What is that light? It looks like some of the trees are on fire.

[–]suckerswag 1 point2 points ago

Cars, stores, hotels.

[–]raginweon[!] -4 points-3 points ago

impossible to be cars, stores or hotels, unless it was a light exposure picture. i worked there for two years and there are no hotels or stores near that waterfall (bridal veil) only roads.

[–]Mayniac182 4 points5 points ago

"impossible to be cars"

"only roads"

I'm fairly sure it could be cars, if there's roads there already. Plus there's a faint light trail from a long exposure capturing a car around the bottom left.

[–]raginweon[!] -4 points-3 points ago

yea, if it's a light exposure. but I am positive it can't be hotels or stores. they are more towards the east end of the valley, this pretty far west.

[–]flitcroft 0 points1 point ago

It's the main road through the valley, entering from Tunnel View. Here's an uncropped image: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/photo-contest/2012/entries/154391/view/

Except I'm pretty sure there's a road that goes through the park - I'm pretty sure I've seen this pic before and they mention it being at dusk, with cars driving through.

Almost every US national park has buildings and roads in it. Do you know what a national park is?

[–]hideisalive 0 points1 point ago

In the continental United States? A tourist attraction.

As someone that gets out of my house and sees the world, there are roads and info centers and shit in that valley. You can't see them because the trees are massive, but they are there.

Alternatively, where do you propose the lights came from?

[–]deusahominis 0 points1 point ago

Four stores, three hotels, multiple camp sites, many roads and five employee housing complexes.

[–]cultmember 0 points1 point ago

pollution.

[–]PoorPolonius 0 points1 point ago

Looks like light diffusing through the mist collecting in the valley.

[–]TheoQ99 7 points8 points ago

Posted just the other day to /pics. You suck.

[–]PoorPolonius 0 points1 point ago

Because things can't be cross-posted?

[–]TheoQ99 0 points1 point ago

Not when it was already on here too.

[–]PoorPolonius 1 point2 points ago

Relevant. Just because it's a repost to you doesn't mean it's a repost for everyone.

[–]jesset77 0 points1 point ago

I want more resolutions. T-T

[–]domy94 5 points6 points ago

Best I can find. A widescreen version sadly doesn't exist.

[–]jesset77 0 points1 point ago

Still an improvement. It would be challenging to widescreen an image with as much vertical beauty as this one, anyhow. :3 I just like mah megapixels. ;3

Check the Nat Geo best photo competition.

[–]nitrous2401 0 points1 point ago

Yeahhh... came here to see if anyone had a wallpaper version haha. It's beautiful as fuck.

[–]maisiemaisie 0 points1 point ago

Looks like Mordor, but with snow and trees. And much prettier.

[–]gryllz1991 0 points1 point ago

This might easily be the most beautiful picture I've seen here.

[–]Gabigabs 0 points1 point ago

The light definitely looks like fire.

[–]crazyhiker1995 0 points1 point ago

Truly a land of wonder.

[–]_Shamrocker_ -4 points-3 points ago

Seriously, this has already been posted once or twice in the last week or two. STAHP

[–]marsofwar 1 point2 points ago

Did the original poster say anything about why there's that orange/red light in the middle of the forest?

also whats this stahp business?

[–]xur_ 2 points3 points ago

whats this stahp business?

Somekind of babytalk or exaggerative speech I believe.

[–]marsofwar 0 points1 point ago

Is that what it is? Why is it so prevalent on reddit now??

[–]tinfins 1 point2 points ago

Given the streaking of what I assume are headlights in the lower-left, I imagine this is a long exposure shot and the glowing areas are cars, campsites, or buildings with lights on.

And 'stahp' is part of the latest over-used meme that has crested that line from still having any of the original context to growing increasingly annoying.

[–]marsofwar 0 points1 point ago

Where and when did it originate from? I'm seeing it all over reddit now

[–]_Shamrocker_ 1 point2 points ago

Yes, they are headlights from the cars on the road. I want people to stop reposting content until it's at least been a few weeks if not months. I'm not usually one to bitch about karma whoring but the amount of times I've seen this picture posted in a short amount of time is ridiculous.

[–]marsofwar 0 points1 point ago

Ah that explains the weird glow.

I dont know what it is about people that just repost content. I never knew Karma was so important!

[–]_Shamrocker_ 1 point2 points ago

It's not, that's why I don't generally bitching about the whoring, but now that it's having a detrimental impact on my browsing I thought I would say something.

The first one I saw was actually titled "Headlights in Yosemite" or something to that effect, maybe the word "valley" was in the title as well.

[–]PoorPolonius 0 points1 point ago

Funny, I didn't see it.
