I never got to 4, mainly just played 1 when it came out, and 3, and SA. the maps were helpful for finding specific places, but for the most part yeah, memorized pretty quick.

He's crazy, I sit at arms length from my 27" desktop monitor when I'm racing, the perspective is all wrong at the distance the OP is playing at!

(and I still want more peripheral vision, hurry up Oculus Rift, the head tracking should add a lot to the experience)

I agree. I like racing the slower cars with harder handling. It's more of a technical challenge. There's a challenge in GT5 where you have to race around the Top Gear track in an old VW bus that's slow as hell and handles like a... well... bus! It's great fun!

I'm a racing game noob, just got my wheel last week. But for my money the most difficult thing is a really powerful car with hard street tires and without aero. I don't find the lower powered cars very difficult, because on most races you simply can't get them going fast enough to where it is challenging to manage your traction budget. Not so with fast cars. And naturally you'll need to turn all assists off to really know if you're any good.

Yeah, true. Both are great, don't get me wrong, but I drive the old clunkers or little underpowered hatches just as often as the supercars, and enjoy every minute.

With an even field to fight through or time challenges, it really pushes my skills. Each corner has to be taken just right to increase the length of the straights, the gear needs to be right and throttle position in just the right spot to get the most out of the car. The crappier cars are usually more prone to under/oversteer as well, so getting the balance of throttle and brakes is also important. Those may only mean a 1/10th of a second difference, but that's the sort of thing I like to chase.

All that is also very important in the more powerful cars, of course, but unless you're up against some great online racers or crank the difficulty right up, they tend to be a bit more forgiving.

Honda Fits actually make great race cars for their class. They are extremely light weight and have great handling. It's not a Audi but its better than just about every other car in its class other than the Fiesta.
