Beware of trading scammers!

A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports).

"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

I just put up a video today covering the new features of 2013 over 2012

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGdZY6XKTuo&feature=plcp

Skip to 6:40 if you just want to look at trains :)

Its a really good game (if you like trains) if you don't then its still worth getting but I'd pick it up in the steam sales when it goes for around $15.

It has a level editor as well as free-roaming modes so you can basically use it as a virtual model train-set if you want as well as a simulator.

The main changes in 2013 over 2012 seem to be better graphics, nicer UI that's allot easer to use for people that are more casual about trains and generally just more polish over 2012.

How much can you free roam in a railroad game? I mean, you're pretty much restricted to forward and backward aren't you.

[–]ironfortified 1 point2 points ago

He means sandbox.

[–]gamermusclevideos 1 point2 points ago

You can go to free fly cam and look around then pick any train you want that's on the line. But you are right you are limited to the train line.

[–]Jay_Normous 0 points1 point ago

That's disappointing. I had fantasies of trains playfully frolicking through the fields and mountains

[–]ck_nz 1 point2 points ago

Wow.. As I said on the page. My gf and I just watched 11 mins of that... Im gonna ask to see the front of the next train I ride...

[–]Sle 0 points1 point ago

That video was wonderfully "Enthusiast" - almost escapism.

Fired up 2013, scenario crashed, went back to watching porn.

Poor Gearbox, making the mistake of releasing Borderlands 2 at the same time.

[–]Yakmotek7 9 points10 points ago

Or is this a new cross-branding opportunity?? <opens loot chest, discovers diesel locomotive!> Stats: +2 Choo +1 Motherfucker

Why do these kinds of games get so much flack from the gaming community? Most people into these kinds of games aren't playing them for fun, as they do other genres. People who are interested in trains buy these games because it's a good way to learn how trains work.

I used to play the Flight Simulator games all the time because I like airplanes. I enjoyed how the game simulated how planes work. I didn't play the game for fun. They're educational games basically.

[–]Matosawitko 0 points1 point ago

People make fun of what they don't understand or don't find interesting - as if their opinion matters to anyone else.

I also play a number of simulations in addition to more 'traditional' games. However, I'd reword your statement - people DO play for fun too, they just find different things to be fun.

[–]GuitarWizard90 1 point2 points ago

Trains are something that a lot of people throughout the world are interested in. They would buy a game like this in order to learn more. That's what separates games from simulations.

[–]peanutbuttahcups 0 points1 point ago

I just saw the box for Flight Simulator X at work last week. The only one I played was Flight Simulator 2000 that came with a bunch of EA games with a Compaq desktop my family had when I was young. That game and the WWII Pacific Theater one was the the bee's knees outside of the PS1 we had.

[–]ItsBail 0 points1 point ago

When I was a kid, I enjoyed seeing "the big trains" and it was fasinating. It was to the point that I saved up and purchased a HO scale kit because that would be closest I'd ever get to drive a train. However those model trains can get very expensive and take up a lot of space of which I don't have. When I saw it up on the Steam summer sale, I took advantage of it and got my $2.99 worth from it.

[–]X-Craft 0 points1 point ago

It's not flak. They're just kidding, exactly because they know these sim games are made for a very specific audience, opposed to AAA games that target as many people as possible.

[–]Ididerus 0 points1 point ago

they're called "serious games", and no Call of Duty fan can take that wounding to their pride.

[–]janitroll 4 points5 points ago

Blaine is a pain, and that is the truth

[–]bobawesome 4 points5 points ago

Choo-choo, thought Jake, and shuddered.

[–]Sir_Von_Tittyfuck 8 points9 points ago

I'm gonna take out a loan for all the fucking DLC that's bound to come out.

[–]johnnynutman 1 point2 points ago

i really don't understand how to do anything in this game. not the actual train driving (which i dont care that much about), but the designing of tracks.

[–]Thefriendlyfaceplant 4 points5 points ago

Clearly you and this game weren't meant to be. Step aside mortal.

[–]johnnynutman 0 points1 point ago

:(

[–]sjjkjlkkjkljljll 1 point2 points ago

The game downloaded itself today, I was confused.

[–]sidd230 6 points7 points ago

Those who own 2012 get it for FREE.

[–]ItsBail 0 points1 point ago

??? I don't have it...

[–]Ididerus 0 points1 point ago

i was a bit miffed that I put about $30 into TS2012 last Steam sale, but now I'm all "yeah"!

[–]LegoMyEgo 0 points1 point ago

I got the new UI for free, but not the new routes. They called it a "Free Core technology update". I bought it last December in the xmas Steam Sale.

[–]wtfamireadingdotjpg 0 points1 point ago

Checked my games tab, sure enough I have Train Simulator 2013 now.

unzips

[–]sidd230 1 point2 points ago

ಠ_ಠ

[–]CargoCulture 0 points1 point ago

Ah, that explains it. I saw the Steam notification "Train Simulator 2013 has finished downloading, and I was all "huh?"

[–]johnholmescock 0 points1 point ago

Choo! Choo! Motherfuckers! I got 2013 for FREE and I only paid £2 for the 2012 version at the last Steam sale. This one looks more slick and user friendly.

Woohoo! Choo choo choo!

[–]sjjkjlkkjkljljll 0 points1 point ago

It was pretty sweet when that happened.

[–]yamhamdan 0 points1 point ago

And another free upgrade... :D

[–]Lampjaw 0 points1 point ago

I just want to mention that my roommate has a massive poster of this image he made with a plotting machine.

[–]turchx 1 point2 points ago

Straight from the comments!

[–]ShadousTheRaven 1 point2 points ago

They made a movie to this video game. It's called Unstoppable.

[–]Gokep 0 points1 point ago

Too many of these games now :P

[–]floraphalliphobic 0 points1 point ago

I never actually played one of these. What's the draw? Is there strategy to it, or do you just enjoy the scenery?

[–]Bloody_Conspiracies 0 points1 point ago

You get to drive trains, that's the draw.

[–]JDoorjam 0 points1 point ago

Death by choo choo!

[–]max_damage78 0 points1 point ago

Dude, what the fuck? I thought you weren't allowed to post CP on reddit?

[–]Top_Dog 0 points1 point ago

Train driver here! Fuk trains

[–]SeanNam 0 points1 point ago

This meme always gets me. Probably because of the CHOO CHOO.

[–]etter_wirkola 0 points1 point ago

I might get a Windows machine just for this. Or has anyone tried playing it on any of the windows simulation options on the Mac? Mid 2010 13" MBP here, may be too slow anyway.

[–]Lasair 0 points1 point ago

Saw the thumbnail and automatically knew the bottom line would be "motherfucker". I'm getting good at this.

[–]kmgt08 0 points1 point ago

It took me a few seconds to realize what I was looking at in the picture. Then I found it oddly hilarious. Thanks for the lulz. I like the game, I think I'll buy it.

[–]PopularParrot 0 points1 point ago

I pre-ordered it, it's downloading now. This is going to be the best game of my life.

[–]wafflelord -1 points0 points ago

Viewing this on my phone. The thumbnail looks like a flaming Sackboy head.

[–]suspiciously_calm -4 points-3 points ago

Train simulator, bus simulator, forklift simulator, tractor simulator ...

Who the fuck plays that shit?!

[–]kcdakrt 2 points3 points ago

Um... I dont know. Maybe people who are interested in those things? Or people that enjoy simulators?

[–]etter_wirkola 0 points1 point ago

A train sim was all it took for him to become suspiciously_annoyed.
