Deleting /r/aww doesnt cut it. They're all over r/funny and r/pics. I once posted a suggestion for the admins to create a label or filter similar to nsfw which could be applied to cat photos. People bombarded me with hatred. "You must be an awful person. How do you sleep at night with such a dark heart".

My cats wait for me by the door every single day. And when I come home they follow me around and just sit by my side when I do other shit. One of them comes to sleep in my bed between me and my girlfriend every single night, she's actually doing it right now. I was having a vacation this summer and apparently the cats had been acting strange and running around the apartment during the nights. When I came home they didn't lose sight of me for days. Almost constantly purring.

That is not contempt nor is it selfishness. It is affection, much like what dogs show, just in another way and not towards as many people .

You have the right to not like cats, but I must say, you have no idea what kind of creatures they are.

Cats domesticated themselves by eating the vermin that attacked our food stores. Dogs ate the garbage and feces. Cats kept the rats out of your grain. Modern dogs are loyal because they are helpless creatures who exist on our scraps. Cats share society with people because they benefit from us, and we benefit from them. What is the symbiotic relationship humans have with dogs?

Everywhere you find agriculture and collections of people, you find cats. They are a fundamental part of society.

Modern theories are that Dogs helped early humans with hunting and spent other times guarding our camps. This freed up responsibilities and some theorize this gave us the time to partake other intellectual endeavours.

You know, you could take that whole speech about cats and replace it with ferrets and still be right.

The herding of cattle and sheep doesn't appear to be on the list of cats' talents and I'd venture to say that was a pretty important part of people's lives for quite some time. We benefit from them, they benefit from us.

A more modern view would be regarded as helper animals, home and family protection, vermin protection (you ever own chickens? we use two shelter mutts as fox and vermin protection and they are spectacular. Our cats suck at that job.)

Anywhere you find agriculture you find dogs. Find me a farm with no dogs and I'll remind you that it's a cotton farm and rats don't eat cotton, duh.

Just kidding, you should read up on dogs and society/agriculture. Have this video for assistance in the beginnings of your journey in education: DOGS!!!!

cat's are like roommates. If you're nice to them, they're nice to you. But they don't want to be fucked with all the time like dogs do. It's hard for dog owner's to get used to cats, because they're used to an animal that wants affection every second of the day.

Personally, I like em both. Although I only like dogs that are quiet and appreciate peace

That is not even remotely accurate. Cats are actually very affectionate animals and this is no less genuine than the love dogs give you. The misconception that cats are not loving comes from the fact that when cats are hit by their owners they become antisocial. People will try to punish their cat for doing something wrong and this literally never works because the cat does not attach its actions to the punishment.

 

So this has led to a glorious misconception that they are not loving. They become distrustful of humans from being hit or even yelled at. If you want to teach a cat to stop doing something you need to get a squirt bottle and make sure the cat does not see you actually spraying it. Cats are loving almost all of the time, and the majority that are not are made that way by their own owners.

I filter "cat", "cats", "dog", "dogs", "pet" and "pets" in RES. I wouldn't have seen this post if I wasn't on my phone.

Unfortunately, those people who I try to het rid of rarely use those words. It's always the equally annoying "she does dis erry day hihihi" or "so dis just happund" or "so I wus just bla bla bla yadida when ..."

I try to ignore it, but reddit has created quite a hate towards pets and certain words in me. Although I like animals in general.

Cats aren't particularly common on Reddit (not counting those few subreddits specifically for cats or pets) but the Internet in general is supposed to love cats. It's one of those things you hear a lot about but never really see. It probably was a thing years ago, but now it's faded into more of a joke than anything else.

      I was forever a dog person but warmed up to cats and now have two, and every day I've had them I've realized how misinformed and misguided every single general perception about cats is. I sometimes hope people just open their eyes.

      Either way, I don't see any reason to "hate" an entire species

      this seems to have sparked a "dogs vs cats" debate. really it should come down to what is better for your lifestyle. dogs are great but they need space and generally more upkeep than cats. cats are not always as affectionate as dogs and need time on their own. if you want a pet to snuggle with during a movie and have time for them dogs are great. but cats can be snuggly to and often do better during the day alone.

      people need to take into account what they need from their pet and what their pet will need from them more before buying the cute puppy/kitten rather than choosing a pet because of a bias.

      Cats are fine. But they are not selective, they are fickle. Their social structure is less compatible to that of humans (dogs are somewhat more compatible). Also, large fraction of cats/people/whatever are (unfortunately) rather dumb. If they love you, good; if they don't, jolly well. It has little to do with deserving.

Basically /r/aww is a circlejerk where anyone and everyone just posts a pic of their pet and they all get voted up so they cover pages 1-6, probably 75% of posts... unless you unsub then you'll never see them and you can live your life without pics of fucking animals.

      I was always a dog person, but inherited a couple of (very sweet, very old) cats. Whenever anyone asks if I have pets, " Yeah, I have cats." They always ask me "How many?" ,with an odd expression. This gif shows how I feel when I reply, "Oh, 37, or so"

      You do realize Reddit would know you were the same person and the downvote would essentially do nothing. Why do you think reddit adds downvotes? It is to stop people from downvoting on multiple accounts on the same computer which would really be a problem with bots. So they made a system that pretty much makes your downvote irrelevant.

        I haven't seen a cat related post on FP for months until this popped up thanks to r/funny.

        Spend some time finding all the cat thread subreddits and unsubscribe. I did it. Never been happier, sex life is great and eyes don't bleed with rage while browsing Reddit.
