for 2 years. Where can I see this clusterfuckery?

[–]MaceFace2 0 points1 point ago

Not as much as the next ravens game is going to be Full out brawl one play and no flags

[–]PastyPilgrim 0 points1 point ago

I thought the Pats / Ravens game was bad enough, but they've almost outdone themselves :'(

[–]NavyDavie 1 point2 points ago

Nearly cost me my fantasy matchup. Thank god I picked up Andre Brown off the wavier wire earlier this week. Bro saved my back.

[–]OceanOG 38 points39 points ago

So will that be a yellow card or red?

[–]J_LaP 50 points51 points ago

I believe in this case they just take away everyone's green cards.

[–]skyman724 3 points4 points ago

ರ◡ರ

[–]JakeCameraAction 0 points1 point ago

Where the shit are your eyes?

[–]skyman724 0 points1 point ago

That is an eye.

I think you mean where are the . .

[–]colloquialism86 11 points12 points ago

Red. There will also be a 5 minute major for slashing, and a game misconduct.

[–]newtothelyte 11 points12 points ago

Fuck. Now the Seahawks are going to have to hit a homerun to bring all the goals in.

[–]ninrod 8 points9 points ago

That, or sink a bogie.

[–]NFL_Replacement_Ref 1 point2 points ago

Hey ... you really know your rules ... you uh need a job?

[–]AnorexicBuddha 53 points54 points ago

I loved the stadium wide "Bullshit!" chant in the ravens game.

[–]ChrisSal 17 points18 points ago

You could hear that from Virginia.

[–]mgh245 6 points7 points ago

As a Virginian and a Redskins fan I can't help but admire our foulmouthed, crab-slinging, Charm City neighbors to the north.

[–]Moonstrife 0 points1 point ago

As a Charm City resident, I accept your admiration.

[–]arbitraryentry 83 points84 points ago

When reddit starts actually caring about football, you know the refs are bad.

It's like hearing people talk shit about cricket in Omaha, Nebraska.

[–]danrennt98 20 points21 points ago

This is the first thing about sports I've ever seen on Advice Animals.

[–]ffca 9 points10 points ago

You must not have been here during the Olympics.

[–]danrennt98 10 points11 points ago

well, I mean seasonal sports

[–]Aneurin 2 points3 points ago

I definitely thought you were talking about the phone service at first. I live in Omaha and I can confirm that the Cricket phone service is terrible.

Cricket the sport however, I can't speak to. Though I did see some highlights from a game and the stadium looked pretty empty. Must've been a shitty game.

[–]samlincoln 3 points4 points ago

Reddit has a strong anti-sports (esp American football) hivemind from what I've seen. Somehow video games are a more valid diversion. Why not both?

EDIT: we'll I'm actually seeing a lot of posts tonight about this whole ref thing. I might be wrong.

[–]ForrestFireDW 6 points7 points ago

I wouldn't say reddit has an anti football hivemind at all. Once NFL season is in effect you see how many people love football on this site.

[–]samlincoln 0 points1 point ago

True, I'm wrong because I made a generalization. There are some who like and others who don't. but the hand-egg and scoreball parodies and people saying that big sporting events are a waste of time, resources and national attention has been mostly what ive seen in my time here.

[–]pizzlewizzle 0 points1 point ago

Maybe in the US night time when it's daytime for all the European posters.

[–]jeremy203 3 points4 points ago

That's why NFL game threads get 1000's of comments?

[–]dehydratedpink 2 points3 points ago

Is that why i didn't see anything about the olympics? the anti-american sports thing is how every sport championship makes us the "world champs" at that sport.

[–]samlincoln 0 points1 point ago

Yep. Some subs are okay but this isn't a good place to go for good sports talk. I'm on /r/ chemistry way more than /r/nfl, reddit is pretty good for most other topics.

[–]scorpion347 0 points1 point ago

I think it's just the name a lot of reddit has a problem with. Same with us not being metric. It's becuase we confuse the rest of the world with our words.

[–]sousamagoose 11 points12 points ago

[–]Z_Z_T 12 points13 points ago

Yeah.... I know some of these words.

[–]Disco_Drew 4 points5 points ago

I'm still waiting on a roughing the passer call on the punter.

[–]J_LaP 2 points3 points ago

But Denard 'Armpunt' Robinson isn't in the NFL?

[–]ReplaceSelect 0 points1 point ago

1:55 mark

That's pretty solid as well.

[–]kaiden333 4 points5 points ago

Can someone explain to me what happened to the refs? did they go on strike or something?

[–]zmilla93 5 points6 points ago

Basically their union cannot agree on a deal with the NFL, so they had to put in replacement referees. These replacements are blowing huge calls and causing massive controversy.

[–]kaiden333 1 point2 points ago

Thanks.

[–]JakeCameraAction 1 point2 points ago

This is why the word Clusterfuck was coined.

[–]matt01ss 0 points1 point ago

Lockout from league because of money dispute

[–]duffmanhb 14 points15 points ago

I feel really bad for these guys. They do have potential to be decent NFL refs, but never had the time to learn from the vets or get any experience on the field.

They are the most hated people in football right now, aside from you-know-who, and I can't help but feel bad for them. It's not their fault. They are under a ton of pressure, with no experience at this level. They are probably really feeling terrible right now about this, when it's not really their fault for being thrown in head first.

[–]ErichAlfredHartman 10 points11 points ago

yeah one is actually from the Lingerie football league, the rest are high school and D3 ones

[–]duffmanhb 7 points8 points ago

I think there are some D2 guys in there as well. But what would you do? You ref some low division schools and the NFL comes up and says, "Hey want to live out your dream as being an NFL ref?" Of course you say yes. Who wouldn't?! Now they are the most hated people in their favorite sport. They tried hard, I'm sure, but they just aren't trained enough for it. It's terrible, and I can't help but feel for them.

[–]ErichAlfredHartman 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I mean I really do feel for them, I'm a packers fan but I don't blame the refs as much as I do the NFL owners for locking the trained experienced refs out

[–]centuren 4 points5 points ago

Woah, woah, let's keep the bigger picture in mind. Of course, it's their fault -- they're scabs. They've made that choice, which is ethically dubious (at best) to begin with. Now they're doing an apparently terrible job on top of that, and people are rightly upset with them.

[–]duffmanhb 4 points5 points ago

Read my other comment. What would you do if you were a ref in a low level area and the NFL came up to you willing to fulfill your dream of reffing a professional game? It's hard to say no to that.

[–]centuren 5 points6 points ago

The difficulty of a decision doesn't alleviate responsibility for the consequences. Hard to say no or not, they are still scabs, and still screwing things up. I'm not saying management isn't to blame for creating the situation, but I can't feel bad for these refs. They are willingly in this situation, and they are the ones making the mistakes. As I see it, they've absolutely earned the ire directed at them.

[–]makhouse 12 points13 points ago

If this happened at Lambeau field, it would have burned. Thank science it was in Seattle

[–]kamkazemoose 10 points11 points ago

If it was at Lambeau, it would have been an interception. It seems that the refs are intimidated. The coaches and fans have been bullying them around, and they are making the calls that don't get them booed or yelled at.

[–]Motherfuckeredeemer 9 points10 points ago

This is honestly the best observation about the replacement officials.

[–]rriikkuu 0 points1 point ago

I've refereed soccer games and I'm pretty sure it's impossible to not get yelled at. You can never please both teams.

[–]TheOccasionalTachyon 9 points10 points ago

Yeah. I doubt the refs would have made it out of Lambeau alive.

[–]newtothelyte 1 point2 points ago

No shit it would've gone bad because the call was against the Packers.

If it happened at Lambeau and the call went for the Packers, the same reaction would've happened.

[–]HowsItBeenBen 3 points4 points ago

No No No... It's clearly a two-line pass. There should be a 1 stroke penalty, the offending player is sent to the penalty box for a 5 minute major while the runner is advanced to 2nd base...

Duhh.

[–]BroquinPhoenix 2 points3 points ago

As a 'Skins fan, the last 7 seconds of the game against the Bengals made me want to rape the refs with a lamp. How a false start penalty is 20 yards is beyond me

[–]DamianTD 0 points1 point ago

Sounds like my girlfriend after trying to teach her sports.

[–]football2106 3 points4 points ago

Haha yea, girlfriend...

[–]Splanky222 1 point2 points ago

Don't just complain, do something about it! NFL fan boycott next Sunday!

[–]coreyplus 0 points1 point ago

People need to make a lot of noise about how ruined the NFL product is and that they're leaving it until the regular refs come back. Your wallet is a powerful force of nature.

[–]whiskey_nick 1 point2 points ago

Football, and its fans aren't going anywhere. A boycott won't work (it never has).

[–]LooksLikeNicolasCage 0 points1 point ago

Can someone explain to me the recent burst in referee memes, I'm not sure what's going on or if there was some recent change in the game.

[–]dehydratedpink 4 points5 points ago

normal refs our out on strike or something, so we have new refrees that aren't as good.

[–]avcue 3 points4 points ago

Understatement.

[–]matt01ss 3 points4 points ago

Lockout, not strike

[–]dehydratedpink 1 point2 points ago

whoops. My bad

[–]magic_is_might 3 points4 points ago

Our real refs are on strike, with the NFL refusing to meet their demands. NFL hires a bunch of replacement/scab refs who do not know what the hell they are doing.

They screwed the Packers, my team, out of a win on the very last play. The Packers intercepted the ball in the endzone, yet they ruled it a Seahawks touchdown. They even reviewed the 'TD' and confirmed it. This play is the epitome of how shitty these scab refs are and how poorly the NFL is handling it.

[–]mtheory007 2 points3 points ago

Not on strike. They were locked out.

[–]magic_is_might 0 points1 point ago

You are correct, I misused the word.

[–]pizzlewizzle 0 points1 point ago

Hello, how's it going under that rock?

[–]buckfurpees 2 points3 points ago

Well there's your problem. John McCain is the ref.

[–]my_tactless_opinion 2 points3 points ago

What's really frustrating is when a player or coach bitches about a call and then they throw a flag...they're reffing scared out there

[–]skyman724 2 points3 points ago

UMPIRE BRIBE WAS REFUSED. STRIKE, NO WALK.

PROCEED WITH 7TH INNING GROPE

[–]Compupaq 0 points1 point ago

Or any other sports for that matter

[–]DrWhiteChocolate 1 point2 points ago

Not to mention the 20 min time out in the Detroit game for no apparent reason.

[–]JayTerbs3 1 point2 points ago

Homerun Grizzlies.

[–]Tybodsm 1 point2 points ago

And they go on a power play for 2 minutes.

[–]The_Abe_Froman[S] 1 point2 points ago

I've watched all the angles, seen all the stills...the only explanation is that he thought the Packers were on offense (not a joke).

The white ref doesn't make a call initially. After walking to the fray, he sees Jennings roll over and gain further possession of the ball. Only after seeing this does he make a touchdown call. I honestly believe he was a DIII ref that got confused in a high intensity moment

[–]matt01ss 1 point2 points ago

I didnt see the game tonight, is there something specific I should lookup on YouTube?

[–]The_Abe_Froman[S] 1 point2 points ago

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oku99s3SBfg

Here's a link for ya...better hurry though, Goodell will have this down within minutes

[–]matt01ss 1 point2 points ago

Just got done watching this:

All I gotta say is, lol

[–]Smoky_Amp 0 points1 point ago

9/24 Never forget.

[–]AttractiveLemon 0 points1 point ago

I've seen these words in other contexts ...

[–]x21in2010x 0 points1 point ago

Phil Lucket was the supervising official. Of COURSE even when the officials are locked out, this guy has to sneak into another controversial game. Isn't it time the NFL just banned this dude for being the worst luck?

[–]landzarc 1 point2 points ago

They never really recovered from that 50 DKP minus in the third quarter.

[–]leon_zero 1 point2 points ago

I'm surprised the score wasn't Q to 12 at the end.

[–]acdarc -1 points0 points ago

Could somebody please explain what's this fuss about NFL and referees is about?

[–]ToxicMonkeys -1 points0 points ago

Can someone explain whats happened to someone who doesn't live in the US?

[–]funkless_eck -1 points0 points ago

x-post from /r/scoreball?

[–]burek_japrak 0 points1 point ago

what the fuck am I reading

[–]coreyplus 1 point2 points ago

NUMBERWANG!

[–]darthn3ss 0 points1 point ago

Also, two minutes for high sticking.

[–]LeChatBotte 0 points1 point ago

We've replaced football referees with Calvinball referees. Lets see how long it takes for the players to figure out the rules!

[–]Pamander 0 points1 point ago

What's going on I keep hearing something about nfl and locking people out

[–]Walt_Thizzney 1 point2 points ago

Upon learning that interceptions count as touchdowns now, Brett Favre is coming out of retirement again.

[–]Faint94 0 points1 point ago

what?

[–]senorchaos718 0 points1 point ago

Don't forget to light the pine cone.

[–]NFL_Replacement_Ref -1 points0 points ago

Bullshit, these refs are obviously not using the New Book of Holy Writ!

Obviously the base needs to get moved back half the distance to the shortstop.

[–]usernamegoeshereok 0 points1 point ago

What the fuck does this even mean? It's like a new language.

[–]The_Abe_Froman[S] 0 points1 point ago

For everyone asking where they can see the play in question. Can't guarantee it'll be up for too long.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMJCOEOGYgg&sns=em

[–]TjallingOtter 0 points1 point ago

The thing about Arsenal is that they always try to walk it in.

[–]pwaves13 0 points1 point ago

maybe the nfl is now the NCL(national calvinball league)

[–]MT_work 0 points1 point ago

Don't blame the refs, they're doing the best they can being put in a situation that is over their heads. This should be a scum bag steve NFL.

[–]DnB_Pulse 0 points1 point ago

Every single person from the UK is looking at this and thinking "what the fuck does any of that mean"

[–]Hootentoot 0 points1 point ago

These guys should only officiate Calvinball. Doofuses.

[–]dcgh96 0 points1 point ago

Did I miss something?

[–]Alarmed_Ferret 0 points1 point ago

Jesus. You know you don't know anything about sports when you have no idea which part is the funny part...

[–]iEatIrony 0 points1 point ago

you guys! none of those rules apply to football!

[–]x21in2010x -3 points-2 points ago

So everyone is finally pissed off, because the end of the game was "decided" by the refs.

The last 3 weeks have been an increasing joke by these refs. Make no mistake, I'm not defending the abilities of the replacement refs, and the shove off on the finally hail mary was pretty blatent, but simultaneous possession was not a terrible call at the end.

Watch it again in real time, and convince yourself that it was immediately a pick (mind you, before either player was even down on the ground). Then watch the replay - where, yes, Tate had only one hand on the ball when Jennings got two; however, you also have to consider Jennings flippling the ball end over end in his two hands.

If you look at it quick, in real time, it's very hard to not see this as simultaneous possession. If you review it, 100 times, it's harder to determine if there should be a grey area where more possession should exist AND further determine that it was established. Nothing in the rulebook (all 287 pages) discusses the certain legitimacy of methods of possession over others.

[–]rebar1127 3 points4 points ago

What you fail to see is that Jennings had initial possession of the ball. There was no "tie". This was stated numerous times by the commentators. He had initial possession, Tate tried to fight for it on the ground. It was an interception. If you see otherwise, you must be a Seahawks fan, really drunk, or oblivious as to the rules of football. Or all 3 I guess.

[–]x21in2010x 1 point2 points ago

I'm a Jets fan, I'm dead sober, and have read over 40 pages of the NFL Rule book tonight alone because I was having a debate earlier with a friend about trying to rush a P.A.T. after the Greg Jennings TD that was reversed upon official review (whether a time frame is set for the officials having to place the ball and live the play clock for P.A.T.'s.).

My argument isn't for watching the replay 1,000 times and frame by frame coming to the conclusion that Jennings had possession prior to Tate having two hands on the ball - my argument is that in real time this conclusion was very difficult to determine and so it's not nearly the worst call everyone is clamoring about over these refs.

[–]duffmanhb 1 point2 points ago

These guys don't know the rules well enough. They had to learn it all last minute. To two guys, apparently having your hands on the ball at the same time another guy gains possession is still considered possession. They don't know the details of this rule, it's not that they aren't capable, they just haven't had the time.

I feel terrible for them. They are in a terrible spot.

Also, notice the one ref that called the TD? He was looking over at the other ref... When that ref put his hands up in a TD fashion, the ref also put his hands up in a TD fashion, signalling it, based off what he thought the other guy was doing. Then he looked away, and the other guy started waving his hands, for a touchback.

I just feel bad for them.

[–]x21in2010x -1 points0 points ago

I rarely bitch, or QQ, or cite reddiqite, but considering how much EVERY sports media outlet is using this specific play alone to jump to a whole new level of... well... bitching and QQing about the replacement refs, it'd be nice to receive actual rebuttals or rebukes before being downvoted just because I actually very much studied the actual play, call, and rules themselves.

[–]x21in2010x -2 points-1 points ago

I'll wait till the folks who downvoted me will read the 287 pages of the rulebook, watch the replay again 20 times, and rewatch the play at normal speed for a civil debate about my stance that this wasn't nearly the terrible call everyone is making it out to be.

Surely meatheads drunk assholes civil folks will delivar.

[–]bedabup 4 points5 points ago

Simultaneous possession was never achieved. I don't know how you can watch that replay 1 time to 1000 times and not arrive at that conclusion. The rules also clearly state that once it's established, it can no longer be simultaneous. Green Bay hit the grass with the ball remaining in his possession the entire time.

This completely ignores the fact that the catch was even possible because of some of the most blatant offensive pass interference ever seen, coincidentally unnoticed by the same ref who ruled touchdown as he runs up to the Green Bay player holding the ball with one arm wrapped around outside his arms.

[–]x21in2010x 0 points1 point ago

Prior to delving into discussing the specifics of the catch itself, I already conceded the "blatant shove off." I don't know what other pass interference there was on that play, but I doubt it has any more to do with the four hands I'm trying to discuss.

Watching replay 1-1000 times would, each time, you'd find something more each time. Again, I must reiterate that while Golden Tate has only one hand on the ball, the ball in Jennings hand flips once end over end. When Jennings finally solidifies the balls position in his hands to his chest, Tate has two hands on the ball. It is understandable, in real time, to see this play and be unable to determine prior possession by Jennings.

Official replay after that judgement cannot overturn the call of simultaneous possession, only that considering that call whether the play results in a touchdown.

I enjoyed your condescending post where you accuse me of being a stereotypical internet user (oh noes... uhh through which medium are you debating me again?) and accuse me of trying to be more intelligent than uncited countless professionals. Yea dude, I listened to ESPN radio on the way home too - it's called reaction.

How about ESPN.com giving the immediate report duties to two of their regular bloggers, Sando and Seifert. Only one came to your infallible and most obvious conclusion.

Also, a player who is "down" can still receive a pass. You know, down on the ground. He could literally lie down on the turf and still complete a reception marked where he lies, so don't know where you're going with that.

Finally: the moment Tate gets two hands on the ball and Jennings is still in the air

Addendum: , Asshole.

[–]Aneurin 0 points1 point ago

Are we talking about the offensive pass interference by the Seattle receiver in the end zone during the play? Or some other one that I missed?

[–]bedabup 0 points1 point ago

I was talking about the end zone one yes, although there was an earlier pass interference call clearly on the offense that was called against the defense as well. The entire game's officiating was just a big old shitstorm brewing for both teams that finally came to a head with the blown call to end the game.

[–]Aneurin 1 point2 points ago

So you're saying I have a shot at being an NFL referee?

[–]bedabup 0 points1 point ago

No, you're overqualified apparently.

[–]Aneurin 0 points1 point ago

Damn my IQ!

[–]J_LaP 0 points1 point ago

I love how people believe the regular refs would have gotten that right. Clearly they have the same affinty for fucking shit up, i.e., this.

[–]scratchisme -4 points-3 points ago

As a man who doesn't know his football I don't see the problem.

[–]COXIMUS 3 points4 points ago

Well, you clearly cannot lose 8 points on a penalty without going for 2... so they messed it up.

Edit: I feel like this joke isn't funny, since no one really knows what's going on here

[–]toucansam_ -3 points-2 points ago

well said sir!

[–]scruntly -2 points-1 points ago

Not knowing anything about NFL means that I am not sure what the joke is here...
