So he reposted a post that was a lie to begin with. Can we go deeper?

[–]anariston 4 points5 points ago

And yet there was a meteor! Shame neither OP nor I could grab a photo of it before it disappeared.

[–]IDoNotAgreeWithYou 22 points23 points ago

Does this really belong in /r/science? It's like me putting a picture of a car up on /r/science just because it uses technology like the radio. Put this in /r/pics or something.

[–]Wallross 15 points16 points ago

The sidebar explicitly states that simply linking to an image is not allowed.

[–]CampBenCh 8 points9 points ago

I hate this. I tried submitting an article that Yellowstone NP wildlife biologists wrote and it was deleted because it wasn't from a PEER REVIEWED journal.

And then I see stuff like this make it onto r/Science

[–]Lunares 0 points1 point ago

It will get removed whenever the mods see it I'm sure.

[–]MaxChaplin 0 points1 point ago

It's a well known fact that everything in space is made of science. That's why everything space-related is welcome in this sub, even if it's simple trivia.

[–]clickityclank 15 points16 points ago

ohforf is the douche because that picture is over 2 years old. OP probably just didn't know any better. Well maybe that's too much of a coincidence. I guess they're both douches.

edit: Well, the ESA says it was over the netherlands in oct 2009.

Are you suggesting it's short for Geologist George, the Geo driving Georgian?

[–]aequitas3 0 points1 point ago

of course. my mom read me all those books as a kid. It was a curious poor hipster driving his cheap craigslist car, doing research for the USGS. Unless by Georgian you mean former Soviet Bloc Georgia, and then, it still applies, with subtle tweaking to what I already had posted. I think he was a monkey, but more likely he was a slow loris.

[–]Caesarr 2 points3 points ago

Why is he a douche? He didn't claim it was his photo, and he posted it in a different subreddit to the original submission. As far as I can tell the only thing he can be accused of is not supplying the source, and that hardly calls for language as strong as "douche".

[–]MaximusQuackhandle -3 points-2 points ago

Usually, the user would advise the op of the original post, that this would also be appreciated in another subreddit, so the owner of the picture could bask in the glory of upvotes.

A user could also cross post, by linking directly to the original post, again, so the owner of the image would recieve the karma.

Personally, the number next to my username is of no importance, but it is to other people, and in respect of that, don't steal posts!

[–]kingdorke1 -1 points0 points ago

Most likely just a douche, unfortunately.

[–]MaliDenali -5 points-4 points ago

Either YOU are ohforf, OR your JUST a douche.

[–]squarerabbits 3 points4 points ago

[–]anariston 0 points1 point ago

Quite a few of those results are at least six months old, but the top one from Dalbeattie is what I saw last night.

[–]squarerabbits 0 points1 point ago

does it not limit the videos to 'Uploaded Today' on your end when I post the search results?

[–]anariston 0 points1 point ago

Nope, not until I clicked 'filter results' and chose 'uploaded today.'

[–]squarerabbits 0 points1 point ago

Welp, now I know. Fixed it, thanks mang.

[–]-Hastis- 3 points4 points ago

I though this subreddit was just about posting peer reviewed researches?

[–]xPasas 2 points3 points ago

Son of a bitch, OP, this is a repost of a repost of possibly another repost. Give it a rest, damnit.

[–]PieRevelry 2 points3 points ago

Just a tardis

[–]scratchisme 0 points1 point ago

[–]Godfarber 2 points3 points ago

Oh shit, the Doctors at it again...

[–]throwawayawayawa 0 points1 point ago

[–]mqueener -1 points0 points ago

[–]natb84 1 point2 points ago

Thought it was a crashing plane or somthing at the time! It was pretty awesome!

[–]krompir1 0 points1 point ago

[–]Warpanda3000 1 point2 points ago

[–]Hedgepig2 0 points1 point ago

Saw this go right past my house last night

[–]glogloglo 0 points1 point ago

This was a video posted like less than 24 hours ago dude ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df89jhMjLXY&feature=player_embedded

It JUST happened

[–]glogloglo 0 points1 point ago

The mother fucker got lucky on accident, posted a fake photo, but then there ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO BE A FUCKING METEOR OVER THE UK. WHAT THAT FUCK...

[–]Liquid_Fire 0 points1 point ago

Or maybe.. they were looking for pictures of it to post online, but found an old one?

[–]Edgemo1984 0 points1 point ago

I saw this. Was my first ever meteor sighting. I felt very proud!

[–]Epicshark -1 points0 points ago

I saw this on the astronomy subreddit.

[–]Sullan08 0 points1 point ago

Me and my friend were actually in his hot tub a couple hours ago and saw a meteor like this. Could see the trail and everything. It was pretty amazing.

[–]unicornsfartgliter 1 point2 points ago

I thought pics were not allowed on /r/science....

[–]solastalgic 1 point2 points ago

Not a meteor, just David Cameron's career going down in flames.

[–]grim_jow 0 points1 point ago

This means im gonna be king right? Raise your banners.

[–]Adium_Rhodan 0 points1 point ago

It's not a meteor but the TARDIS anyway.

[–]me-tan 0 points1 point ago

I was wondering what the fuck that was! I was heading into the Dartford Tunnel at the time. I didn't know if it was me looking head on into landing lights of a jet coming into Gatwick but it wasn't moving right.

[–]bearchubs 0 points1 point ago

Don't even need to go outside to see meteors 'n shit!

[–]aknyfl94 0 points1 point ago

Fool me once, shame on you......Fool us on reddit, Never.

[–]Cthulhu-Hoop 0 points1 point ago

Doctor?

[–]jaqqzorr 1 point2 points ago

You're welcome, world.

[–]TWanderer -1 points0 points ago

Now the question is, where are the dragons ?

[–]bellends 0 points1 point ago

Apparently, this is a video of it posted 3 hours ago on the website of UK news station Sky News.

I'm not in England, and I didn't see it myself so I can't confirm if this is what people saw, but it does match the description I've been getting from my UK friends.

[–]LeSpatula 0 points1 point ago

So it begins.

[–]MrBlueSkye 0 points1 point ago

Space junk coming home.

[–]IsackArroz -1 points0 points ago

Dragons are coming... in like 5 books

[–]Ardn -1 points0 points ago

something something game of thrones reference

[–]Shisty -3 points-2 points ago

[–]calamity88 -2 points-1 points ago

omg thank you! I got off my train I was travelling on after watching football and I saw that travelling across the sky and I didn't have a clue what it was...been searching all the news to see whether anything terrible had happened but then figured it was probably a meteor but was searching for confirmation.

It looked amazing! And it was visible for aaages. I'm in the North West of England btw.

[–]phatboi23 1 point2 points ago

I saw it too :) was awesome everybody just stopped and stared at it last night. :)

[–]dustyjuicebox 1 point2 points ago

This picture is 2 years old. You saw a UFO clearly.

[–]faultyproboscus -2 points-1 points ago

Those aren't meteors. They're parts of the spaceship, burning up in the atmosphere.

...This isn't snow, it's ash.

[–]nuinbot 0 points1 point ago

Doctor Who reference. I want to say it is the first Tennant Christmas episode with the Sycorax, but I could be wrong.

[–]Quazijoe -3 points-2 points ago

Yeah.... Meteor... ಠ_ಠ

[–]skyman724 -1 points0 points ago

Of course it's a meteor. I would know, being a Sky Man.

ಠ◡ಠ

[–]Quazijoe 0 points1 point ago
