Where I live in Canada its 90% crown Vic's. Theyre easy to spot with the big amber turn signals placed narrow against the grill. Pretty much all fords do this. I always look out when I see ambers close together.

I like to slow down, hit the brakes lightly and watch their front plate light up. Usually cops have a different color plate than civilians.

Usually in daylight when I'm driving I just look for the most aggressive looking fronts and if they have that bumper ram. I usually slow down for all beefy looking motorcycles, which I had to today, it was a cop. I usually also slow down for motorcycles at night as well. I'm not really into speeding overall at night because I don't have as many advantages from vision then I would have just blending in (cops seeing me or standing out).

Here is a tip specifically for the Crown vic which is the most common. Look at the yellow turning signal. Its obvious at night. Crown vics have what look like a bunch of large LED's in the yellow turning signal part.

This is the best pic I could find. The yellow turning signal part looks like its composed of a bunch of leds vs. a solid light like the main headlight. Most other cars that look like crown vic headlights do not have the led looking turning signal.

are you kidding me? at night it's just a bright light, you can't make out the shape if it's dark out - which it is, because it's night, this is just dumb.

more useful would be a guide of ways to spot an unmarked as opposed to a normal civillian Crown Vic, Charger, Impala etc. (extra antennas, lights, etc.)

but sometimes cops just drive fucked up weird undercover cars, my buddy was pulled over by a Nissan Quest on the highway the other day and I'll be damned if I've ever assumed one of those to be a cop, ever. You just never know really

If you're close enough to the car to recognize the headlights, then you're close enough to recognize the ram on the front, and the light bar on the top. This is close to the dumbest picture ever posted on here.

I can usually tell by the light on top or the headlights for some reason I have a great sense when there's a cop behind me high or not.Usually the unmarked police cars are easy to spot because of the lights at the top of the windshield even at night you can see them.A great piece of advice someone gave me was that all police cars are American made.To this day I have yet to see the police car that defies this rule(besides campus pd and private security guards).

Also there's a part of NJ Transit called Access Link that transports disabled people. They use white Crown Vics, and not just any white Crown Vic but decommissioned Police Interceptors, still have the badge even. I cannot even tell you how many times I saw one of those, nearly shit myself, and then saw the "Access Link" logo on the side.

Edit: Just realized, those poor elderly/disabled passengers must get flipped off all the time because of this and never understand why.

I found an easy-ish way to memorize them that works for me. Imagine each set of lights as eyes, and think about what the face that you feel corresponds to it looks like. Memorizing the faces is easier.[7]
