the infamous TV Cart with strap included

[–]JimbobTheBuilder 64 points65 points ago

a rolling death trap

[–]theDeathShip 25 points26 points ago

I tried to get it over that bump thing that separated the tile and carpet with the screen facing me once. I was in second grade and that bitch started teetering. I thought I was a goner. I testified. That cocksucker's doing 30 for attempted murder.

[–]necrodude 4 points5 points ago

Looking at your username, I think there might be some unresolved issues regarding that fateful day...

[–]McMuffintop 17 points18 points ago

I hate when you walk into the classroom and that damn tv taunts you the whole time. There is a tv, but no, you will not watch a movie.

[–]lemmereddit 0 points1 point ago

Especially when the TV is not normally there.

[–]PianoTrumpetMax -3 points-2 points ago

[–]lemmereddit 2 points3 points ago

No no. Back when I was in school, some of my classes always had a TV in there for some reason but we rarely watched it. Some classes never had a TV in it so if I showed up to class and there was a TV, I would get excited....only to find out the TV was for another class or something.

[–]Ronnie_James_Diode 12 points13 points ago

The fact the the strap was apparently seamless (the buckle was positioned under the cart so I couldn't see it) but yet was threaded through a closed frame of metal fucked with my 8 year old mind.

[–]vertigo1083 18 points19 points ago

So what do they do nowadays?

Do they roll flatscreens around on something?

I haven't stepped foot in a school since 2001.

[–]OSX2000 31 points32 points ago

Projectors and/or built-in TVs are much more common now.

[–]aron2295 8 points9 points ago

While we have those, we havent gotten our VHS collection digitized. So while we have all the projectors, the smartboard and the old dell laptops, we sometimes watch VHS tapes. It takes me back to 90s. I dont mind it.

[–]triplea20x 0 points1 point ago

Why don't you just hook the VCR up to the projector? That's what my High school did

[–]allcapfury 0 points1 point ago

The school district I used to go to had smartboards and whiteboards and the one I go to now has built-in flat screens and chalkboards.

[–]MeatwadSaint 1 point2 points ago

As a student of lausd, (Los Angeles unified school district), one of the most poorest districts we still have tv's from the 90's.

[–]necrodude 0 points1 point ago

I remember watching the videos in food tech that were made back in the early 90's possibly 80's. After we finished we would go through and change 90% of the comprehension to match the "new" way.

[–]OnlyGetsDownvoted 5 points6 points ago

Still got the same exact setup in a lot of my classes haha.

[–]Chaos_Tempus 2 points3 points ago

By how many yards are you mandated to stay away from one?

(I'm kidding, I haven't been to a school since I graduated half a decade ago)

[–]Imnolongerlurking 0 points1 point ago

Projectors or smart boards generally.

[–]Icovada 0 points1 point ago

We didn't have a rolling cart, we used to have "the TV classroom" where we'd go if we needed to watch something.

In my experience it has been so from elementary to high school. Three years ago my high school did have a flat screen TV installed in place of the old CRT, but they still watch VHS on is

[–]userjoe9066 4 points5 points ago

And VCR, can't forget the VCR.

[–]Flawd 4 points5 points ago

Mmmm VCR.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Flawd 1 point2 points ago

Shhh, don't blow my cover!

[–]userjoe9066 1 point2 points ago

Your secret is safe with me, don't worry.

[–]pepperschilihotred 1 point2 points ago

i remember watching this shit on laser disc!

[–]Icovada 0 points1 point ago

As someone who is currently digitising a few cubic metres of tapes...

VCR, oh God, VCR

[–]Misterjankens 0 points1 point ago

I remember that shit it was just so awesome how they thought do far a head about that

[–]toorroot 0 points1 point ago

Laser disks!

[–]phenomenomnom 55 points56 points ago

80s kid here. My favorite was book fair day. Week.

When we gathered around the TV it was because a space shuttle blew up.

This Nye fellow seems a'ight though.

[–]DirectorSG 5 points6 points ago

Us '80s kids had Mr. Wizard's World and 3-2-1 Contact.

[–]cigerect 3 points4 points ago

When we gathered around the TV it was because a space shuttle blew up.

Or we were about to watch an anti-drug video.

[–]ABritishGentleman 0 points1 point ago

REEFER MADNESS!

Dun Dun Dunnn

[–]PancakeMonkeypants 0 points1 point ago

I was born in 1992 and loved the book fair too. Did you ever do the thing where you went to a bank and got a free book?

[–]jsimon8 69 points70 points ago

loved seeing that giant A/V cart in front of class when you would walk in, always put a smile on my face

[–]ANTI-PUGSLY 77 points78 points ago

Until you realize it was from the previous class!

[–]jamesfordsawyer 26 points27 points ago

In my school AV cart meant the teacher had a hangover and it was definitely for ALL the classes he/she taught that day. I've seen so many reruns of the Cosby show...

[–]CallTheOptimist 1 point2 points ago

COLLEGE!!!!!

[–]FlyingPasta 7 points8 points ago

As a rule, the other classes always have more fun than you.

[–]CHILLAX_I_got_this 0 points1 point ago

Ahh dude talk about nostalgia, now a days with built in TV's you just don't get that same feeling when you walk in and see the rolling carts.

[–]NatesVlogs 0 points1 point ago

It was usually a rainy day when we got it. That meant dodgeball too... double win!

[–]drdoctorphd 84 points85 points ago

SCIENCE RULES

[–]mmtnin 68 points69 points ago

Inertia is a property of matter

[–]Rokosnocone 60 points61 points ago

BillBillBillBillbillBillBill

[–]Magicalnoose 31 points32 points ago

How does this always end up happening?

[–]Rokosnocone 31 points32 points ago

Because science

[–]Turnshroud 18 points19 points ago

also your epidermis is showing

[–]mmtnin 2 points3 points ago

The song is just too ingrained in my head NOT to do it!

[–]TheOven 2 points3 points ago

Forever stuck in my head

I can't see, hear, or read about him without chanting his name in my head

[–]ObeselyMorbid 0 points1 point ago

Did you know that?

[–]nukalurk 1 point2 points ago

[–]EchoFiveTwo 1 point2 points ago

Bill Nye, your mom's a guy

[–]BlusteryEmu 10 points11 points ago

T minus, 30 seconds

[–]Mar_Phoenix 34 points35 points ago

Not mine I had to take notes while we were watching it.

[–]GuillotineGash 4 points5 points ago

Same here. Still loved it though; it was better than the usual lesson in class so I'd put up with taking a few notes.

[–]SpaceCampDropOut[S] 5 points6 points ago

wha? awe man! Well here's an up vote anyways.

[–]VervetDrunkey 18 points19 points ago

As a substitute teacher, Bill Nye and Mythbusters tend to make science pretty high on my list of favourite subjects to cover.

[–]redpandapaw 3 points4 points ago

...they show Mythbusters in schools?

[–]fermentate 5 points6 points ago

Saw it frequently in middle school when the teacher didn't give a shit.

[–]triplea20x 1 point2 points ago

What the fuck. Are you serious??

[–]PancakeMonkeypants 1 point2 points ago

I got a little in high school but it was a exceptionally lazy teacher. The good one showed Gattaca and really well selected documentaries I can't remember now I just remember the things I learned from them. The best teachers sneak the knowledge into your head.

[–]Farfignougat 5 points6 points ago

Yeah except I went to a private school...ಠ_ಠ

[–]nukalurk 2 points3 points ago

I went to a private school and these metal tv sets and Bill Nye were my childhood. I'm sorry.

[–]HungryHippocampus 1 point2 points ago

Me too!!

[–]xcforlife 6 points7 points ago

I'm disappointed in this gif's lack of loopiness.

[–]jsandler18 14 points15 points ago

Dat cart.

[–]unwanted_puppy 0 points1 point ago

took me back.

[–]benoit_benoit 5 points6 points ago

My mother is a biology teacher and went to a teaching convention to hear him speak. Apparently he hates it when classes view episodes of his show as a substitute for a lesson. He thought the show should be watched at home in order to instill an interest of science in the kids which would eventually translate to interest in the classroom. He thought teachers showing episodes of his show would defeat the entire purpose of his show (in addition to it being just plain lazy on the teachers part.)

[–]Cody878 1 point2 points ago

Even Bill can't be right all the time.

[–]aptrapani 1 point2 points ago

I think he has a good point, and I definitely think the nature of the show did wonders for stimulating interest in the more benign aspects of science. However, it's great as a precursor to a lesson (as opposed to being the full lesson). He was great at simplifying and creating a demo that kids could both relate to and find interest in.

[–]Streeb-Greebling 30 points31 points ago

As much as I loved watching Bill episodes instead of doing classwork, nothing can hold a candle to this.

[–]ANTI-PUGSLY 18 points19 points ago

Our gym teacher would have us all do this on our own. Then while we were under it, he'd start walking away saying, "Alright now you guys I'm going to grab a cup of coffee, no one go anywhere until I'm back!"

Then he'd wait by the lights until we all started wondering where he went. Then he'd kill the lights. Then he started making growling noises and talking in a gruff voice, like, "Ah what have we here...!"

Then he'd take one of those extendable poles to open windows high on a wall and reach it through the center hole of the parachute and start prodding around "hunting for kids".

This was in 3rd grade and it never got old to us. Once I remember someone decided to try to grab the pole and he went along with it as if he was fishing.

Great, great gym teacher. They literally aren't allowed to be like this anymore. We played all sorts of "dangerous" games that involved hurling balls at one another, careening around the gym on plastic butt scooters, etc. It makes me sad for future generations :(

[edit] Fun fact, he's actually the brother of Bill Parcells.

[–]Ronnie_James_Diode 22 points23 points ago

As fun as the butt scooters were, I liked the intact state of my fingers better.

[–]Storminormin 4 points5 points ago

My pinky is crooked because of those things =(

[–]LukaCola 2 points3 points ago

Protective handles are a great feature. The future of butt scooters is a safe one!

[–]PancakeMonkeypants 0 points1 point ago

If you just got the fat kid scooter you could dominate all the other kids and never get hurt.

[–]CountPikmin 4 points5 points ago

I was visiting an elementary school recently, and can confirm they still do all of these things.

[–]Joseph445 0 points1 point ago

Wait, you're not allowed to do the plastic butt scooter thing any more? When did this happen?

[–]Scarjaka 1 point2 points ago

Those butt scooters should have been taken away a lot faster than they did. Every time my class got those at least 3 or 4 people had to go to the nurse because they ran over their fingers and started bleeding.

[–]DrLasagna 0 points1 point ago

Your school is just bad at things. This never happened at mine. We even had a game where we would set up all the gymnastics equipment and play capture the flag over it. Parallel bars, monkey bars, swings, ropes, mats that you could jump to, it was the most dangerous game I've seen and no one got hurt. Pirates and Bandits, best game ever.

[–]schmelzerfy 9 points10 points ago

I work at a youth center for middle schoolers and I am not even kidding one of the kids said " I hate Bill Nye the magic school bus is better." I told her she was wrong, she walked away.

[–]loki1887 9 points10 points ago

I clicked this link and ended up watching an entire episode, the evolution episode. The US desperately needs him back on tv.

[–]mistsofobscurity 1 point2 points ago

r/atheism would be proud of you

[–]thatTigercat 2 points3 points ago

Only if he was willing to tell them all about how much he hates religious people and fucks with them on facebook

[–]jsun31 3 points4 points ago

I won't lie, when my chemistry teacher showed our class an episode of Bill Nye just for kicks, I was incredibly giddy

[–]birdnerd 17 points18 points ago

ONLY 90'S KIDS WILL UPVOTE THIS

[–]duxup 12 points13 points ago

And spam the shit out of everyone like being a 90s kid is rare or noteworthy or something.

Oh fuck that's the joke right... ?

God why am I so dumb!?!?!? ლ(ಠ_ಠლ)

[–]birdnerd 8 points9 points ago

You should have called yourself duxnp to have a rotational palindrome.

[–]ngmcs8203 0 points1 point ago

I was in elementary school in the 90s and I was more of an Oregon Trail day fan than TV day v

[–]DRYSHAMPOO 2 points3 points ago

The best part of my middle school days!!!!!

[–]Willmcdougal 2 points3 points ago

I was homeschooled so I watched this shit every day, fuck y'all.

[–]Qonfused 2 points3 points ago

I had more nostalgia for the cart than Bill Nye. Like, I forgot about the cart.

[–]silent_p 1 point2 points ago

Dude, has it always said Disney, there?

[–]triplea20x 0 points1 point ago

I'm pretty sure Disney bought it like halfway through.

[–]jonosvision 2 points3 points ago

Any one else relate to this?

"Yeaaah, we're gonna watch a movie! The tv is in the class room!"

teacher turns the movie on

NATIONAL FILM BOARD OF CANADA

[–]Broduski 3 points4 points ago

I never actually watched Bill Nye in school. I feel deprived.

[–]UnholyDemigod 2 points3 points ago

You poor souls. :-(

[–]CokerAddict 0 points1 point ago

Wow, someone on reddit likes Bill Nye. Shocking.

[–]iceman19-2000 2 points3 points ago

FUCK.

YES.

[–]JSA17 0 points1 point ago

How am I just realizing that it was a Disney show? It was always on PBS....

[–]marcoosha 0 points1 point ago

BILL

[–]Chuck-E-Sleaze 1 point2 points ago

Especially when your teacher previously dated Bill Nye and you can just see the pain flicker across her face.

[–]ainesey -1 points0 points ago

I heard of that guy for the first time during Junior year of High School(2008). It was a fun class

[–]duxup 1 point2 points ago

Safety strap on the TV... cart with four wheels.... damn rich kids.

[–]Facade1228 1 point2 points ago

Not mine. Because after everyone saw an episode they started to chant BILL BILL BILL BILL to me every time they saw me in the hall way. I almost hate having the name Bill.

[–]DeadPlayerWalking 0 points1 point ago

William! William! William! William!

[–]MangoTux 1 point2 points ago

I almost saw him on Friday, but sadly, the place was packed, they turned me away.

[–]09112001[!] 1 point2 points ago

Holy shit I forgot all about those rolling TVs

[–]JUSTCALLmeY 1 point2 points ago

[–]Hougie 0 points1 point ago

Expected Pizza Day.

Still wasn't disappointed.

[–]jvass 1 point2 points ago

you should have seen my smile when i saw this. That man is my hero.

[–]TheRedComet 0 points1 point ago

My favorite part was watching intently for the DVD logo to bounce into the corner. It was always just oh so close.

[–]deuteros 0 points1 point ago

We never watched Bill Nye in school. The only television I remember watching are Bill Clinton's inauguration and the O.J. Simpson verdict.

Everything else was usually documentaries.

[–]mermaidrampage 1 point2 points ago

Despite the fact I have not seen that show in well over a decade, I could still hear the opening music in my head perfectly

[–]SerDelta 0 points1 point ago

Immediately this made me happy.

deep voice

Bill Nye the Science Guy...

[–]soy_en_fuego 1 point2 points ago

No joke. I was kicked out of class in middle for complaining that we had to watch that "science guy" again. I hope Bill will forgive me

[–]Pancakebatterz 0 points1 point ago

I watched the episode on Light in one of my classes in college and after that went home and watched as many of those videos i could that same night

[–]peon_taking_credit 0 points1 point ago

THAT WAS A DISNEY SHOW??!!?

My god, they've fallen so far....

[–]BamboolessPanda 0 points1 point ago

[–]MisterDonkey 0 points1 point ago

BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL Bill Nye The Science Guy!

[–]THEMCV 1 point2 points ago

I've never seen Bill Nye the Science Guy. Ever.

[–]myselfalex 0 points1 point ago

I broke my mouse button trying to click upvote harder.

[–]dorfcally 0 points1 point ago

My favorite day of school was penis inspection day

[–]Deadlyshock 0 points1 point ago

Me and my immature middle school friends used to chant bill nye, your mom's a guy or bill nye he fucked a guy...

[–]shebillah 0 points1 point ago

The sad thing was that as I got older in Jr High kids pretended they didn't like it and would groan. But after a few minutes everyone was completely engrossed.

[–]aclockworkoranje -1 points0 points ago

I despise how Bill Nye equates to instant karma. It is so lazy and feeds to the hivemind. Reddit bitches about idolization of celebrities but does the exact same thing with Neil Degrasse Tyson and Bill Nye. I feel like a lot of people on reddit like the idea of liking science on a very cursory level, but not anything in depth.

[–]Phoequinox 0 points1 point ago

I swear, that guy ages in double time. He looked young then, and looks absolutely brittle now.

[–]ElAyDubleZee -1 points0 points ago

I went to Catholic school. I've never seen an episode. I am not a smart man.

[–]wesrawr -1 points0 points ago

I wen't to public school with catholic teachers, we didn't get to watch it either.

[–]Flawd 0 points1 point ago

I run a computer shop and we play Bill Nye, Mr. Wizard, and Mythbusters all day on our display monitors. It's awesome!

[–]DylanTheDespot 0 points1 point ago

BILL! BILL! BILL! BILL! BILL! BILL! BILL! BILL!

[–]b00n96 0 points1 point ago

My 7th grade science teacher never showed us Bill Nye. Instead, he showed us really boring videos that I don't remember. I learned two things from that class: 1. I hated that teacher for not showing Bill Nye. 2. Science did not rule that year.

[–]Dogcatcher1979 0 points1 point ago

BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL

[–]theDeathShip 0 points1 point ago

I subbed in a science class today. I saw a Bill Nye DVD about cells on the desk and got fucking excited as hell because I'd get to watch it with the kids. Then the lesson plan said that we were to watch a way shittier Assitant Professor DVD that was also on the desk instead. At first I was so happy, and then I ಠ_ಠ'd.

[–]HugoM 1 point2 points ago

So what do they do in new schools? Surely the CRT and VCR combo wouldn't be around. Is there anything comparable to Bill Nye from this century?

[–]EinfachJosef 0 points1 point ago

Inertia is a property of matter!

[–]ObeselyMorbid 0 points1 point ago

School? My favorite day ever!!

[–]a_wild_JEW_appears 0 points1 point ago

[–]J-AnideM 0 points1 point ago

[–]chokfull 0 points1 point ago

[–]readytofall 0 points1 point ago

He just came to my campus but was sold out by the time I got there.

[–]RyGuy997 0 points1 point ago

Oh god 4:3 resolution ratio. NOT THE CRT!

[–]Chaxie 0 points1 point ago

The rest of the day was filled with the glorious chants of, "BILLBILLBILLBILLBILLBILLBILL" ...the good l days.

[–]imgurigirl 0 points1 point ago

Confession bear: Bill Nye was not a part of my childhood. I never even heard of him until I was at least 14. However I did watch Cosmos as a child.

[–]kevLAXpro 0 points1 point ago

Kids today will never quite understand the amazing feeling accompanied by the tv cart carrying Bill Nye

[–]Super_Cloaca 0 points1 point ago

[–]SamAllmon 0 points1 point ago

Don't tell them I told you, but the whole series is on watchseries.eu

If I could watch them legally, I could. But I can't, so piracy to the rescue.

[–]AgentRG 0 points1 point ago

Meh, the country I grew up in didn't show his stuff, so I can't really relate.

[–]or_nauut 0 points1 point ago

[–]mappum 0 points1 point ago

That is the exact cart! This brings back memories.

[–]Dark_Green_Blanket 0 points1 point ago
