I've been snorkeling here! its awesome you can go sit in the pilots seat and everything. Tons of fish around i will try to find some family photos from there and upload here.

An organization named SPECTRE had an inside man who hijacked it and landed it in the shallow waters off Nassau. They then retrieved the two nuclear warheads from its bomb bay and held the world ransom. The event was made into a documentary named Thunderball.

I'm not positive, but I think it was probably a drug running plane. There's quite a few wrecks like this in the Caribbean.

It is. I think the documentary Cocaine Cowboys talks about this. It was a plane belonging to Carlos Lehder, who was the basis of the character Diego Delgado in the movie Blow.

Google "Norman's Cay" to find out more information about the island he basically took over and ran drugs out of for several years.

The water is deeper there due to the coral not growing as high.

I wonder if the coral doesn't grow there because it's shaded by the plane or if there is some sort of chemical reaction with the metal it's made of. The circle doesn't seem to be affected by the wings at all - only the body of the plane.

This photo has it tagged as a C46.

It looks more like a C46 to me.
