As a HS teacher who is into gaming I think this is kind of pathetic. It's OK to like games. It's OK to let on now and then that you like gaming. It's great if you can relate the subject matter to something relevant to the kids. But I think school is not the place to set up a shrine to your hobby. By doing so you, among other things, also somewhat alienate the population of kids that aren't into your hobby. This goes for the sports-loving teachers too.

Focus on the teaching, teacher.

1) Modern Macs can dual-boot Windows. Buying a MacBook, you get a very well built laptop that can run both Windows for your games, and Mac OS X for other tasks (so you get a real operating system). Shit, I even know people who don't run Mac OS X, but use a MacBook with Windows simply for the better construction. To me, the price of the Mac does not justify the better quality construction, nor the opportunity to run Mac OS X, but perhaps it does to him.

2) I know plenty of gamers who game on a PC tower, but use a Mac laptop for most other activities. Which makes sense, because most laptop keyboards suck for gaming anyway.

Also, since I already have a pretty good book library, I hope to increase my collection of comic books/manga for my students to borrow. So I have every intention of being that super nerdy teacher.
