At what point in your life do you just wake up one day and go " you know what? Forks doing stuff, thats the answer"

[–]Livinglife91[S] 50 points51 points ago

I work with steel bars normally, welding various large animal sculptures. Had some extra forks and decided, 'Hey, this is steel' and began shaping them. The concept formed as I grew to see just what they could do!

But I haven't been considered 'artistic' until last year. I took a class that opened my eyes to metal art and couldn't stop. :)

[–]AptMoniker 5 points6 points ago

Forgive the art talk, but great job letting the form reveal its story. Great work comes from having that conversation with a medium rather than trying to force an idea. This works on so many levels. If you want to learn how to set up a stop motion, which this would be awesome as, I can get you started!

[–]RecordHigh 43 points44 points ago

As someone who is not particularly creative in the artistic sense, I wondered the same thing.

Is artistic creativity something that can be learned or is it something a person is born with? Does an idea like the one expressed by the OP require effort to develop or does it spring instantly and fully formed from inspiration? I know that the skills required to be a good painter, for example, can be learned and refined through hard work and practice, but where do original and engaging artistic ideas come from?

That's something that has always been a mystery to me.

[–]killahcool 37 points38 points ago

I firmly believe creativity can be learned, but it takes a lot of patience and bad ideas. I do a lot of writing, a lot of good writing at that, but for every page of solid creative material I write, there's a dozen pages of utter shit. And I know it's shit as I'm writing it, but I push through the frustration, pick out the good phrases and sentences when I'm done, and turn those into something.

If you really want to be creative, copy someone else's idea first. When I start writing, I usually start with a basic theme I'm ripping off someone else. Like, I'll start copying my favorite modest mouse lyrics, then when I get to a line I think I could've written better, I change it. Then I take that line and start completely over.

Same goes with drawing or painting or creating any kind of art. When I'm really hard up for inspiration, I grab a stack of old magazines and start cutting out cool pictures, then make a collage, then write something based off that collage. I'm technically proficient at creating stuff, but that spark of inspiration people seek is really hard to come by. Most of the time you have to chase it down. And be willing to create a lot of shit that you later learn from.

[–]dogcrazyjen 14 points15 points ago

You have to start someplace. I make glass beads on a torch. I have many books with pictures of other people's beads, and I often start a sessions copying other people's beads. I quickly start doing my own thing as I get warmed up, and even when I look at the finished products of the copied work it has my own stamp on it, such as size difference, or use of colors, etc. Often the blank page (or mandrel in my case) is the hardest obsticle to overcome. Once something is on it, you are less intimidated and can go for it.

Also as killahcool said, you cannot be terrified of failure. I tried putting copper foil on a bead, and it crisped up to a black char on the glass. I was going to throw it out, but decided to encase it in clear to see if I could salvage the bead. Turns out when you encase copper foil with clear you get tiny bubbles like in ginger ale....looked so cool I made a whole series out of it. Often your mistakes lead you to innovations (even though I am sure many people already discovered this particular one!)

[–]shanoxilt 7 points8 points ago

Livinglife91 has a fifth world problem.

[–]bamf123 256 points257 points ago

Great. Now I need to add zombie forks to my list of fears.

[–]heywhereismycat 28 points29 points ago

I hope this doesn't affect the knives....

[–]utsavman 38 points39 points ago

Does anyone remember that scene in "The beauty and the Beast" where the kitchen tools attack the bad guys ?

[–]garychencool 12 points13 points ago

Fuck.

[–]ThrivesOnDownvotes 503 points504 points ago

I really enjoyed that. Do a stop motion film (more frames!).

[–]FreaknChipsKip 227 points228 points ago

I second this motion!

[–]Dannath 47 points48 points ago

Haaahh... I see what you did here.

[–]Dreddy 18 points19 points ago

We'll need more than two!

I third!

[–]XenthisX 8 points9 points ago

Fourthed

[–]Dreddy 5 points6 points ago

wooh, we got a 0.16 second long clip so far!

[–]NorwegianPearl 16 points17 points ago

Good enough, just loop it.

[–]Require_More_Mineral 6 points7 points ago

This'll be as awesome as Ben's claymay video in Parks and Rec!

[–]basedom 17 points18 points ago

I will donate all the money in my pocket to see this happen

[–]nate81 18 points19 points ago

I'm wearing pajamas.

[–]Claypool2112 18 points19 points ago

I'm not wearing pants...

[–]nate81 9 points10 points ago

WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST SAY?

[–]Claypool2112 19 points20 points ago

I'm wearing pajamas.

[–]nate81 6 points7 points ago

I typed that.

[–]Leonid_Indeed 14 points15 points ago

The Forking Dead!

[–]jandalofdoom 42 points43 points ago

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is a sculpture that has been shot at multiple angles (see last image) - not a series of frames.

[–]Dreddy 14 points15 points ago

Well yes.... But it doesn't change the OP's statement, I too would like to see this in stop motion.

[–]onesteplower 8 points9 points ago

This is beautifully disturbing. I would like to see this in stop motion style animation, in a horror video game.

Or better yet, 360-degree capture of actual stop animation rendered as sprites in a 3d video game to complete the effect. A whole bunch of awesome creepy could come from that! The stop motion with proper lighting and that burnt look on everyday objects hits the uncanny valley in so many good ways.

[–]Dreddy 5 points6 points ago

It would be horribly difficult to do with real forks and you would need hundreds of the same style to replace them when bits break from metal fatigue (I just googled a work for metal being bent till it breaks and that's all I gots).

It would be really interesting to know how it could be done realistically, without CG and plasticine etc which wouldn't look right.

[–]Hoobleton 2 points3 points ago

Isn't the uncanny valley a description relating to human likeness?

[–]rab777hp 1 point2 points ago

Yeah there's an exhibition of this stuff "the feast" in the smart museum in Chicago

[–]MetaIndescribeable 9 points10 points ago

I vote for the Sorcerer's Apprentice as the music...

[–]smooshinator 1 point2 points ago

Set it to 'in the hall of the mountain king'

[–]thombrown 66 points67 points ago

reminds me of the "sculptures" from beetlejuice

[–]RevWaldo 16 points17 points ago

He likes it.

[–]Niner_ 2 points3 points ago

For those too young to know Beetlejuice.

[–]Phoequinox 36 points37 points ago

Get a job with Tim Burton. This reminds me of his classic stuff, like Beetlejuice.

[–]Night_Moose 2 points3 points ago

Ctrl + F'd "Tim Burton". I give you my upvote before I leave.

[–]McBurger 1 point2 points ago

Ctrl+F "ctrl+f" found you and shook my head in shame

[–]BFofBobbieluvsya 2 points3 points ago

Ctrl + F'd Ctrl+F "ctrl+f", and noticed someone was already doing a good job . . . keep it up!

[–]Highbard 28 points29 points ago

Please. It's just a normal lunch at Tim Burton's house.

[–]Livinglife91[S] 20 points21 points ago

Better images uploaded!

I have but one simple request:

Send me your forks please.

Julia Andalora Box 0164 10 MacVittie Circle Geneseo, New York 14454

[–]whatwhatwhat82 16 points17 points ago

They look like bugs. Freakishly artistic bugs.

[–]panickingman55 16 points17 points ago

That is awesome. I am envious of your creativity.

[–]RDJesse 13 points14 points ago

Silverwarewolves.

[–]PixelVector 6 points7 points ago

I'm guessing all this silver ammunition I saved for a 'ware-creature apocalypse' is useless now right?

[–]bretstar 8 points9 points ago

So that's where all the forks go.

[–]chalklady0 5 points6 points ago

Were-table ware. Fantastic. Does it do this when the moon is full?

[–]wtfarewelookinat 6 points7 points ago

Forking phenomenally freaky. Love it. Thanks for sharing. Great artwork. True artist you are.

[–]jeebus_krist 16 points17 points ago

What kind of twisted fork puts pepper on french fries?

[–]WalterKowalski 3 points4 points ago

The best kind.

[–]RegalTerror 4 points5 points ago

Came with no expectations, left very satisfied. Well done.

[–]sweet_chick283 5 points6 points ago

well I know what the guest features of my nightmares will be tonight... but awesome none the less!

[–]DeathByOrgasm 6 points7 points ago

So very creepy and cool. For some reason they remind me of the brooms in Fantasia.

[–]itsbraille 2 points3 points ago

I could hear the bassoon solo looking at this pictures.

[–]talkw 4 points5 points ago

Who's the artist? Also-DO A STOP MOTION VIDEO!

[–]slagdwarf 4 points5 points ago

I heard Danny Elfman music in my head

[–]Esk1m0 3 points4 points ago

VERY cool man..!

[–]AscendantJustice 2 points3 points ago

This would actually be a really cool way to hold things. You should look into making a profit on this. I'd buy it if I saw it in a store.

[–]alurkerwhomanedup 3 points4 points ago

I'm weirded out and captivated at the same time. Good show, OP.

[–]TazD 4 points5 points ago

Sigh why are some people more creative then me?

[–]Andygoesrawr 2 points3 points ago

Thank you for not putting this in /r/WTF like some idiots would have.

[–]jbrown88 2 points3 points ago

Well that's a big waste of food and forks..

[–]kinda_fellin 4 points5 points ago

Salad fingers approves.

[–]bartykins 3 points4 points ago

They look like tiny Reapers, mass effect on the brain.

[–]Noke100 2 points3 points ago

That is extremely creepy and extremely well done!

[–]MK19 2 points3 points ago

Creepy and awesome, all at the same time :D

[–]FeedMeMoranis 1 point2 points ago

Next time have them hunt a party of wandering teaspoons.

[–]dugness 2 points3 points ago

Terrifyingly Amazing.

[–]balloftape 1 point2 points ago

The stab it with their steely knives forks but they just can't kill the beast...

[–]thefappityfap 2 points3 points ago

FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

[–]SpaceOdysseus 2 points3 points ago

I really thought you just accidentally melted your forks at first.

[–]incith 2 points3 points ago

(Best I could find for some reason...without thorough looking)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yC_XDKmVyk was totally playing in my head watching this. Very cool.

[–]treelzebub 2 points3 points ago

Delia, you are a flake. You have always been a flake. If you want to scare someone, do it with your sculpture.

[–]MissTwilda 1 point2 points ago

This made me think of Coraline. Or more like the hands of her "mother". Creepy...

[–]voice_like_beyonce 2 points3 points ago

Cool as hell. I'd like to see an incorporation of other utensils like in a civil war type battle fighting over/with food.

[–]The_designer_pro 1 point2 points ago

your wife must be crazy mad about you destroying the silverware..

[–]b1g3l 2 points3 points ago

I never enjoyed art… until this

(a single tear rolls down my cheek)

[–]cdl1216 1 point2 points ago

That truly is cool. Like b1g3l, I am not an art connoisseur but that is really awesome and creative. Upvote for you sir/mam...

[–]GoLightLady 1 point2 points ago

Haha! Great concept! It starts off looking a little creepy, gave me a definite Tim Burton vibe. But I could kind of see the vision and the subsequent photos are wonderful and i really like the title.

[–]Bravo929 2 points3 points ago

True art

[–]wes328 1 point2 points ago

Is this the poster for the new Tim Burton movie?

[–]Avandra 1 point2 points ago

Tim Burton would be proud.

[–]Gex007 1 point2 points ago

Now i'm hungry.

[–]not_so_busybox 1 point2 points ago

This really reminds me of the bugs in Starship Troopers

[–]insanityarise 1 point2 points ago

Chopsticks from now on then...

[–]Majax2 0 points1 point ago

I think this loses something with the table cloth. I'm not buying the lace.

[–]roland1014 -1 points0 points ago

At first I thought I found something that actually did belong in /r/WTF

[–]ychamel 1 point2 points ago

plot twist, that's not an art work...

[–]Vectorsxx 0 points1 point ago

Before you know it they'll eat you in your sleep. The cannibals.

[–]Schobbo 0 points1 point ago

really nice, didn't know forks could be so creepy :D

[–]FapFapNinja 1 point2 points ago

That was so cool.

[–]ehypersonic 0 points1 point ago

Shut up and take my fork's

[–]haxorjimduggan 1 point2 points ago

If that's your own creation, then kudos. Makes for a nice installation, and the person suggesting a stop motion film is spot on.

[–]rugmuncher 0 points1 point ago

this should be in wtf cos i was like wtf

[–]simon_wang12 0 points1 point ago

Man this is the fuel of my nightmares. Never knew cutlery could be so terrifying.

[–]camy-vedder 0 points1 point ago

For some reason this reminds me of Beetlejuice

[–]stalk 1 point2 points ago

Thats why you never invite Uri Geller.

[–]Desmodi 0 points1 point ago

I'm going to go lock my cutlery drawer now.

[–]clea 1 point2 points ago

You deserve more than just a little karma recognition. These are great!

[–]nitpickr 1 point2 points ago

Better script than most hollywood movies. 10/10 would watch again.

[–]Bundleofjooy 0 points1 point ago

Tim Burton? S'that you!?

[–]fragilemeadow 1 point2 points ago

This will be an excellent salt and pepper holder for /r/Frugal

[–]drfeelgood15 0 points1 point ago

this is pretty awesome

[–]dotheraptor37 1 point2 points ago

This is one of the scariest, most incredibly awesome things I've ever seen. Most succulent.

[–]thatmuchofalife 0 points1 point ago

I feel weird.

[–]wilsonw 0 points1 point ago

Source?

[–]Livinglife91[S] 3 points4 points ago

It's my piece- the background changes from a room in my house to a gallery at the school where it currently sits. I refuse to change the burger while it's there, so I'm going to see how it decomposes.

[–]Omniabsence -1 points0 points ago

Shocked and confused when I seen sub wasn't 'WTF'.

[–]photojoe 1 point2 points ago

be our guest, be our guest, put our service to the test!

[–]JMunn21 0 points1 point ago

That is like soo Dalí

[–]MightyJoeBong 0 points1 point ago

This is the ultimate "don't play with your food," propaganda.

[–]Roscoe246 1 point2 points ago

That's creepy and amazing. Love it.

[–]ProcrastinationMan -1 points0 points ago

NOPE.jpg

[–]skytiger859 1 point2 points ago

It's artistic and creative, but it scared the shit out of me. Good job!

[–]orchdork7926 1 point2 points ago

I like rusty spoons...

[–]bucketofchestnuts 0 points1 point ago

Dear god, this is horrifying. If I ever find any rusty, gnarled cutlery creeping around my kitchen I will definitely have to move house

[–]snisnasnappi 0 points1 point ago

creepy

[–]seven721 0 points1 point ago

This reminds me of The movie Beetlejuice

[–]ThatChap 0 points1 point ago

Oh, fuck you. Now I have a fear of cutlery.

[–]intellectuality -1 points0 points ago

I couldn't help but wonder why they were burnt black. It really detracted from the overall "scene."

[–]WBudWhite 0 points1 point ago

So gnarly.

[–]jaimeelo 0 points1 point ago

I'm scared.

[–]velaniswin 0 points1 point ago

Very creative, would like to see more.

[–]slashasdf 0 points1 point ago

Damn, your dishwasher gets way too hot!

[–]1324356565 0 points1 point ago

Brilliant.

[–]RandyMachoManSavage 1 point2 points ago

Now this is art.

[–]blockpro156 0 points1 point ago

now i'm afraid to eat my dinner with anything else than my hands >:( say sorry to my mom!

[–]Crimson_Serenity 0 points1 point ago

So creepy and amazingly interesting at the same time. Have an upvote!

[–]hcumberdale1 0 points1 point ago

I had the music from Fantasia playing in my head while looking at these.

[–]jungleredux 0 points1 point ago

Tim Burton should hire you

[–]XAMOTA 0 points1 point ago

Great, now along with everything else I have fucking panic attacks over, you had to add flatware to the list. Thanks!

[–]carpe_meme 0 points1 point ago

Somehow Beauty and the Beast made this seem far less creepier.

Love it.

[–]flourish_or_expire 0 points1 point ago

starring johnny depp - directed by tim burton

[–]matsiinthecity 0 points1 point ago

Like a creepy version of Beauty and the Beast. I love it

[–]TomcatZ06 0 points1 point ago

[–]stetsonjoe 0 points1 point ago

You live in the creepiest house of all time

[–]Motourist 1 point2 points ago

I am thoroughly freaked the fuck out by this, but I... Like. it?

[–]sindr0220 1 point2 points ago

that is so forked up

[–]dawntreader22 1 point2 points ago

This is GREAT!

[–]awesomeck 0 points1 point ago

OK it's time to burn the house now

[–]BossCharlie13 0 points1 point ago

Tim Burton just got a boner.

[–]I_am_BEOWULF 0 points1 point ago

This confirms my suspicion that the reason I keep missing forks from time to time is that the bastards have been canoodling with the butter knives.

[–]GolgiApparatus88 0 points1 point ago

Stay out of my kitchen, kid!

[–]warsamemo 1 point2 points ago

That was a surprise. I was not expecting what I was about to see to be that good. well done my friend.

[–]ramenoodles103 0 points1 point ago

Is this Tim Burton's kitchen?

[–]dommie 1 point2 points ago

That is cool

[–]squirrladore 1 point2 points ago

Am I the only person that hears the song from Fantasia (when the brooms come to life) while going thru these photos?

[–]Rubber_DUCKIE92 1 point2 points ago

This is awesome. It kind of reminds me of Tim Burton's work.

[–]wisenheimer 0 points1 point ago

This happened to me when I made the mistake of inviting Uri Geller to dinner.

[–]reddit8670 0 points1 point ago

Takhomasak?

[–]Serath62 1 point2 points ago

This is creepy as fuck but awesome

[–]myactualaccount 1 point2 points ago

I have those same plates.

[–]rdpulfer 1 point2 points ago

I. Want.

[–]CauseImBatman 1 point2 points ago

[–]SnoopyChicken 0 points1 point ago

I had the Fantasia music playing in my head.

[–]Sgajewski 1 point2 points ago

I love this! This is awesome! Great job, super creative!

[–]MasterMahan 1 point2 points ago

Damn it, Magneto, this is why no one invites you over for dinner.

[–]Diabetesh 1 point2 points ago

Salad fingers?

[–]Sgtpepper203 1 point2 points ago

Directed by Tim Burton.

[–]mdax8414 0 points1 point ago

7 and 8 are the best. Shoulda led off with those; I didn't know wtf I was looking at, at first.

[–]behn12 0 points1 point ago

They look like little clumsy silver giraffes in the last picture.

[–]danowar 0 points1 point ago

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to pepper my french fries, anyway.

[–]Prone_Blocked 1 point2 points ago

I don't know how you thought of this or why you did, but I am glad you did.

[–]Raeman91 0 points1 point ago

Directed by Tim Burton.

[–]Iam_Thesame 1 point2 points ago

Nice work!

[–]inyourway 1 point2 points ago

This is awesome. If you made it you need to make some more!

[–]iloveslug 0 points1 point ago

These could be Salvador Dali paintings. Except they're forks, not clocks.

[–]WhyAmINotStudying 0 points1 point ago

Hey diddle diddle,
The Cat and the fiddle,
The Cow jumped over the moon,
The little Dog laughed
To see such craft,
And the Dish ran away with the Spoon

[–]Bradical420 0 points1 point ago

wtf

[–]Salamanagement 0 points1 point ago

Would make a good short movie.

[–]Xymia 0 points1 point ago

You have the same salt and pepper shaker as I do as well as the same kind of plate.

[–]Livinglife91[S] 1 point2 points ago

Walmaaaart

[–]barrywheresbarry 0 points1 point ago

MMAAAAAAH I DON'T LIKE WHERE THIS IS GOING

[–]londrel69 1 point2 points ago

As an artist myself, this is very beautiful. I have not seen anything like this before so I'm always interested to see what's out there

[–]darkwave90[!] 0 points1 point ago

Awesome! Did you have help from your Alakazam to do this?

[–]Johwi 1 point2 points ago

Now this is art I can get behind!

[–]squirrlyfrodo 1 point2 points ago

Is this at ArtPrize this year??

[–]TandX 0 points1 point ago

Is this a Tool music video?

[–]OppositeImage 0 points1 point ago

That's so adorable I nearly shat myself.

[–]sentientleaf 0 points1 point ago

That's pretty forked up

[–]FaeKade 0 points1 point ago

That's stupid. Forks don't have mouths, they're made out of metal.

[–]mackattack180 0 points1 point ago

This is just really creative! very cool

[–]Redditisquiteamazing 0 points1 point ago

Does anyone else see Tim Burton in this? It is good, but it looks like Tim Burton, no?

[–]Reoh 1 point2 points ago

If you start selling these, call me. I want them for my table. In fact, I don't even have a table. I will buy a table just so that these have somewhere to go.

[–]AT724 1 point2 points ago

This pretty cool and little creepy.
