"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

yes the multiplayer was the best ever

[–]Celliers 5 points6 points ago

It was so good I used to play it alone. I'd play it like an RTS.

[–]K__a__M__I 1 point2 points ago

With two controllers? Why didn't i think of this???

[–]RothKyle 2 points3 points ago

It was SO much fun to do.

I would play with two controllers and obtain two bases on opposite sides of the map from each other. Then, I would send all ten of each team's troops at each other at the same time, pick up one controller, and immerse myself in the most photorealistic, intense, destructive warfare of all time.

[–]Ohelig 3 points4 points ago

On that note, am I the only one who could never get the multitap to work on this game?

[–]RothKyle 0 points1 point ago

You are not alone. Not at all.

[–]Dunster12 27 points28 points ago

Yes!

[–]Timmo885[S] 19 points20 points ago

Probably on my top 5 gamecube games. Can't remember how many times I replayed it.

[–]kirreen 2 points3 points ago

It's so awesome!

[–]indyK1ng 2 points3 points ago

It's one of the few games that was on all systems, but I think the Gamecube's disc size may have limited it. Some parts of the story, particularly later on, felt like they'd been rushed/cut for size.

[–]Warbird36 1 point2 points ago

That wasn't just the Gamecube. The game did have some pacing problems with its story.

[–]indyK1ng 0 points1 point ago

I know that it wasn't just the Gamecube. I played it on the PS2. What I was getting at is it felt like they cut it down so that it would fit on the Gamecube and they wanted to provide a uniform experience across platforms.

[–]Hingleton 5 points6 points ago

For me the real value was in the multiplayer. Even if they just released that so you could play online with no split-screen I would be happy.

[–]corr0sive 7 points8 points ago

On one of the last levels there was a Freedom Fighter using Molotovs as his weapon. And as you know, the FF bots dont run out of ammo.

So i got to play the rest of that campaign with a man chunking fire at everyone. I'd be zoomed in shooting at a guy, and suddenly a burst of fire come into my scope and the guy is on fire now.

[–]crussiam 12 points13 points ago

I got Homefront for the 360 when it came out hoping it would be like this. It was fun, sure, but lacked the greatness of Freedom Fighters.

[–]renegademk1 6 points7 points ago

I had nothing but fond memories recreating Red Dawn in my mind playing this. Id use that "Take my money now!" Meme, but I am too lazy.

[–]TheForceiswithus 8 points9 points ago

They made one; it's called Syria.

[–]Boberg 6 points7 points ago

Sadly it's EA and not Io Interactive that owns the right to the name, so a sequel probably won't happen.

[–]gfletch1 4 points5 points ago

Is that the game where Luigi saves the world from Communists?

[–]BrianKid 2 points3 points ago

In my top 5 of all time video games. Probably number 2 or 3. I want to play it again right now. Four player multiplayer was awesome as well.

[–]soggysocks 3 points4 points ago

I remember this game had a Halo 2 ending too where nothing in the story was resolved. I loved that game but was enraged at the ending. I felt empty and abandoned by freedom fighters :(

[–]Timmo885[S] 4 points5 points ago

It definitely felt that too, you fight so hard and get through so much frustration for not so much glory as you expect.

[–]ShogunMarcus86 1 point2 points ago

That's where the game mirror Red Dawn too much for me. At least have something triumphant about getting the bastard who double crossed the resistance.

[–]Celliers 3 points4 points ago

I think development was turned into Kane and Lynch. Either way, I'd love a sequel...

[–]moo_moose 3 points4 points ago

You can definitely see it in the gameplay mechanics, which is why i played kane and lynch.

[–]TheFreedomPhantom 2 points3 points ago

^ ^ ^ Relevant Username ^ ^ ^

[–]Masturdate 1 point2 points ago

[–]Timmo885[S] 3 points4 points ago

That level is a bitch I remember.

[–]ShogunMarcus86 1 point2 points ago

The only way I could top that level was just spray like crazy with the PKM.

[–]Warbird36 1 point2 points ago

You had to leapfrog from cover to cover until you could get the RPG. Then you used that to demolish the remaining guard tower and chopper.

[–]Tetha 2 points3 points ago

I'm just sad I can't play the first part anymore because they based the physics speed on the fps, making everything go way too fast.

[–]badduderescuesprez 1 point2 points ago

This game was so great, one of the few from that generation that I not only replayed, but actually played completely through 3 times. So much fun.

[–]Gamin_Guru 1 point2 points ago

Before I bought a PS2 this was on my list. I never did get a chance to play it.

[–]karamsoul 2 points3 points ago

Heck yes! I have fond memories of playing this game. Had a really good story and an enveloping atmosphere.

[–]Rellik_pt 1 point2 points ago

one of my favourite games of all time. still waiting for the sequel

[–]Jadex9 1 point2 points ago

Loved that game, shame they never made a sequel.

[–]cjlonghorn25 2 points3 points ago

glad i wasn't the only one who enjoyed this game

[–]MainHaze 1 point2 points ago

Yup! Most definitely..

[–]DaytonF7 1 point2 points ago

Really fun with friends

[–]willkill224 1 point2 points ago

In the end the character ( I'm dumb I forgot the name) said the Russians will be back with more force they have to make a sequel

[–]K__a__M__I 1 point2 points ago

Every time someone brings this up i have to play it again. Then i want a sequel. Then i get haunted by images of how it would look like with todays graphics. Then i have to forget it. And when i finally managed to distract myself someone does a post like this and the cycle begins anew.

Thanks, btw. I love you.

[–]Timmo885[S] 1 point2 points ago

No problem :-D and... and i love you too.

[–]K__a__M__I 1 point2 points ago

Now k...hold this position!

[–]TheDoppleganger 2 points3 points ago

There's a thread about "What video game would you like to see made into a movie?" Freedom Fighters completely neglected in there. Be a fun take on the evil Russians vs Action Hero.

[–]FattyWantTwinky 2 points3 points ago

Its called Red Dawn and was made in the 80's. This is like Red Dawn the video game.

[–]Roaven 1 point2 points ago

Still have it, still works on my 360

[–]Attican 1 point2 points ago

This was my first PS2 game. I played through it about 20 times. My favorite game of all time. What kept me coming back was the music more than anything. I have it on my ipod :D

[–]dee_c 1 point2 points ago

Would make a very good co-op game - although Homefront did the invasion thing recently, I liked the third person/soldier recruiting/order giving in multiplayer.

[–]maxnb 1 point2 points ago

yes yes yes loved the game

[–]Morvictus 1 point2 points ago

They made one, it was called Kane and Lynch: Dead Men. Now THAT is a game I'd love a sequel to. Anyone who claims Dog Days was a sequel apparently didn't play the same game I did.

[–]bobbygabbagool 1 point2 points ago

Yes, and someone asked last week.

[–]Jedimaster1134 1 point2 points ago

I was playing this literally 5 minutes ago. So much nostalgia pouring over me. I love this game!

[–]alpharowe3 1 point2 points ago

Top 10 GC game for me. Loved that game, beat it a few dozen times.

[–]Tomcat1994 1 point2 points ago

You know, I actually bought this for about fifty cents at a thrift store just a few weeks ago. I can definitely say I'm waiting for a sequel to it!

[–]Doomguy13 1 point2 points ago

Oh man, this game was awesome!

[–]dikGrAYson 1 point2 points ago

THIS GAME WAS AWESOME. This and Timesplitters 2 were so legit

[–]Timmo885[S] 0 points1 point ago

Another game I spent countless hours on

[–]Breezeplease 1 point2 points ago

"That was close!"

[–]MoRicketyTick 1 point2 points ago

OMG YES

[–]WookieeSlappa -1 points0 points ago

No, I played it on gamecube and didnt think very much of it.

[–]jangledorf 1 point2 points ago

Oh boy this game. I remember hearing rumors that IO said that a sequel was on their to-do list, but that was around 5-6 years ago. So I lost all hope for a sequel, but still hold on the the fond memories I've had playing the campaign and multiplayer.

[–]fadedthought 1 point2 points ago

I remember when Kane and Lynch first came out they said they would do a sequel for freedom fighters right after.

Then mini ninjas and K&L2 came out. Now they're doing absolution. They need to just do another freedom fighters. Homefront was great, but it just wasn't as good as FF. =/

[–]Renegadeboy 1 point2 points ago

Have a copy of this for pc somewhere...now I need to rip apart my office trying to find it.

[–]TheColmODonnell -1 points0 points ago

I'M sorry you ever went on that site

[–]mcrmarine 0 points1 point ago

Will there ever be a released sequel to this game?

[–]KicksButtson 0 points1 point ago

Loved this game so much! Great story! Great gameplay! Great multiplayer! They should remake it just because they're coming out with that Red Dawn remake soon. They'd go hand and hand.

[–]LeisurlySniper 0 points1 point ago

I loved that game! Anyone know where aI can get a copy for Xbox?

[–]LordNikon452 0 points1 point ago

Hell yes.

[–]GoToHellDave 0 points1 point ago

Would love to play a sequel to this as long as EA stay far far away from it.

[–]made2last 0 points1 point ago

I remember seeing the trailer for Turning Point, and thinking it reminded me of this game, and actually looking forward to it hoping it would be similar. Holy shit was I disappointed. 5 minutes in and I was glad I worked at a game store to try it and could tell everyone to buy anything but Turning Point.

[–]sexcells 0 points1 point ago

This and Freelancer get brought up at least 3 times a month, and they always get a shit-load of upvotes.

[–]Majil229 -2 points-1 points ago

Nope.

[–]kimser 0 points1 point ago

You can still play it if you get an emulator. Though i also wish so much for a sequel

[–]Orelio 6 points7 points ago

It.. exists on PC. You don't need an emulator.

[–]kimser 1 point2 points ago

Ya don't say? Well, I guess i'm just used to playing it on consoles as i did when i was young..

[–]Wafflemonster2 2 points3 points ago

I had absolutely no idea that it was on the PC. Thank you, I now have something to do.

[–]Wafflemonster2 0 points1 point ago

[–]R3ap3r973 0 points1 point ago

Post a link to a 6th gen emulator.

[–]MainHaze 10 points11 points ago

You can run it on Dolphin... better yet... get a copy of the PC version.

[–]IhateAngryBirds 2 points3 points ago

I'm still waiting for this game to appear at GOG

[–]brewed849 0 points1 point ago

Omfg so much nostalgia! Amidoingitrite? But seriously, this game brought me and my brother together with a common interest I can never thank the developers enough for.

[–]Castigar2000 -3 points-2 points ago

Unfortunately, Gears of War has tighter gameplay, and Ghost Recon has better/more fluid squad mechanics. So no.

Besides, I only have room for one group of sewer-dwelling badasses in my heart.

[–]fuckinsmith -4 points-3 points ago

[–]Hectorial 1 point2 points ago

I actually bought the sound track to this game... and tropico.

[–]Timmo885[S] 2 points3 points ago

No music doesn't come to memory, are you trying to say I'm re-posting?

[–]fuckinsmith 1 point2 points ago

the music was the best part, man

[–]Timmo885[S] 1 point2 points ago

Now that I watched the trailer the music is amazing.

[–]Warbird36 1 point2 points ago

You know what's even more awesome?

IT'S ON iTUNES.
