Ability to reciprocate is the main difference I'd say. If the victim can expect to extract revenge in good humor and not expect angry retribution.

If you can take what you dish and the victim can likewise, then it's all in good fun.

moving chair or fall through chair pranks are extremely dangerous. It doesn't seem like it could really hurt someone but when someone comes full force down onto a chair and instead hits the ground, it can severely fuck up their tailbone or spine.

when my mom was 11, she walked into her sunday school class and when she was about to sit down, the biotch next to her pulled her chair out from under her. My mom broke her tailbone and has had problems sitting her whole life because of it. I have never found these kind of jokes funny knowing the unintentional damage that they can do.
