          She probably is like me, who has seen so much crazy shit that it doesnt surprise/bother me. I'll never forget the clown who stood in the corner(like facing the corner, isolating himself) for 6 stops on the L train, or a really hardcore punk/metalhead who sang Louis Armstrong PERFECTLY on the N line or the homeless man on the G, who was a) singing to himself, b) Wearing a mesh t shirt (keep in mind he was at least 50) and c) pointed directly at me (I was wearing a Pink Floyd tee) screaming NO EDUCATIONS

          Crazy shit happens to me on the subway on a regular basis, but the best story I've heard comes from my girlfriend -

          You know that guy who wears the absurd costumes/feathery head-pieces/enormous boots in union square? He got onto the 1 once, clutching a giant bag. The bag bursts, of course, and coffee explodes everywhere - like one entire side of the car is a couple centimeters deep in lukewarm coffee that he had apparently been gathering from used cups.

          He then tries to clean this enormous puddle of stupidness by delicately dropping a handkerchief onto it, then sits down and starts singing lady gaga under his breath and gets off near columbia..

            I was waiting for the 1 at 14th St. at like 3-4 in the morning with two of my friends one night when I notice this guy squeezing out liquid from a rag onto the tracks. Then I noticed that the liquid was red. Then I realized it was blood and I saw it dripping down the dude's arm and onto the platform. He finishes squeezing out the rag and walks past my friends and I, and that's when I noticed the bone popping out of his arm. By the expression on his face, he looked completely unaffected by it. It was by far the weirdest thing I've ever seen on the subway.

            Possibly Wendel, a regular in Union Square who wears enormous boots, customes, feathery head pieces and is a friend of Normal Bob Smith who records a lot of video of the denizens of Union Square for some years now. He has a number of Youtube accounts because sometimes his account gets banned or all the vids get removed. Search for "normal bob smith" and "amazing strangers nyc". Fascinating stuff.

              Dude. Fucking laughed so hard at the homeless guy story. My buddy lives in Queens and I get to visit a few times a year for concerts, drinking, etc. and the only thing I truly love about nyc is riding the subway.

              My favorite hobo story happened a couple weeks ago actually. The guy was obviously messed up mentally, schizophrenic or something. I get on at World Trade heading uptown and this dude gets on a few stops later, big scraggly black dude. If you've ever seen the dude at the 5th Ave/53rd E stop yelling about "Next stop, HELL" when the doors are closing, that's him.

              Anyways he gets on and sits across from me mutter about how iPhones are nuclear bombs and that "there's an app for that"(nuclear war), the train is going to hell, your friends are enemies of the state, etc. One thing he said though was really funny and right on the money. An announcement had just come on, "This train is delayed due to train traffic ahead of us". Without missing a beat he yells out "This train is delayed due to the MTA being RETARDED. When the transit authority is RETARDED, delays happen". Me and the guy next to me could barely contain ourselves, it was so funny.
