Must be FedEx. Boxes never touch each other(and get damaged) like that at UPS Worldport. In fact boxes never touch each other ever, the computerized belts automatically speed up and slow down and keep them all separated by a min amount of space the whole time they are in the facility.

Just browsed the facility quickly and it seems UPS does a lot of good stuff for college students that work at this Worldport - 75% of workers at the facility are college students who work overnight and receive 100% tuition remission.

UPS also requires that all employees spend time driving the trucks and doing actual deliveries. All managers, executives, VPs, etc. have to work a route for a minimum of 3 months before they are allowed to do whatever other job they get hired for.

I wonder if it's like this every step of the way, like: as you get promoted from asst. manager to manager, to GM, to director, etc - if you have to go out and drive, just to keep you grounded and not let you forget "where you came from", so to speak.

FedEx is Apple's preferred provider. Do you remember when people got pissy when Newegg started preferring UPS? I'm trying to find a thread from ~way back when~ for you.

DHL is actually my preferred courier. They accept signed notes to "just leave the package" and arrive earlier than FedEx or UPS in my area. I really miss Buy.com's free overnight via DHL... as much as I like Amazon Prime, Buy's fiscally irresponsible shipping charges were fantastic

I've been on a tour of the main hub. It's absolutely amazing. The area in the picture OP posted is the start of a sorting area. The packages cascade down and workers have to flip each package manually so the barcode is facing up. They then go on a system of ramps and slides with arms that push the packages to their proper places for loading on the planes.

I'm always amazed that Memphis is the SuperHub. I've flown out of the airport there many times. You'd never think its as busy commercially as it is.

It's the busiest cargo airport in the country, if not the world, I believe. Most of the cargo shipping happens after 11pm though, so as to not really disrupt passenger flights.

Gotta be FedEx. Ups Worldport never let's packages crush each other and get damaged like that. In fact they never even touch each other ever inside the facility. Ups used to do it manually like that 20 years ago.

It's a running joke in our family every time the UPS truck arrives and we see the driver sneaking away as if he hopes we don't see him as he makes his escape after delivering another mutilated box.
