At first I was like "Why is everyone wearing motorcycle helmets?" Then I looked at the leopard, and was like "Oh. because that."

[–]daronious 122 points123 points ago

As a "forest department employee" wtf makes you say "hmm I should throw a rock at that leopard"

[–]spambottle 212 points213 points ago

OP is indulging in Reddit's favourite pastime - karma whoring an old story with a misleading title.

Here's the story (tl;dr: the forest guard was trying to shoot it with a tranquilizer gun after it strayed into an urban area), and the video.

[–]nubbled21 30 points31 points ago

Thanks spambottle. Love seeing relevant content up top. I think the most important thing for everyone to remember is: Don't fuck with big cats...

[–]asbestosmask 12 points13 points ago

Don't fuck with big cats...

One would think, but the sheer volume of stupid you can find on a daily basis seems to indicate otherwise.

[–]nubbled21 7 points8 points ago

Second thing for everyone to remember: Don't make masks out of asbestos...

[–]asbestosmask 8 points9 points ago

True story

[–]feureau[S] -4 points-3 points ago

Also: The fag will be with OP. Always.

[–]oldbean 4 points5 points ago

Needs more people talking at the same time.

[–]walaska 19 points20 points ago

Yeah, fucking badass. You know why leopards are more dangerous to humans than Lions?

Because leopards have evolved to hunt monkeys. Monkeys have a similar physiology. The hind claws were actually meant to hit the guy's belly, which would spill out his guts in zero time and make him incapable of running away. The front claws prepare your head for the second part of the killing move, which is teeth going into your brain. I don#t think I need to elaborate on why this is bad. Also, they're used to hunting alone.

Lions, on the other hand, just swipe and bite and hope you die. They don't understand your body. If an evil genius ever gives you the choice of fighting a leopard or a lion to the death without a gun, then lion should definitely be your choice every time unless you have body armor protecting your chest and a helmet on your head. although to be honest you're probably fucked either way.

source: a Wilbur Smith book. probably bullshit, but I liked it

And in one picture you can see why Lions, Tigers, Leopards, Cheetahs, etc cant be house cats. Even though I bet this Leopard was accustomed to humans it still got angry and attacked... I have cats... they do the same - the only difference is that I'm much bigger than my house cats and therefore they cant really hurt me (also they never go full out - only like a "HEY, STOP RUBBING MY BELLY NOW OK?!"). Also, damn crazy how well planned of an attack that was - right at the neck!

[–]iamagainstit 14 points15 points ago

cheetahs can actually be tamed, and have been since ancient Egypt , they are the only big cat which can be.

[–]redditlife13 10 points11 points ago

Source?

[–]iamagainstit 7 points8 points ago

I don't remember where I originally read about it but here is the Wikipedia entry on the taming of cheetahs in ancient Egypt.

[–]Yesod -1 points0 points ago

(But not domesticated i.e., bred under human control.)

[–]trsn 10 points11 points ago

Not domesticated =/= not tamed.

Just sayin'...

[–]Yesod 5 points6 points ago

Pardon, but perhaps you are kindly mistaken.

[–]Yesod 2 points3 points ago

Interesting. Thanks.

[–]trsn 2 points3 points ago

Oh, I guess I am.

I always thought domestication was on a broader scale, with breeding and such.

[–]RobChromatik 0 points1 point ago

But... #2 Tamed as a verb could mean something else.

[–]gsfgf 5 points6 points ago

Cheetahs are extremely tame by nature. Apparently, you can pull a wild cheetah out of a tree by its tail and it will just give you a dirty look.

However, cheetahs don't thrive in captivity. Unless you have enough property for the cheetah to roam to its natural extent, it's not fair to own one.

Source: I wish it was feasible to have a pet cheetah.

[–]AvidOxid 7 points8 points ago

If I die because I pull a cheetah out of a tree by its tail, just know that I blame you.

[–]Felonia 4 points5 points ago

Leave a note in your pocket saying "gsfgf made me do it"

[–]coupdetat 1 point2 points ago

the river nile

[–]hennatomodachi 0 points1 point ago

Cheetahs aren't even considered as dangerous to humans as other cats--especially leopards.

[–]pokie6 -1 points0 points ago

They shouldn't be house pets because they are rare majestic animals that should be preserved, not used for our amusements. Lion trainers have existed for centuries, so it is possible to keep big cats just like most animals.

[–]tuck5649 14 points15 points ago

The guards aren't even pointing their guns at the cat. This must have happened very quickly.

[–]who_is_jennifer 43 points44 points ago

Of course, it's a fucking cat

[–]karadorde 7 points8 points ago

http://i.imgur.com/ZZoB2.gif So this kid grew up and now he relives the same nightmare all over again.

[–]trivialretort 1 point2 points ago

Why the hell did he punch/slap the cat? He deserved it.

[–]I_decide_up_or_down 6 points7 points ago

Can we get the news story associated with this photo OP?

[–]marksmayo 7 points8 points ago

Here

(edit) note it happened over 14 months ago.

[–]ukbulmer 6 points7 points ago

Does it have his entire head in his mouth, or am I not looking closely enough?

Also, what happened? What was the aftermath? Is the cat ok?

[–]benhamine 6 points7 points ago

Looks like it's "just" his neck. His head is on the other side of the cheetah's but I see the perspective you're talking about.

[–]pryan12 2 points3 points ago

Is the cat okay? How about is the guy okay? Or even alive?

[–]KrikkitOne 18 points19 points ago

Some more shots here.

Looks as if the guy survived, although I suspect he was pretty far from ok after that. The leopard died.

[–]squinkys 4 points5 points ago

Holy shit, those pics are intense!

[–]LebronKingJames 0 points1 point ago

Sad because you know the leopard was shot and killed after this. Stupid humans. RIP beautiful leopard.

[–]Shappie 6 points7 points ago

Not so much after you find out the leopard was mauling people.

To the below commenter, the guy threw a rock to get the leopards attention. It probably didn't even hit it. Do you really think a forest department employee is throwing rocks at a dangerous animal for shits?

This is such a great example of the reddit-pitchfork effect. People see an inflammatory title and a picture both taken completely out of context and suddenly it's all aboard the 'Fuck humans go wild animals express'! Choo choo!

[–]finitecapacity -2 points-1 points ago

Yeah, it bothers me that this guy purposefully antagonized a dangerous creature which means the leopard has to be killed because of it.

[–]gorgonz014 0 points1 point ago

Seems to me like the man who is attacked has upperbody-protection and might have a helmet like the others in that photo.

If you look closely at the leopards left frontpaw you can see some red which might be a tranquilizer-dart.

[–]Miserable_Bugger 0 points1 point ago

What? You can see clearly that the man who is attacked is only wearing a cap.

[–]gorgonz014 0 points1 point ago

I thought that his shoulders looked unusually beefy and that did lead me to thinking that he had protection at least over the upper-part of the body. We don't see his head so he could have headgear.

[–]Miserable_Bugger 0 points1 point ago

Have you seen THIS link posted above that has extra pictures to the story? You can clearly see the man about to be attacked & he is clearly only wearing a cap!

[–]gorgonz014 0 points1 point ago

Thank you for clarifying that. The link hadn't been posted when I posted my initial response to this thread :)

[–]Rex_Lee 0 points1 point ago

I don't see that ending well for that guy. That is basically a killing hold that leopard is about to have on him...

[–]pingpongcat 1 point2 points ago

Damn, went right for his neck too. Impressive picture.

[–]JewCurls 0 points1 point ago

That's what ya get when you're an asshole to wild animals.

[–]OneLostAsteroid 1 point2 points ago

As a person who is from West Bengal, I can confirm that this picture is about a year old and not so rare

[–]Gooberpatrol66 -1 points0 points ago

Did he died?

[–]marksmayo 1 point2 points ago

I realise many haven't seen it before, but it's worth noting this happened over 14 months ago.

[–]wilkinsk 0 points1 point ago

Red Helmet seems like he's got everything under control there.

[–]teslasmash 1 point2 points ago

Those are some huge leaves!

[–]upvoteplus 0 points1 point ago

He who cast the first stone....shall be fucking mauled by thy leopard.

Words to live by.

[–]FinnishHippo 1 point2 points ago

TIL never throw a rock at a leopard.

[–]mltinney -1 points0 points ago

That. Sucks.

[–]s1thl0rd 0 points1 point ago

This kills the man.

[–]slaterhome 0 points1 point ago

Cool leopard helmet.

[–]discohitman 1 point2 points ago

Lesson of the day: always wear a helmet when throwing rocks at leopards

[–]DoubleDutchOven 1 point2 points ago

Hey look, a leopard. Let's throw rocks at it.

[–]meyamashi 1 point2 points ago

Fatal for the leopard.

[–]BR0THAKYLE 0 points1 point ago

"you try to fuck on meeeee?!?"

[–]guerillastyle420 0 points1 point ago

Is he unfortunately the only one NOT wearing a helmet?

[–]uRabbit 1 point2 points ago

Good for the cat! Though he was probably killed after this. "/

[–]boogieroo 0 points1 point ago

Looks like the leopard ate the guy's head.

[–]hoshin 0 points1 point ago

You're welcome, Pounce.

[–]WhyAmINotStudying 0 points1 point ago

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but a leopard's gonna rip your dick off.

[–]DocHopper 0 points1 point ago

I love how all these guys with guns are just standing there watching the carnage.

[–]Kupkin 1 point2 points ago

Is it wrong that I feel like he deserved it for throwing rocks?

[–]TekAzurik 0 points1 point ago

This picture has been reposted like 5 times in the last week.
