          person below me is probably right, something to do with camouflage. no one really knows, but some hypothesize that white lions might just be genetically inferior, and i guess animals can detect that so they see white lions as "sick" and either abandon or kill them.

          Animals cannot detect genetic inferiority. More likely, it's just that lion cubs are normally threatened by many thing (one of which is non-father males) and white cubs have a harder time blending in. It is possible that, since the white color is so rare, the adults think something's wrong with the cub and kill it specifically because of the color, but I highly doubt it.

          Serious question. I remember seeing somewhere that house cats drink by like skimming their tongue flat over the surface of the water, and dogs sort of "scoop" the water up. Do big cats like lions do the dog method? It seems like they are really plowing through the water in this picture, something a housecat doesn't do.

          The way a cat drinks is very interesting! Essentially what they do is "poke" the water with their tongue tips and rapidly retract it. The result is a liquid column which is formed, because water molecules tend to stick together, which the cat consumes part of when the cat closes it mouth. Big cats employ the same bio-mechanic maneuver as their domestic cousins, but because of their larger tongues it makes it seem like they're scooping the water as a dog would.
