Trying to make sense of the timeline in this comic is crazy, top-down. It's a great read for the curve balls for every character, though:

Bottom-up, everything makes sense. Kid grows up into an alcoholic, absentee father, standard story. His kid is misjudged constantly for wanting to be who he wants to be.

Scare's a kid's mom, but the kid isn't phased, lives her life, has a crush, but it ends badly. The boy, heart broken, holds a grudge his whole life, and teaches his kids to hate as well.

But his son learns a better message - embrace love where you find it. Finds himself a match, though a timid one, a guy so wrapped up in his own head he can't interact well with others. His inaction annoys someone he runs into, who recalls a much simpler time, when she just had to have fun and play with friends.

Her friend recalls the same time as being less simple, her mother always over-stressed and annoyed. What happened that made her so upset?

She was so cheerful, spending so much happy time with her granddad when she was young, never knowing how hard a life he'd had in his youth, and how far he'd come from his rougher days, the days where he'd harassed strangers on the street, strangers who grew up to be alcoholic, absentee fathers...

Excellent! We never found out though, what caused the antagonist from the beginning and end of the story (The guy shouting out "Oi, what are you looking at?") to be such a jerk.

Luke Pearson is brilliant, a lot of his stuff gets me like this. Been thinking about posting another one of his pages here for a month or so.
