Time to call the local concrete guy and start building yourself a vault room.

i recommend walling off part of your basement with cinder blocks. add a heavy door with a good lock and there you go, your own personal armory.

Pro-tip: put in a bench and get some reloading supplies to fully justify to the wife, saves money on ammo.

Unless you pour a high slump concrete down in the cinderblocks with rebar and vibration, it would only be moderately secure. An average person can make a man-sized hole in a standard cinderblock wall in fairly short order with a sledgehammer. I'd prefer a poured concrete wall and ceiling design, with lots of reinforcing steel and possibly some hardened aggregate to discourage drilling. Add a nice vault door and you should be good to go.

absolutely, im certainly not advocating the simple stacking of cinder blocks to create a secure room.

also, vault doors are great, but pricey. my major problem with them is that they are very conspicuous. personally i prefer a more low key look. there are armored doors that look like normal doors, you can even get away with a serious wood door and some door jam reinforcement like this.

You can also do a double door, standard door with key'd deadbolt on the outside, opening to the internal vault door. There's also the old sliding bookcase (or armoire, cabinet, etc) , a classic.

Or do a double door in conjunction with the sliding bookcase. Someone finds your secret passage, opens it up, and SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER, you're not getting in here without some serious shaped charges.

Meanwhile, keep all your guns in your closet. They'll never look for them there.

i hadn't thought to do the double door, i like that idea...

[–]orthagFuck you, I have a revolver. 0 points1 point ago

Sledgehammer? I've bashed a hole in cinder block wall with a blacksmith's hammer.

My first thought: this is going to take heavy machinery to excavate. Good... good...
