I'm torn on this. On the one hand, I'm a relative Reddit newbie - just over a year here. And yes, I haven't seen a lot of stuff that people call out as reposts.

On the other hand, I've only been here a year, and I do see things reposted with alarming frequency - sometimes separated only by a few days.

So I think the question is, when does a repost become acceptable? How much time must elapse between an original post and a repost? Should we measure according to the last time something was reposted (1 day in this case), or according to the last time anyone anyone actually saw it (6 months in this case)?

And the most interesting and thought-provoking questions: if people keep upvoting reposts to the frontpage, is there anything we can do to stop it, and should we really be trying to hush the vox populi?

As I type this it's at 366 points [edit: over 900], yet over the past month it hasn't exceeded 34 points. Is it the time of day it was posted, the title, or some combination of both?

Here's a Reddit idea: some kind of Karma feature built into the link, so it could tell you how many times the picture was reposted and how long it's been since the last time. Something in a small font that just said [20, 1] for 20 total reposts & the most recent was 1 day ago.

And right there you've hit on the single biggest question surrounding Reddit - what makes a post hit the frontpage when the exact same post a day or two earlier didn't even make it out of /r/new? Figure that question out and you'll stand to benefit greatly.

Brilliant idea. Better for RES than for Reddit itself though, I think, since it would put a lot of strain to handle it server-side. You should suggest this to the RES team!
