Rules for Submitting

  • Do not post spec work, spec contests, links to logo creation sites, once-off design jobs etc. Legitimate (contractual) hiring posts are permitted but we also recommend: /r/forhire; /r/jobs; /r/picrequests

  • Do not post your own work for the purpose of critique. No critiques or critique requests, /r/design_critiques services these with a great community that are willing to tear shreds out of your work. /r/idesignedthis is a new community just for showing off design work.

  • Do not request free design consultancy. e.g. I'm a non-designer that needs help, what direction should I take my project in? This also includes help vectorizing a raster logo, help with your non-profits poster etc. You can ask /r/picrequests for those type of things.

Definitely a repost.

Also, as far as I understand, it isn't a logo for a real company, but one that a designer included in their portfolio.

People will gripe about it, some will say it isn't well designed, but I think it's brilliant for one very simple reason: it's being talked about months if not years after it was originally designed and people are posting it all over the web.

Assuming this non-existent club wasn't trying to avoid attention for some reason, the attention would surely help attract new members and get current members talking.

How long did Microsoft's new logo get talked about? A week? Two?

There's only so much a logo can do (blasphemy!), but it does show that good design has real, tangible value. I don't know how many members of this community are also subscribed to /r/web_design, but it seems like every other day for the past month someone is reposting the Minneapolis Police Department's (I think) new website.

I know it's golf, and "fun" and "whimsical" aren't words that golfers often use in their day-to-day, but a little fun and whimsy can go a long way in any design. Even if you're designing the new logo for the CIA or a medical waste disposal company.

Are you referring to Milwaukee's site?

somebody needs to make this a reality for the logo alone

All I see are Trojan brand condoms combined with the health meter from Goldeneye 64.

This turns up all the time, but whenever I think of an example of a clever logo, this one is always the first in my mind! Whomever designed this must have felt like amazing for having done it.

It's really easy to make punny logos for companies when you get to both name them and decide what they do.

Do it then. Show us 4 examples that you easily came up with.
