I am going to have to be 'that girl' who mentions the whole correlation doesn't imply causation thing...

[–]rhymes_with_truck 4 points5 points ago

Particularly considering how far the U.S. falls from that curve. We're just a statistical outlier, now! Messing up the R2 since (whatever year).

[–]aimeecat 4 points5 points ago

That would actually make a pretty cool T-shirt...

"Messing up the R2 since 1976"

:)

Also, where did he pull that model out of...?

y = A*(1-B/x) "which fits best for A=101 and B=9260"

...in other words, as the GDP approaches infinity, belief in evolution reaches 101%.

(and even better, for GDP below said 9260, belief in evolution is negative.)

Nice.

Exactly. Plus, USA comes second in National Wealth. 40% of the populace accepts the theory of evolution, and we're still second only to Norway? How does that prove anything?

EDIT: damn homophones

^populace ;-)

Fuck. This is what I get for trying to say something after taking a shit ton of cold medicine. I'll fix it. Thanks.

Also, doesn't income, laying on the x-axis, imply that it is the independent variable, meaning that "as income increases people change their belief system to incorporate evolution" is a more apt conclusion, or "increased income appears to increase belief in evolution"?

That's some Chicken Soup for the Laboratory Assistant's soul...

[–]massoutput 3 points4 points ago

This may explain why the US might be sliding to the left.

[–]WhoMouse 2 points3 points ago

How come the category "the Americas" (red dot) only has the US? What happened to the rest of the Americas?

[–]ellipsisca 2 points3 points ago

Every time this circle jerks around out come the American apologists to state equivocally... "correlation doesn't imply causation" Pthhh..! If you keep saying it long enough people might start believing it... Hmm.. that sounds familiar.

Edit: in lieu of your pithy replies allow me to preempt you with the following... USA! USA! USA! :)

the American apologists to state equivocally... "correlation doesn't imply causation"

As the only person here who made that comment I would just like to point out that I am not American :)

wut? 50% in austria don't believe in evolution?? Until now i haven't found a single one who doesn't

[–]i_drah_zua 0 points1 point ago

Me neither.
Even the more devout christians I know, few as they may be, know that evolution is true.

[–]Jorgeen 0 points1 point ago

Yaayyy Estonia, sort of.
