Awful title.

[–]pixieluca 296 points297 points ago

Awful, awful title.

[–]TranceF0rm 27 points28 points ago

What a lovely, lovely voice.

[–]Jman5 19 points20 points ago

it's misleading. I expected something funny about a Homeric epic or Gilgamesh. Disappointed.

[–]LLv2 2 points3 points ago

If you really want an epic, epic fail you could always watch The Immortals.

[–]breakfastlizard -1 points0 points ago

we should be friends.

[–]resident_ginger 147 points148 points ago

Your title describes your title

[–]OhioMallu 4 points5 points ago

Banana is not a banana? What does that mean?

[–]OhioMallu 2 points3 points ago

Never mind, go it! That was rather meta though!

[–]ravelle 1 point2 points ago

Bananas are not Bananas, you've been eating pears all along.

[–]Ieuan1996 0 points1 point ago

My only guess is a banana fruit, is not a resident of Banana Island, Egypt... I could be off. I could be way off. I'm still kind of broken-hearted that a banana isn't a banana. I feel lied to.

[–]HigherFive 6 points7 points ago

You are off. The page is saying that "banana" is not a banana, not that banana is not a banana. I think it'd be difficult to find a sane person claim that banana is not a banana, unless they're taking an introductory philosophy course.

The page says the word "banana" is not a banana. In fact no word is a banana.

[–]Ieuan1996 0 points1 point ago

Sleep deprivation is getting to me. Thank you for clearing that up, HigherFive.

[–]HigherFive 1 point2 points ago

It's like that whole pipe business.

[–]SoManyNinjas 112 points113 points ago

People still say "epic fail"?

[–]Milkusa 74 points75 points ago

No, now they say "Epic, epic fail."

[–]prologio 8 points9 points ago

(Epic x 2) + Fail

[–]gooseberryCrumble -1 points0 points ago

e2 FAIL

[–]SucksAtFormatting 9 points10 points ago

7.39 Fail? That's a lot of fail.

[–]Nimbunaut 0 points1 point ago

Autological expression:

eln7.39 fail

[–]CANCER_PUNCH 15 points16 points ago

No one above the age of 14.

So yes, much of reddit still says "epic fail".

[–]QuakerJack 0 points1 point ago

My mom still says "epic fail". Glad I don't live with parents anymore.

[–]radiobaby 0 points1 point ago

There was a little prob 7 year old girl playing in 1 foot waves at the beach we were at couple of weekends ago with some of her little friends.. Every wave she would shout EPIC WAVE! try to body surf it shout EPIC! while doing so, and then stand up and shout EPIC FAIL! She did that probably 100 times. I was embarrassed I felt embarrassed.

[–]Jman5 -1 points0 points ago

It's Blizzard's favorite word.

[–]DrWonderBread 121 points122 points ago

Consider the possibility that the bike-lock isn't owned by the owner of the bike. It just happened to be there and to make it look as if it was chained at a glance, the bike owner put it like that. So maybe it's actually an epic win. It's all about perspective.

[–]CANCER_PUNCH 23 points24 points ago

But that would mean not getting to feel superior to them.

[–]tnicholson 7 points8 points ago

Epic theory...

[–]Day5225 8 points9 points ago

Epic, epic theory.

[–]Darktidemage 1 point2 points ago

Yes the epic win of constantly leaving your bike unattended because you don't own a lock?

[–]screampuff 0 points1 point ago

Consider that this picture is jpeg'd over 15 times, an obvious shoop that looks like it's from the 90's, and that the lowest common denominator have upvoted this submission since the Knights of New have been overwhelmed and obliterated.

[–]DerNarwhalFreitag 0 points1 point ago

This was actually posted on r/bicycling about a week ago. Probably made it's way through the internet and now it's come full cycle (no pun intended) to die on r/funny.

[–]cypherreddit 0 points1 point ago

posted 6/16/2011

probably much much older than that, but too lazy to go beyond the top hit

[–]teh_tg 0 points1 point ago

Or the owner of the bike was really wanting to donate the bike to a random person, and only cared about the bike lock. That lock is not going anywhere soon.

[–]theclueless93 0 points1 point ago

I did this back in high school for two years, never had my bike stolen.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Xx420xcirclejerker69 3 points4 points ago

You don't even understand what that means...

[–]thisisdia 20 points21 points ago

Sometimes bike locks are hard to figure out.

[–]O-Rex 8 points9 points ago

What kind of bizarre chain is that?

[–]thisisdia 3 points4 points ago

They seem to have put some plastic wire cover over it as a cheapo chain guard.

[–]Fuck_ALL_Religion -5 points-4 points ago

Fabric cover to protect the frame. It's standard on high-end bike locks these days.

Edit: A similar lock: http://www.abus.com/eng/Mobile-Security/Motorbike-Scooter/Lock-chain-combinations/CityChain-1010

[–]ironiridis 0 points1 point ago

Not the lock. The chain.

[–]GluonJetPilot 0 points1 point ago

Looks like a metal spring.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]skinniegenes 6 points7 points ago

That isn't a belt drive in thisisdia's photo, that looks like a DIY chain guard with some plastic tubing.

[–]OhNo-NotAgain -1 points0 points ago

Why even bother locking up something you don't take care of...

[–]kurt8081 33 points34 points ago

I wont lie, took me a few seconds to find out what was wrong.

[–]ALS959 8 points9 points ago

Few seconds? Embarrassed by how long that took me.

[–]Yossarian33 4 points5 points ago

I'm subbed to /r/bicycling. Lock-fail posts are a dime a dozen, so I'm used to picking them out.

Don't feel bad. Come on over and join the "You suck at locking your bike" circlejerk!

[–]Ceejae 3 points4 points ago

Found it almost immediately. It's that the bike chain is pink, for those wondering.

[–]BrittanyRenegade 1 point2 points ago

That took me a good 5 minutes

[–]Superhenk 6 points7 points ago

Security by obsurity.

[–]MrMoustachio 4 points5 points ago

Oh I get it! The bad title and shitty, grainy picture are the fail! So clever!

[–]Majax2 3 points4 points ago

Why so epic? Did you steal the bike?

[–]ComplainsAboutDvotes 2 points3 points ago

Haha, yeah blue and red don't go together.

[–]Lord_Wolfington 2 points3 points ago

My fourth grade students started saying "epic fail". It's to time to move along.

[–]CallMeAnEngineer 4 points5 points ago

This is reddit, not 9gag.

[–]merudqm 0 points1 point ago

This way noone can steal just a part of the fence!

[–]fdsaler 1 point2 points ago

Well, you gotta steal it now.

[–]hypnonewt 0 points1 point ago

As good as those people who lock their bike by the seat with a quick release seatpost.

[–]Orangedelight -1 points0 points ago

DrWonderbread, why would somebody put a bike lock, on someone elses bike? while they were making it look like it was locked, they most definetly noticed that they had a great oppertunity to steal the bike. Maybe, he/she were doing the right thing, but then, why would they leave a bike lock with someones elses bike, would they come back later? i think it is the owners bike lock and they lost the key or forgot the passcode.

[–]ComradeBob0200 1 point2 points ago

If someone didn't take it, they'll never learn.

[–]liebereddit 1 point2 points ago

If the picture isn't staged, this is almost certainly because of someone being very drunk. Someone I know did almost the same exact thing in front of my house. The bike got stolen. The lock is still on the pole.

[–]Roxxer 0 points1 point ago

They were just keeping their lock safe. Who cares about the bike?

[–]Phuck_Nugget 0 points1 point ago

repost.

[–]superawesomeguy 0 points1 point ago

I've never stolen anything in my life, but I would steal that bike just to teach them a lesson.

[–]dorrish 1 point2 points ago

You should come to /r/bicycling, this is a large percentage of what we talk about.

[–]xayzer 0 points1 point ago

It's not a complete and epic fail. At least they can't take the lock.

[–]Hobo-With-A-Shotgun -1 points0 points ago

When I got my first bike, I was always paranoid I'd do something stupid like this, when I was in a rush. Anyway, one day I came back for my bike after a day at College, and someone had put a rusty old chain & lock on it. Oh, and it looked like they'd kicked the hell out of it, because there were scruff marks all over it.

Felt bad man.

[–]chunes 0 points1 point ago

I actually did this a couple weeks ago after economic necessity forced me to start biking to work. It was like that for hours before I noticed and sheepishly fixed it.

[–]daniskillin 0 points1 point ago

Please for the love of everything great, tell me you at least moved the bike. That would make up for the horrible title in my book.

[–]courtFTW 0 points1 point ago

Not gonna lie, it took me a second look to understand why that was a fail.

[–]Lazir 0 points1 point ago

It's the thought that counts

[–]Ze_Invisible_Man 1 point2 points ago

Can we get some more jpeg compression up in here?

[–]gmah1991 2 points3 points ago

[–]murph7272 0 points1 point ago

I lost a bike in college that way once...

[–]PartiallyRibena 0 points1 point ago

I watched my friend do this 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately I had to stop him seeing as he was using my dads bike at the time!

[–]Notoday -1 points0 points ago

Le epic fail! AMIRIGHT??

[–]TrizzyG 0 points1 point ago

It's funny because at first glance most people will just ignore it. You can't even consider this an epic fail.

[–]TheRoach 0 points1 point ago

That was not "epic" in the least. That was just a (fake) reading of a quotation in lame style.

[–]garatron 0 points1 point ago

[–]alex_the_tuba_man -1 points0 points ago

[–]foofooonyou 0 points1 point ago

I have done this while I was drunk.

[–]PBI325 0 points1 point ago

Needs more jpeg!

[–]pink_play-doh 1 point2 points ago

This was posted over in /r/portland today.

[–]Qb9 0 points1 point ago

I'm not saying this is fake, but I'm not a fan of such posts cause they can be easily simulated.

[–]TheSilverPotato 0 points1 point ago

Well at least those bike racks aren't going anywhere anytime soon

[–]elad661 0 points1 point ago

so you found some ultra-low resolution photo somewhere in the depths of the internet, which is not really funny.

But why, why would you upscale it like that? The "Enhance!" shit from CSI doesn't really work, you know, and it looks better in its original size.

Better, but still unfunny.

[–]homestargunner 0 points1 point ago

How's this a fail? He locked the air that's a part of the bike to the post. I see nothing wrong here

[–]Shayne-x 0 points1 point ago

That bike belongs to Michael J Fox

[–]Bitingsome 0 points1 point ago

Making sure the expansive lock doesn't get damaged during bike theft, smart move.

[–]Riotjester 0 points1 point ago

People still say epic fail?

[–]Lyrr3d 0 points1 point ago

Epic epic repost

[–]Zolty 0 points1 point ago

Probably a bait bike, this exists in some cities.

[–]benjaminauer 0 points1 point ago

probably not. I once forgot my lock, so i was looking for a left-behind lock, and fake locked it right there, just pulling it around my bike, so it looked locked on the first glance.

when i came back, still there, great success.

[–]idiotdidntdoit 0 points1 point ago

i've done that.

[–]TheOneBritishGuy 0 points1 point ago

I did this at work the other day. When I finished, I went to unlock it and felt very silly when I realised the lock was just dangling there.

[–]emann43 0 points1 point ago

At least it goes around both posts for added security.

[–]Trusteveryone 0 points1 point ago

So how is your new bike, OP?

[–]elcaracol 0 points1 point ago

happens to me all the time

[–]MajorBlink 0 points1 point ago

The lock looks more expensive than the bike.

[–]Valadar917 0 points1 point ago

You'll be laughing until you try to remove it and it's secure.

I mean, what do you think theoretical physicists have been doing for all this time?

[–]pogletfucker 0 points1 point ago

No one will see this, but a better title would have been, "it must be Monday."

[–]Wilderbeest 1 point2 points ago

[–]elPusherman -2 points-1 points ago

Stupid kids on the internet..

Get a dictionary and stop using words you don't understand..

[–]KellyGreen802 -2 points-1 points ago

I did that once. My bike was not stolen. Now I am super paranoid about it.

[–]SANDEMAN -2 points-1 points ago

[–]Epicfa17 -2 points-1 points ago

Yes?

[–]ijustwantcoffee -2 points-1 points ago

Sorry, obvious photoshop. Texture of the cloth "chain" looks different right above the bike frame.

[–]radiobaby 0 points1 point ago

I don't know why you're getting voted down, you're right.

[–]MaxPayne4life 1 point2 points ago

[–]SanJose_Sharks -3 points-2 points ago

LOL

Asian people are book smart, but stuff like this makes me wonder how they make it from point A to point B.

[–]ComplainsAboutDvotes -4 points-3 points ago

I once thought of a prank that I could never afford to pull.

Get a whole bunch of the cheapest bike locks you can find, and then go around town locking any bike you see. Think of how maddening it would be.Someone gave me a fucking bike lock. That's it.

I really need to work on my presentation.

EDIT: Grammar.

[–]hypnonewt 2 points3 points ago

That happens quite often in cities. People add a lock to the bike and come back later with bolt cutters to remove the legit lock.

source: I worked in a bike shop for a few years where this happened to customers.

[–]holadiewaldfee 1 point2 points ago

happened to me. in front of my house. when I was already running late for university.

[–]steadytheboat -3 points-2 points ago

steal dat shit, marry dat bitch

[–]zlanj 0 points1 point ago

I did that, once. I lost my key and the bike was at my school, I gave it a tug and it was only attached to the front wheel, of course conveniently I couldn't ride my bike with a lock stuck on my tire, so I had to cut it. Then when I rode it the crank threads were stripped on the left pedal and the pedal fell off.

It wasn't a good day.
