"Hold on, the other guy's a frog! Someone's spiked my drink!"

[–]kingassburger 125 points126 points ago

Yea, if you're seeing Kermit, I don't think you're sober.

[–]Breathing_Balls 52 points53 points ago

And if you are seeing a fist up his ass, then you're at the right party.

[–]thebusishalfempty 27 points28 points ago

R.I.P. John Lennon

[–]MagentaVitus 3 points4 points ago

Am I missing something?

[–]oddurs 26 points27 points ago

Yes. The joke.

[–]MagentaVitus 4 points5 points ago

I was hoping someone could explain it to me. I feel very left out.

[–]bmitrano825 12 points13 points ago

The man in the picture is Jim Henson, the creator of the muppets. thebusishalfempty was joking about how similar he looks to John Lennon in that picture.

[–]efox 198 points199 points ago

In case you haven't seen the hilarious "I'm Batman" 4chan thread with Kermit and Christian Bale, now's a good time to check it out.

[–]The_True_Zecret 49 points50 points ago

Sees Christian Bale/Kermit hit front page, posts the overposted Batman/Kermit thread as a comment instead of a post. Goodjob! thumbs up

[–]StreetMailbox 29 points30 points ago

Maybe comment and link karma should be combined to encourage threads full of relevant pictures, anecdotes, and add-ons rather than splintering into dozens of new posts.

[–]MrDent 0 points1 point ago

ಠ_ಠ

[–]MLRSguy 2 points3 points ago

I'm sorry, I either just woke up and I'm not thinking straight or I'm an idiot, but how would combining the two fix anything? Reddiquette is rarely followed, and this guy would've just seen a boost to his karma even though he posted something that's been seen many a time before.

[–]StreetMailbox 7 points8 points ago

It would:

encourage threads full of relevant pictures, anecdotes, and add-ons rather than splintering into dozens of new posts...

...because you would get the same karma from commenting as you would from making a new post.

[–]MLRSguy 4 points5 points ago

I wish you could've just seen my brain click. Less dumb posts cause all the shit would be in the comments. Got it.

[–]okbutwat 7 points8 points ago

This actually didn't originate on 4chan.

ONTD's claims to fame: Kermit Bale and that time a bunch of (possibly underage) girls had a mass cyber orgy with Eli Roth.

[–]qiba 3 points4 points ago

You forgot the grand discovery that Jamie Lynn Spears was preggers.

And the embarrassing sex emails from that guy from LFO. Yikes.

[–]okbutwat 2 points3 points ago

That LFO scandal is vintage ONTD ijaf.

tbh idgaf about celebrities so it's like why am I there. Any time there's like a "guess whose dick this is" or something post I remember that I still love ONTD. LJ has been flopping for me lately though so it makes it almost not worth going to anymore. I miss the pre-Russian days.

[–]qiba 0 points1 point ago

Meh, the Russian thing doesn't bother me; I feel like I hardly ever see it. The stanning is more annoying. But my main complaint is the lack of an upvote/downvote system... Reddit has spoiled me.

[–]Jeroknite 0 points1 point ago

I didn't know the Brits had their own Jesse Eisenberg and Elijah Wood.

[–]Generotti21 35 points36 points ago

those two are definitely not sober

[–]Squalor- 27 points28 points ago

OP is the one at the party who isn't drunk, but he's high, and he looks around and sees another high person, and they just nod at each other for the rest of the night while the drunk people are drunkenly hooking up.

[–]Mongoose42 21 points22 points ago

Meanwhile, the one person not high or drunk notices the high guy casually nodding at a coat-rack and wondering just what is going on there.

[–]YonatoN 0 points1 point ago

sober, but not smober...

[–]JustLivinMyLife1 7 points8 points ago

"It's not easy, being clean"

[–]Blonde_Keasbey 10 points11 points ago

I don't drink or smoke either! When I went to parties it was to break things, steal stuff, and eat all the food.

[–]Bot02 19 points20 points ago

I knew you sober people were a shifty lot.

[–]LeftLampSide 5 points6 points ago

I hope you get a paper cut.

[–]eagerpegasus 0 points1 point ago

[–]PlumRugofDoom 6 points7 points ago

[–]FrisianDude 6 points7 points ago

ain't got nothing on Kermit.

[–]VesperGloaming 1 point2 points ago

But he always looks like Jesus. I can't fap to 3/4 of his movies since he looks like Our Lord and Savior or he's under 18.

[–]SoAssassin 2 points3 points ago

[–]captainfranklen 3 points4 points ago

If the only other sober person at a party is Kermit the Frog, you may not be sober.

[–]jklemsen[S] 31 points32 points ago

[–]creepyeyes -1 points0 points ago

I can sort of identify with it. I don't drink, but frequently go to parties with a lot of drinking. Problem is I usually the only sober one.

[–]beanielove 7 points8 points ago

That's me! I don't drink, so I get it.

[–]CosmicBard 0 points1 point ago

Why would you be sober at a party?

Who doesn't like a good solid anxiolytic? Nobody, that's who. Anybody who denies liking euphoria isn't worth your time.

[–]FlutterShy- 1 point2 points ago

I always liked being high and/or drunk but I've found that I hate myself significantly less if I stay sober. The temporary euphoria is fantastic. Waking up at 4PM because you couldn't sleep until the drugs wore off is not. My life is much more fulfilling without most of my money and time going toward whatever drugs I can get my hands on.

[–]austinjaxson 1 point2 points ago

Why so soberous?

[–]stillinlovewitredead 11 points12 points ago

the real question is... why

[–]LtCthulhu 39 points40 points ago

Designated driver?

[–]Tearill 66 points67 points ago

Some of us dont drink

[–]mattwalsh25 40 points41 points ago

You nearly had me there for a second.

[–]GeneralAverage 1 point2 points ago

I can't drink. I have a hiatal hernia and drinking alcohol could seriously fuck my shit up. It really sucks :(

[–]Real-Life-Reddit -1 points0 points ago

smoke weed?

[–]ForcedToJoin 2 points3 points ago

Reeeaaaally doesn't have the same effect.

Having said that, being high at parties sure is better then being at them sober.

[–]new-socks 7 points8 points ago

Then what do you do for fun?

[–]Aqualung90 32 points33 points ago

Tell other people about how they don't drink.

[–]due_the_drew 8 points9 points ago

Some people know how to have fun without being intoxicated.

[–]new-socks 19 points20 points ago

So whaddaya think you're better than me?!

[–]due_the_drew 11 points12 points ago

Instead of drinking at parties, I like to pull out my reading glasses and thumb through the dictionary. Not only do I get a nice burst of emotional stimulation, I also increase my vocabulary while having the time of my life. Have your drink you filthy heathen.

[–]tyro17 3 points4 points ago

Why the actual fuck are you being downvoted?

[–]SoberAsshole 3 points4 points ago

Because "What do you do for fun?" is honestly how many people on Reddit seem to feel about not drinking. The alcohol industry has been incredibly successful at brainwashing people with their marketing. It honestly blows my mind. We see all these terrible fucking commercials about booze "getting the party started," which is just an absolutely fucking ridiculous concept, but then a hell of a lot of people actively buy into it.

Seriously, though. If the people at a party are too inhibited to be any kind of fun without booze, everyone needs to stop hanging around people that are so fucking boring.

EDIT: "start" was supposed to be "stop" EDIT: I make a lot of typos.

[–]TwEE-N-Toast 5 points6 points ago

" The alcohol industry has been incredibly successful at brainwashing people with their marketing." You know drinking and drinking "culture" has been around a lot longer these commercials you're whining about right?

[–]Masklin 1 point2 points ago

What's your point? Tradition for the sake of tradition is not rational.

[–]SoberAsshole 0 points1 point ago

Marketing has been around probably for about as long as the culture has. There was a conversation recently on Reddit about how famous Greek gladiators were featured in promotions way back when. Plus, alcohol used to be something of a necessity. Modern water purification methods didn't always exist, and alcohol was one of the ways to ensure you wouldn't die from drinking the water. It probably didn't start out as "We don't need to drink this, but let's drink this to have fun." It started out as a necessity, but the companies have been actively working to make associations which keep it "necessary." Just like any industry, really. It's just that people buy into the alcohol spiel en mass, and most people don't even seem to understand that's what they're doing.

Besides which, something which was once a dumb association and is still a dumb association doesn't get a pass just because it's been a dumb association for a long time.

[–]Underdog111 0 points1 point ago

However that is how drinking started out. We've been drinking since we found out what alcohol was. As in, dawn of humanity. Back then they didn't use it to purify water, they had no idea what purification was, they drank because it made them feel good. This stayed in our culture, and eventually they found other uses for alcohol like water purification. Someone can drink or not, it's no big deal either way, unless they have a problem.

[–]tyro17 0 points1 point ago

I upvoted you because that's a valid reason I hadn't thought of.

Maybe it's because I didn't start drinking until college, and knew how to have fun with people in high school, but it blows my mind that "What do you do for fun?" could be a serious question.

[–]starfawkes 0 points1 point ago

The ridiculous holier than thou attitude.

We're not downvoting him for not drinking, we're downvoting him for judging those of us that do.

[–]tyro17 8 points9 points ago

It seems as if he's simply responding calmly to a very annoying question... The "What do you do for fun?" Is clearly judgment in itself, as it is obviously sarcastic.

[–]starfawkes -4 points-3 points ago

What do you do for fun is obviously a joke. No one believes that you can't have fun without drinking.

But that's exactly what this guy is implying. That we need to drink to have fun and he's better than us because he doesn't.

[–]azulhombre 2 points3 points ago

As far as I'm concerned, "Some people know how to have fun without being intoxicated" is obviously a joke.

[–]starfawkes -2 points-1 points ago

Fair enough. But I've heard that exact phrase way too many times, and whether or not he's one of them there are a lot of people that think not drinking makes them better people.

[–]Masklin 1 point2 points ago

You'd be surprised bro. I know of lots of people who just can't party without alcohol.

In fact, the majority of Swedes can't imagine parties without alcohol (ab)use.

[–]I_Hate_Reddit_ 0 points1 point ago

I have fun both while I'm drunk and while I'm sober

[–]iforgotmypen -1 points0 points ago

Right..."fun"

[–]creepyeyes 1 point2 points ago

I'm right there with you, brother.

[–]DarkSideMoon -1 points0 points ago

I have a flight every week at 1:30 pm on saturdays, which means I have to stop drinking at 1:30am and sometimes am totally sober by the time I leave. Feels bad man.

[–]willscy -3 points-2 points ago

Cheap beer is nasty.

[–]CarolineTurpentine 4 points5 points ago

So bring something you like to drink! I`ve only ever been to a few parties where the hosts supplied the alcohol.

[–]ZapActions-dower 2 points3 points ago

I personally don't like any beer. So far, at least. Cheap beer is even worse than "pretty good" beer.

[–]szchm 7 points8 points ago

You just haven't tried the right beers yet! Try [insert any well-known microbrew here].

There. Now that I've parodied the comment, nobody can make it for real.

[–]Horseballs 1 point2 points ago

But seriously, how can somebody say they just "don't like any beer?" A stout is totally different flavor wise to an IPA which is totally different that a dubbel which is totally different than a lambic, all of which are totally different than what a cheap adjunct lager (Bud, miller, etc) taste like - and what many people seem to think is what all beer tastes like.

I'm of the opinion that if somebody likes any of many different flavors of food, then there is more than likely a style of beer that they'd enjoy.

[–]Molestinyocookies 2 points3 points ago

Not all alcoholic drinks are beer. Just drink one of those girly drinks that are basically soda that gets you drunk.

[–]ZapActions-dower 3 points4 points ago

I've tried whiskey scratch that, it was bourbon, tequila, and wine as well. All of them are much more tolerable than beer.

[–]Molestinyocookies 0 points1 point ago

Try martini sometime. With just lemon in it. Personal favourite.

[–]ZapActions-dower 0 points1 point ago

Vodka or gin?

I really like learning things, even if they have no practical use for me and especially if it is something simple. So I've acquired a whole lot of knowledge about certain drinks that I've never tried. Like the proper recipe for a martini, or the differences between types of whiskey.

[–]Molestinyocookies 0 points1 point ago

Nono, just martini. There's the vermouth brand martini, and there's the mix named after it, which is also a martini.

Usually the mix is 1 part martini, 2 parts gin, with an olive. Martini by itself is not usually taken with an olive, but with a slice of lemon. That's the way they're made where I live, anyway.

[–]ZapActions-dower 0 points1 point ago

I just meant that many people substitute vodka for the gin and wanted to know which you recommend. James Bond in particular famously drinks a vodka martini shaken, not stirred.

[–]Molestinyocookies 0 points1 point ago

Ah, right. I prefer neither. Martini straight up with lemon is better, I think.

But if I had to make a choice, then Bond is right.

[–]ncocca 0 points1 point ago

That actually makes sense. Cheap beer is often said to taste like water, it lacks flavor. A good beer usually has a stronger flavor.

[–]scamps1 -1 points0 points ago

So drink something else?

[–]renaissance-man -2 points-1 points ago

If you're sober it's much easier to get laid. To drunk chics, you seem like the most intelligent and charming man in the world.

[–]inferno10 -3 points-2 points ago

He's a hipster drunk. He got trashed before everyone joined in.

You're presenting it as if there's no middle ground between having to go and drink at a party or not socializing at all.

I've had drinks but I've never been buzzed or drunk. I don't like the idea of being intoxicated. And since I know that most college parties include intoxication, I just don't go. But if I want to socialize, I'm still able to call up buddies and hang out.

You shouldn't be forced to do something you don't want to do because you're afraid of feeling out of place or being ostracized. There are always alternatives. And in the end, I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything or that I'm an outcast. I just know what I enjoy doing, and I do it. I still have plenty of friends (including partiers) and I still get plenty of social interaction. So yeah.

Point is, don't feel like you have to drink to be accepted.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]azulhombre -1 points0 points ago

I've gone to countless parties since my junior year in high school and never had a sip of alcohol. Not for any negative reasons, really, but I don't like the taste of alcohol, it takes a lot to get me drunk, and someone needs to look out for everyone. At every party I've been to, there has been a fight that I've had to break up, a sick person I've needed to take care of, or a set of keys I've needed to take away.

People don't give me any flack for not drinking, either. I've always been put in a very positive light by hosts of the parties, with them introducing me and saying "This is azulhombre, he's going to make sure none of you wreck your shit tonight."

People who look at a sober person and think less of them because they aren't drunk are just as bad as people trying to MAKE them drink at a party when they don't want to. I don't want to drink, I don't like it, I don't need to. I don't think any less of people that do choose to drink at parties and never will.

Also, the only party that "revolves around drinking" that I could think of is if you went to a party where someone is celebrating their new beer that they just brewed. In that instance, I'd say it might be customary to take a sip and let them know what you think, but everything else is just a large social gathering where there happens to be alcohol. If you and your friends care more about getting together for the alcohol than each other's company, that seems like a problem.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]ableom 0 points1 point ago

But I've gone to countless parties and my exception to the rule must be the norm.

[–]TheWorkingDead112 2 points3 points ago

[–]Sepulchural 0 points1 point ago

The sarcasm is strong in this one ;o). I don't "been sober at a party" by design. It is funny how you actually do run into that sort of expression (OPs gif) when sober meets sober, it's a sort of "okay, so everyone is being silly" look. It's all good, I like being around happy people, I wouldn't play in a rock band if I didn't.

[–]Sportyboard 1 point2 points ago
