          My girlfriend wants to watch it too, but it honestly doesn't look that terrible. It's just a documentary about her and how she got to where she is. Obviously it's selective, but it was a career move.

          But she can sing, the movie has an uplifting and inspiring message about being able to live your dreams, and it isn't hurting anyone.

          I see nothing wrong with this -- if tween girls wanna idolize and emulate someone, better her than some of the others out there.

          (Edit -- yes, there are plenty of other women who are excellent and better role models, but if you have a daughter, she's going to get exposed to this one way or another. And better Katy Perry than Ke$ha.)

          But the important thing to realize is that she wasn't picked and prepared by a producer or a company -- it's not like Disney and their standard tween pop/TV show/3D movie gauntlet that they put their stars through. She wanted to sing, she can sing, and she made something of herself.

          You've never actually had a "morning after" moment with a real, live woman, have you? :) This is how they tend to look without all of their makeup on - especially if you rocked their world the night before. If you're lucky, at least half of that makeup is smeared all over your clothes and body!

          I remember one girl where, after sexy time, I would have to go into the bathroom and scrub my own face in order to get her makeup off of me. This took a while, too, because I just used plain soap and water - none of her fancy makeup removers or anything. This is the same girl who, once she woke up, would go into the bathroom and redo her hair and makeup, then come back to bed, because she didn't want me to see her without it. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I already had.

          I watched it on Friday with my wife and 5 y.o. son. I think its a great movie and shows that she isn't some manufactured pop star like a lot of the rest of them. It shows her as a human and, more importantly, an all around good musician.

          I have much more respect for her now.

          I have to disagree. Sure, Katy Perry wanted to be a star and succeeded in that endeavor, but she is essentially a product picked and groomed by producers and the corporate pop music industry. Read her biography for proof.

          But it's not like producers picking some teenager and then managing her through to adulthood. Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, the Jonas Brothers.

          Obviously she's overproduced now. But she got to that point herself. Clearly her recent surge of popularity was engineered.

          But it's not like, say, some company getting a girl who can't sing (Rebecca Black), autotuning her and putting her in a video, and then riding the success wave after that. It's not as fake and corporate.

          But with success comes moderation -- lots of people have money invested in her career, so she's controlled a lot more now to maximize profits and success. But there's no problem with that. She can still sing, and as far as pop stars go, she isn't a bad role model.

          Well, let's see now. I don't remember the whole story (and I haven't seen the movie yet), but IIRC, she started off as a gospel singer in order to please her religious parents (one of whom was a minister), but then failed or bailed out of that, only to come back as a major pop star. So she has a story that I can relate to personally, and she has some street cred, and she has talent. But even if none of that were true, I would still like her just because she's hot!
