Here's how Reddit really works, apparently.

I'm the original poster and the guy who PS'd this picture in the first place. Proof here (sort of).

Someone... "Swiss_Cheese9797" - grabbed my post almost immediately (within an hour of my posting it, according to the timestamps), reposted it to r/pics and has three times the karma and about double the comments.

His post here.

So... this guy steals my post and ends up on the FRONT PAGE. Number 22 as I type this.

No wonder this clown has 69,572 link karma and 31,440 comment karma! He basically looks for what's hot, grabs it and posts it as his own, reaping karma (and attention) in the process.

Reddit mods, are you guys stoned? Or don't you care that someone's gaming your precious system?

Why bother posting original(ish) content to Reddit in the first place?

Nobody is gaming the system, this is exactly how reddit works. You find interesting things online and post them. Reddit may have become more cannibalistic lately, but what different does it make? It's not like this is some piece or artistic work that took time and talent to create, it's two goddamn words overlaid on a sign. Who cares who posts it, and who the fuck cares about karma? They're completely made up numbers.

I'm totally on your side, but do you have to be such a karma slave? Those are made up numbers for fucks sake - can't buy anything with them and they don't give you any privileges (aside from bragging rights, but that's for attention whores).

This happens to me a lot. People have trawled my old posts, fished out pictures that already attracted high Karma, reposted and then got a bunch for themselves.

I just did a google seach by image for similar images, and it didn't find any exact match. That doesn't prove it's not retouched, but it doesn't appear to match any similar-except-the-sign image that google could find, and combined with the text and paper being nicely rippled a bit and the matting looking good, it's either a real picture (quite likely) or a very well-done Photoshop job, that didn't start with a readily available image off the web as a starting point.

edit: clearly it's fake. bane_undone posted a link to what looks like the original -- the technique I used of google search by image has worked for me sometimes before in finding the originals for photoshop jobs, but not finding something doesn't prove anything.

Did anyone who supported that "Muhammad French Magazine" post (I'm assuming thats what this is about) ever think about how just MORALLY wrong it was?

It was poking the tiger. It was just adding to the rage of the Muslims. Now it will take longer to diffuse the conflict because of that little bit of extra rage towards western civilization. It could be all the time it takes for ten more people to die, or for another country to erupt into chaos. Seriously /r/atheism has just started to disgust me after I saw that post.

/r/atheism is now a very obvious collection of everything bad that is stereotypically assumed about atheists. Making fun of religions can be fun, but it gets fucking old fast and it just offends people and makes them put a mental block to anything another atheist will tell them. This subreddit is just plain morally horrible.

What do you think you're accomplishing here? Because if its getting a few more people killed you're doing a great damn job!
