Do you actually think many people do this? Go back through previous reports? I'd be floored if more than 1 in 500 readers actually do this, especially for something as trivial as a cat climbing down a fridge.

Call me crazy, but I think it's simply a snide way to point out a repost in a pseudo-helpful way.

I think it was no more sarcastic than the "In case you were looking for more information" line which - let's be honest here - wasn't posted to help the reader feel anything but resentment for a repost.

It's not like he was showing older posts of a political event or anything remotely intellectual.
