picture of a 747 carrying the Space Shuttle Endeavour taken from the passenger window of a C9 Pathfinder (imgur.com)

im no expert but im pretty sure the wing vortex from the 747+shuttle would be way to violent to get that close to in pretty much any other aircraft. Not to mention the wake turbulance behind a 747 is over a mile long. given they are next to it.....but im still guna go ahead and call photoshop :P although I would be happy to be proven wrong :)

Then how do huge planes refuel in midair?
[–]unfortunateleader 1 point2 points3 points 8 hours ago
They fly below the turbulence.
[–]bb188 0 points1 point2 points 7 hours ago
What are your qualifications to say this?
[–]unfortunateleader 0 points1 point2 points 7 hours ago
It's common sense, also the military uses an assortment of tankers, one of them being the KC130 which uses props and not jet engines, so their isn't as much turbulence.
Are you a pilot?
No I am not, I have a few friends in the Canadian airforce that are, though.
Well I am, and I'm just politely stating that you are misinformed :) There will be much less wake turbulence that far off the side of an aircraft such as in the OP's pic than there will be directly behind and underneath the aircraft. Also, large planes like this are less susceptible to the effects of turbulence.
oh I'm aware of that, I'm not saying that it isn't possible to fly that close to another plane of that size, but I still think that the picture is photoshopped. If either plane were to hit turbulence there is no way they could recover quickly and not cause an accident, where as with fighters in formation with much more responsive controls that isn't an issue.
You must be trolling me. They are not even flying that close.

how is this a "wtf"?

10 bucks says this is shooped. Air control would intervene if they came even a mile close to each other.
[–]CaitDoyleSucks 1 point2 points3 points 18 hours ago
aren't those plays flying awfully close to one another?
