The worrying thing is that this is actually East London.

[–]LinuxMageFenian Liberal Democrat 9 points10 points ago

Why did I just read this in Paul Mertons voice, and it made me think that when this comes up on HIGNFY, Paul Merton will say exactly this?

[–]devolute 8 points9 points ago

'cos, like Paul Merton I'm occasionally mildly amusing but after a while it's apparent the that I'm just a bit of a smug twat, full of completely obvious jokes.

Check my profile, yo.

[–]Goddamlitre-o-cola -1 points0 points ago

Talking of smug twat ... did you see any of his travel documentaries on Five?

[–]devolute 0 points1 point ago

No. Did he sniff his own farts?

[–]Goddamlitre-o-cola 1 point2 points ago

Pretty much sums it up. He went to China, India and Europe (Germany, Italy, France, Spain) with his tedious surrealist humour. When language/cultural differences prevented people from understanding what the hell he was on about, he'd loudly trump, bend over and take a whiff

[–]twogunsalute 0 points1 point ago

Remember when Paul Merton was funny? Room 101 was good stuff.

Then again I was in school so he has probably always been a bit crap.

Is this one of those cargo cults? Because I know theres one that worships Prince Philip

[–]Chive 21 points22 points ago

I didn't realise UKIP was a cargo cult.

[–]G_Morgan 4 points5 points ago

Pretty much. They know that moaning about something called Europe will make them popular. However they have no idea what Europe is and why people dislike it. Just all religious chants to them.

[–]Sizergh 23 points24 points ago

The prince is overjoyed at getting to pilot his very own native helicopter.

[–]HotBeefTrauma[!] 22 points23 points ago

Can we get a Prince Philip reaction quote for this?

"only use for a fuzzy wuzzy"

"Chop chop"

"Why did we give up our Empire again?"

this would just be a standard african goodwill visit for him.

If a bunch of people say to you "please would you let us carry you on this chair" and you said no it might make a bit of a scene so I can see how this might happen.

[–]SarahC 2 points3 points ago

Ewoks and C3PO?

[–]Angstweevilpragmatic lefty 10 points11 points ago

The combination of headline and photo made me chuckle out loud. Well done, sir (or madam).

Actually is it shopped? There's something rather odd going on around is left foot that makes me wonder if the chair was originally somewhere else.

nothing at all now, cheers.

[–]Morethanonehill 0 points1 point ago

That's the guy on the middle of the right hand side's hair.

[–]live_wire_ 1 point2 points ago

I... Wow!

I think I'm genuinely impressed.

[–]anvilheadache 7 points8 points ago

Ha, little does he realise, he's heading for the pot.

[–]Chive 5 points6 points ago

I thought pot was more Harry's sort of thing.

Highest quality gif I've ever seen!

[–]CA3080Bleeding Heart Liberal 3 points4 points ago

Love a bit of casual racism in the evening

(Near enough the whole cannibalism thing is racist victorian mudslinging like)

[–]davoust 3 points4 points ago

The facial expressions of the people in this photo really says it all.

[–]da__ 3 points4 points ago

Aw come on, the guy's just stressed out and needs a break. What would you do to chill out if your wife's boobs have travelled the world quicker than she did?

care to define politics?

[–]Manic_Minergood grief -3 points-2 points ago

Politics: The activities associated with the governance of a country or area.

r/ukpolitics is not supposed to be about the posting of images in order to generate a bunch of tired old jokes. This is the third or fourth time this image or others like it have been posted now and they're not getting any funnier.

[–]stubbleLibertarian Lefty 0 points1 point ago

I didn't find it funny in the least. I actually found it very awkward.

As we live in a monarchy, a photo of the second in line to the throne being carried in a manner that can only be described as demeaning to his porters seems to be very applicable to this forum.

The number of issues it raises about class and race alone are very good reasons for it to be here.

Come off it. If it was that sensitive to the islanders they wouldn't have done it. The only people making a big deal out of it are British lefties.

[–]stubbleLibertarian Lefty 0 points1 point ago

waves yes hello...

Is that one of those 47% comments?

[–]Manic_Minergood grief 0 points1 point ago

Not really since you pretty much admit that it's only being used as convenient political ammunition.

[–]stubbleLibertarian Lefty 0 points1 point ago

Can't win either way then...

So as far as your concerned there's nothing in that photo that harks back to any old colonial values? And even if there were you would simply not see it as either relevant or important or even ask the question why is this man even in my newspapers because questions like that are just so many lefty obsessions?

Personally I find it fascinating to see shots like this anywhere, never mind in the UK in the 21st Century. What message does it convey to its viewers? What is it the PR drive to show the future king and his wife as they do their privileged thing around the world while the rest of us wonder if our economy is going to tank..?

[–]Manic_Minergood grief 0 points1 point ago

So as far as your concerned there's nothing in that photo that harks back to any old colonial values?

Not really. The Polynesian islanders had a caste system and royalty long before Europeans ever arrived. As Commonwealth nations, the British royalty are their heads of state and they are honouring them as such.

Personally I find it fascinating to see shots like this anywhere, never mind in the UK in the 21st Century.

So do I - from an anthropological and cultural point of view, because it's interesting. I don't need to manufacture faux outrage on the islanders behalf because I'm sure that if they felt that strongly about it, then they wouldnt have done it.

[–]stubbleLibertarian Lefty 0 points1 point ago

So, anthropology ok, cultural ok, political not ok...? not sure how you draw a line between those really..

I don't for a single second buy into the idea that this was any kind of spontaneous action on the part of the islanders but a highly contrived one, much like the flag waving school kids who miraculously appear whenever a royal event takes place, or the flag burning zealots appear whenever marshalled by their leaders into making some sort of show.

[–]apple_kicks -1 points0 points ago

breast really can distract us from anything

[–]stubbleLibertarian Lefty -3 points-2 points ago

I think what gets me right now is the unprecedented amount of coverage this particular holiday is receiving. Seems to be a bit of a concerted PR effort to keep tickling the synapses of the country's monarchists now that the jubilee is over.

I can only imagine what the Mail on Sunday's magazine will run with this week...

[–]Lucifa42 0 points1 point ago

I'd start by invading France, then Italy, Ireland, Sweden and Denmark I think.
